2 Questions: Antiquity? The original, original forum?

Postby Errinundera » Thu Apr 30, 2009 6:16 am

2 questions.

1) Why is the founding date for some nations, mine included, "antiquity". No complaints. Just curious.

2) Could the pre-Jolt threads be loaded here? Not a really serious question but there are some good threads there.
The world is not cyclical, not eternal or immutable, but endlessly transforms itself, and never goes back, and we can assist in that transformation.

Live on, survive, for the earth gives forth wonders. It may swallow your heart, but the wonders keep on coming. You stand before them bareheaded, shriven. What is expected of you is attention.

I can't answer those questions, but I can make a post to see my 'founding status' or whatever.

EDIT: Dang!

Back in the day, NS (the game) decided to record when peoples' nations were founded. This was quite a while ago so most nations have founding dates ... but some of us are old dinosaurs left over from the times prior to that, so the game has no way to tell when we were created. So we were founded "in antiquity" instead.

I do believe that 'antiquity' means you have a nation formed many sunrises ago.

I've noticed that some nations (including my own) have Antiquity listed here but have a founding date listed on the Jolt forum. Will it be possible at some point to transfer any of that data?
I wish I remember who wrote:Games like Nationstates are like a big cardboard box, and there are two kinds of people in the world. The kind who look at the empty void inside the box and ask "Where the hell is it?" and the kind who jump into the box with their friends and make it into a fort, or a spaceship.

Jolt has a "Joined Forum" date, which is when you started using your account there. How accurately that reflects your nation's founding date depends on how soon after creating your nation you visited their forum. In some cases, nations may have been founded months before their Jolt join date.

If this forum proves viable, I plan to add tools for mods to edit fields like that, but I don't know if they're prepared to take on the workload to deal with such requests. You would have to ask them, very nicely. :)

Funny how many nations of antiquity start posting here straight away.

That's because we all remember when we used to post on the real NS forums. Before the days of jolt.

I believe that was on alternate Tuesdays, provided that the moon was full and somebody had brought cheese toasties, otherwise they just didn't fricking work.

Also, I am terrified by the lack of dividing lines between posts. Terrified!

Edit: W00t, I am antiquated! At last! I have value! I'm off to sell myself. On the street. (II's still here, right?)

Sigh. I remember the old NS forums, slow and laggy as they were. I also remember my first nation, which would have garnered me the honour of being founded in antiquity as well. Sigh. R.I.P Imperial Arctica and the CAD forces that destromped all. I bet Doomingsland gets to be cool and have the founded in antiquity thing....*grumble grumble*

Haha, indeed. And they took the game down with them.

That was five years ago, though; now we have better software and hardware. Still, I'm taking this slow. Hence the load test. :)

Hmm, I predate the move to Jolt, and yet I believe my "joined Forum" date on Jolt matches my creation date. I wonder what this will say?

Well, I for one appreciate the effort.

Nah, sucking-up aside, it's pretty good timing as I've been feeling all disenchanted, and change of scenery is a good excuse to pretend otherwise.

I remember clearly the day I created Errinundera. I was at my sisters on Christmas Eve 2002 and my nephew showed me this you beaut site called NationStates. I didn't have a map handy and misspelled Errinundra. The site was only a couple of months old at the time and I recall a number of teething problems. So, my start date is 24 December 2002. Mind you, I allowed Errinundera to lapse for a couple of years. When I came back, Jolt was up and running.

This is just a comment (showing off, really), not a request.

For some reason I have my join date memorized: March 23, 2003. (Yes, the ninja mod was originally one of the March '03 flood of newbies! )

Despite knowing the exact date, I'm not sure I want to put it into my info once the tools are available. I kinda like the mystery of "Antiquity"!

So do I. That's why I'm not complaining. ;)

This might be on the paranoid side but I heard that old topics in the old forum were deleted after 60 days; will this happen here?

We did have to do that on the old forum, and turn off searching, too! I would hope we can run this forum without pruning. But this load test is meant to help figure things like that out.

At the moment the button I'm clicking most is 'View new posts', which I believe counts as an Advanced Search, otherwise it makes wading through even these small forums rather tiresome indeed. Let's hope it doesn't need to be turned off!

I've created a new category in NSwiki: Nations from Antiquity.

Hey. Anything to have some exclusivity!
