Sorry, this isn't a simple cosmetic joke like the Liberal/Conservative themes that were eventually added to the theme selector; this is a short-term gag, and part of the point is that it's only around briefly. It won't be introduced as a regular game feature.

IMHO, NationStates should have a "Minigame" section where players can toggle on & off the views for the 3 past NS minigames (Challenge, Zombies, Bytecoin) and play them even after the day of the public event. Each game could reset once a month, and have leaderboards.

There is no reason the games couldn't run all the time, but let people determine whether to show & use them.

Edit: Heck Max could make people pay to "subscribe" to the minigames each month and earn extra $ if he wants.

Except as evidenced by the current lag, running one beats the hell out of the server, nevermind all of them, even as optional/paid features.

Rep, would slowing down the event, like having it update every 10 minutes or so, kill the server less? Just curious.

Sure, because it is a once a year event, so everyone gets on NS to play it. If it ran year round, it would be less exclusive, and so the mad rush to be on NationStates would be much less.

If there is additional overhead, than that is good! NationStates is supposed to be a game, a game people PLAY! It is GOOD to have MORE players. I am disheartened to see the staff here advocating exclusivity and a reduced playerbase. I heavily doubt that was/is Max's vision.

I'm rather annoyed at all the posters here who think that keeping ByteCoin (and other NS related games) as an option would mean the site gets tons of traffic every day. That is absurd idea, bordering on downright idiotic. Most of the people would stop caring and the people who still want to play would keep playing. The hype would die down, like it inevitably does with any new thing.

Even if I am wrong, the ByteCoin stayed popular, and NS got tons more traffic every day, that is still a good thing. Max would make that much more from ads and the store, could invest in better/more servers for NS, and everyone would be happy.

I would however support a petition that forced technical forum posters to pass basic competencies on spelling, grammar, the internet, and technology.

Yes, apologies to everyone having troubles. The forum needs to contact gameside to verify logins, and gameside is getting smashed by high traffic.

I'm doing the best I can, but things will probably continue to be slow & fragile for a little while.
