Inquiry into the possibility of donating to NS

Postby Bitely » Sat Oct 03, 2015 2:39 am

I've noticed that there are a lot of great ideas on how to improve NS. Most of wich would require coding. Is it possible to donate funds for game improvements to NS? If so how would I go about doing it?

There is. It's called the NationStates Store.
In=character, Kaboomlandia is a World Assembly member and abides by its resolutions. If this nation isn't in the WA, it's for practical reasons.

Yes but as we've already discussed this I've donated a lot via the store. I'm thinking more about donations earmarked for coding.

Appreciate the thought, but this kind of thing has never panned out when we've looked at it. The thing is, we'd never have enough to pay a professional programmer market rates, so we're still asking someone to donate their time, just with a small tip. In that situation, the tip is a nice gesture, but doesn't actually seem to motivate anyone: we're still relying on someone writing code just because they want to.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not referring to the small tips one would give NS by buying stamps ect.
I was thinking of something more in the $XXXX range.

Buy huge numbers of stamps, recruit all of NS to your region, win.

Unfortunately I haven't got to see them. (I'm a postmaster general) but I know that someone has reported them as flame baiting

Provided the content abides by our usual rules about ads, it's fine. There's even a whole post from [violet] on how to advertise on NationStates. Google usually does a good job of weeding out bad ads, as well.

This isn't meant to be a "ruling" (since I also haven't seen the ad since I'm also a Postmaster), but I suspect it's probably fine.

Why am I getting the sinking feeling that the U.S. Election and the related campaigns are eventually going to play into this somehow?

We've had election-related ads showing up on the site since we got off of Jolt in 2009. :P Given the amount of political discourse/debate/mudflinging/etc that goes on, it's not really surprising that Google's keywords widget goes "This is a good site to serve political campaign ads to!"

Say do any of you mods know if Max would be willing to sell nationstates? (In whole or in part)

And you call us the elite...

I really want to believe that you want to improve the game. I really do. But you refuse to listen to your peers and even break the rules to gain power. I don't want that kind of person owning NationStates, and I can only assume that our Father who art in Australia has enough of a soul to feel the same way.

I don't know. I'm not sure if any of the other mods would know.

Your best bet is contacting Max directly if you have a serious proposition.

While I obviously cannot speak for Max, it's worth noting that I seriously doubt he's interested in selling, especially after the debacle our ill-fated partnership with Jolt turned into.

EDIT TO ADD: And as Mouse already noted, buying ad space on NS is easy. And probably cheaper than you would think. You could probably get some decent mileage out of a Google ad targeting NS for prices comparable to your average mass-TG stamp campaign. I know I was able to stretch a freebie $30 Adwords credit to last me some six months awhile back on another website.

Too bad it is lying to our faces. If you support the WA, why did you try to condemn it?
