[IDEA]Nations' regions visible on Forum Comments

Postby Corvus Corax » Thu Jan 22, 2015 6:00 am

In NS forums, regional origin of commenter would be visible in a nation's comments (included to Nations' stats), similar way that its now game-side with nations whom are not in a region where they comment on RMB (if allowed by executives).

Would help little bit when gathering impression who and where from are nations commenting this or that Forum topic. Currently such information is behind 2 clicks/pages.

Technically it's only one click, since if you click on their flag it takes you to their nation page, which tells you their region.

Even in a one-line post, there's a lot of empty space in that infopane where the home region could be stashed though, so it's a fair enough suggestion.

The flag of the pre-war American Commonwealth with various chems and drugs replacing the stars, representing a love of the old world and a love of drugs.

Indeed. I missed that.

Anyway. Getting fast impression about origins of people commenting a forum thread my point there. It works well with RMBs, why not with Forum comments too?

Would this show the region that they were actually in when they posted, or just their current region which might well be different?
The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

Good notion. I think it would be in practice the region where a nation resided when post was made. I think it is that way on RMBs.

I see complications behind that Idea, but we must remember that players can: 1.) create new nations when ever they wish, 2.) move them where ever they wish (if movement to a region is not barred by founders/WADs).

The Point here is still: How to Get easily fast impression whom and where people post from to a particular topic. Nations are always residing in some (one) regions anyway.

Increased transparency is the Key conception behind this Idea Proposal.

i wondered because I'm fairly sure that nation pre-titles on forum posts change change if & when the nation changes pre-title and I thought that, because of how the forum's built, the same mechanics might have to apply in this situation too...

I think it'd be more than adequate to merely list a nation's presently-residing region, since that's probably what the forum's built for.
Perhaps a tool could be added gameside to list a person's region-history.

Getting the forum to access the game information requires manual code from [violet]. Nothing like that is built into the forums. Currently, forum accounts do a lookup of a nation name (which is also the assigned forum name), the flag (avatar), classification (i.e. "Inoffensive Centralist Democracy") and a hidden password (not the same as your game password). If regional information could be added, it would necessarily be the current region displayed on all of the player's posts, regardless of post time.

We don't track that. You can use offsite tools like NS History if you're curious.

Sorry that it wasn't clear, but this is actually what I meant.
