The United States is the largest Anglophone nation. If it's night in the United States, the rate of new nations will go down. The combined populations of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland don't even graze the surface of the United States' population.

You're right in general but I'd consider 1/3 of the US population to be quite a bit more than grazing the surface.
