Yeah, I'd prefer not to be there.

This is exactly the type of passive-aggressive bullshit that made people leave the site when Neo Art was here.

If someone objects to being quoted in your signature, you should remove it from your signature. That said, quoting people in signatures doesn't require prior permission.
Jacabia is off-line at the moment. Give him some time to come back and deal with Viritica's request.

Jocabia wrote:I was driving across the state of Florida, but he is correct that he asked me directly in the thread when I told him I thought it was quotable and I declined. I don't see the problem with the quote given that he is still defending what he said in total. However, if that's the rules, that's the rules.
I don't know if JJ Place is still around, but I can't imagine he likes me using his admission to link back to the gun control discussion either. Do I need to remove that as well or does he have to complain that someone quoted him saying what he believes as well?

MODSTUFF: Mods will act on anything in sigs that's flaming, trolling, advertising, obscenity, or something that would cause legal trouble for the site, but I don't know of any hard-and-fast rule against simply quoting other players accurately. If a disagreement about sigs becomes the sort of issue that derails topics, it's the derailment we tend to deal with, not the sig. There are remedies available to Viritica, such as putting Jocabia on ignore (Foe option) to avoid seeing any of his posts, or using board settings to not to see anyone's sigs at all ( User Control Panel --> Board Preferences --> Edit Display Options --> Display Signatures).
Personal comment: In the world of "gotcha!" politics, it seems to be accepted that if someone says something stupid, or puts their case awkwardly, or makes a comment that by itself is unremarkable but can nevertheless be presented as ridiculous, that statement is fair game. It can be posted on billboards and rehashed in attack ads. No matter what subject the speaker subsequently discusses, their gaffe, however unrelated to the topic at hand, can be quoted to devalue their views.
Personally, I see putting a quote that the "quotee" dislikes in a sig as akin to that. I think it's an attitude that makes for more vitriolic interactions, and shouldn't be carried over to a debate forum. I'd rather not see it done by a player I respect.
