Most players in my region are from (real-world) Europe. When the event started at 23:00 (local time) yesterday, most players were in bed or had shut down their PCs, so they were unable to select researching a cure. The night passed and many nations were completely devastated by the zombies (since everyone was asleep). That's fine in principle, since it's still possible to fight back... except researching a cure goes so extremely slowly once a country is devastated that some nations report that their cure research is only at 37% after 4 hours of intense research. One nation actually did select to research a cure before night-time, but once they woke up they had already been overrun by zombies, diminishing effectiveness of the cure missiles, and could not be cured by others.
Sure, there might be some tactics that can still save us, but it's such a shame that this event is barely playable depending on the bed-times of your players. My region isn't hard-core, this event isn't a huge deal, but it's just such a shame that you can't play it casually in our situation.
My suggested solution is to allow nations to pre-select which route they will take once the apocalypse starts, so that when players wake up the next day, at least they have a cure already. In-universe, this would be "Oh no, there's zombies, and our leader is too asleep to make a choice, what do we do? We could not possibly have prepared for this! But wait, a few months ago we had a fun team bonding exercise where we pretended to do emergency response planning for a fictional zombie apocalypse, and our leader were quite clear on what they would do in this situation!" Such an option, made available once the first News announcement for Z-Day is made, would significantly enhance the event for us.
