Capital city?

Postby Fictions » Tue Jul 07, 2009 9:42 am

I was talking to Cuk and he said that he has an option to change the name of his capital city in the settings... I looked in mine and its not there, how come?

He must have been talking about the now-defunct 'NationStates 2' game; this was certainly an option there...

(It's already on the list of suggested improvements for this game, so we might gain it here as well sooner-or-later...)

*Checks Settings furiously to find no new National Adjectives*
*Regulates Breathing*

Don't play with my emotions like that!

But seriously....

Upon some investigation into ze big list I dug up [violet]'s opinion on the matter. She seemed fully intrested in adding something like this.

Personally, a @@CAPITAL@@ tag would be great, and I think a @@RELIGION@@ (Major Religion) tag would be useful too for issue-writers. Because theres a tendency for the majority of issues discussing religion, (typically when the issue is talking about, big, powerful, rich religions) to focus on Catholicism. However that might not be 'politically correct' in a nation where Catholicism isn't the major region, but Frisbeetarism is.

I was also thinking, when there was a 'Most Devout Nation' ranking, the nation's major religion could be displayed along side their name, like

1. The Government Monopoly of Unibot (Frisbeetarism)

or instead of their motto, or WA category - their religion could be displayed in the table, just for that specific ranking. Nations that banned religion would obviously be displayed as atheist.

There is, I repeat is, a new settings option for naming a Capital City (w00t!). However, before I got that option, I received an issue (A regular "select an option" issue) asking if my nation even needed a capital at all. Once I selected that I did need a capital, completely unaware of the effect it would have since I'd never received that issue before, I received a telegram informing me that, lo and behold, I can pick my capital city in the settings page. So, all bow, I am now capitaled in the city of Leoldville!

Before you do that, go to my page and look at my description. Do you see it? I now have a capital city! w00t!

The only bug, which I will now go report in the "Got Issues" forum, is that some parts still give the capitals name as "Klonor City" (Which was the default name it came with when it appeared) instead of the new Leoldville.

But still, ain't it cool?

And you're sure the option is in the Settings, to change that city's name?

Yes, I have already updated it to Leoldville, which is the name I dubbed my capital long ago. You can see that name in the central paragraph, where it lists the non-issue-specific information.

I presume, though can not confirm, that the option only appears after you have received this issue, as before that it serves no purpose. Much like the ability to edit your national title, you must wait until you fit the criteria (That, or I just somehow managed to sneak in before anybody else)

Maybe the issue is only valid for Antiquitiers?

That'd be a shame.

It is in this version.

If you notice, my nation has a capital listed, and it's because of an issue that you're allowed to make a choice on. I'm assuming that without addressing that issue, you won't have a capital.

According to fellow #nationstates-ers, Sirocco did hint at 'something new' being implemented.
<Nathi|housework> That capital thing might be what Sirocco was hinting at earlier.
<Dylan> Hm?
<Nathi|housework> Capital issue you mentioned earlier.
<Dylan> What did Sirocco say?
<Nathi|housework> To keep an eye out for something new in the game.

OMFG, we get those, too?

You know, for a little while I was almost upset that we were losing NS2 (I know, I know, it sucked and was a real bitch to Max, but I was still hoping it might pull itself together), but with these updates we've already passed my wildest expectations. w00t for Max!

It appears so.

*SPOILER ALERT*

Look at Tubbsalot's national page to see the issues in action, and also, Ballotonia's gigantic list of issues has then documented now.

It is great to see some features salvage from the wreckage of NationStates 2 and presented here in a very accurate way to represent the growth of your nation. I have had the capital city one this morning. I hope to see people writing issues which make use of these fields soon.
