You only need to use your password to access and answer issues. If you're concerned you can just not use issues. Your password isn't saved at all though and I don't really want it to be honest.

But if you do use issues it will attempt to login. If something went wrong with this it would be what gave you a bad login attempt.

I don't trust this app as far as I can throw it, and will not be downloading it - even though I could disable its permissions if I felt like it.

The app does have internet access, unless you're phone currently doesn't. You can get everything from parsing XML (from the API http://www.nationstates.net/pages/api.html) and HTML for the parts not included in the API.

STORAGE
MODIFY OR DELETE THE CONTENTS OF YOUR USB STORAGE MODIFY OR DELETE THE CONTENTS OF YOUR SD CARD
Allows the app to write to the USB storage. Allows the app to write to the SD card.

Why does the App have these permissions?

It saves the flags of the nations you follow so that it doesn't have to reparse them everytime you open the app.

In response to all the iphone app posts: Currently this isn't possible due to lack of time and resources that it would take to make. Right now my goal is to keep improving the android app. At some point down the line, if the Android version receives a good enough response and I can get enough of a chunk of free time, an ios version is a possibility.

Seconded.

I think open-source would be a very good idea, especially since there is currently no way to prove that the App isn't simply an elaborate plan to steal a bunch of passwords. Making it open-source could help lower quite a bit of these concerns, if I am not mistaken.

The creator of the app is relatively new, and could be a puppet for all we know. Nothing against the creator, but I personally won't be downloading or trying out the app until I have verification that it is unable to simply send passwords back to the creator.

I don't currently plan to open source this. My current plans are to keep developing the app independently.

And as I said before... you DO NOT need to log in to use the app. Login is only required to access issues ( the same as on the website). Also... I DO NOT want your password. I made this app for fun after discovering Nation States about a month ago and being surprised there was no app yet.

What would I even do with your password? I don't want to answer your countries issues, I have my own.

It would. But it's not the only option available to address these concerns. Other options are opening it up to the Admins/a few select people to review the code(yet not giving them the rights that open source usually contains) so that they can claim that version X of the app is safe etc.

The creator of the app is relatively new, and could be a puppet for all we know. Nothing against the creator, but I personally won't be downloading or trying out the app until I have verification that it is unable to simply send passwords back to the creator.

Also, do not forget IP addresses and email addresses.

Unfortunately whether or not you'd do anything with the information that people are concerned about (passwords, email/IP addresses, etc,) there are players out there who would make use of it given the chance. This means that while it looks like an impressive app, there will be some people extremely suspicious of it.

Just uploaded an update to the app. It should fix a bug that was causing occasional crashing during issues login.

EDIT: Uploaded another update that adds nation comparisons for economy, political freedoms, and civil rights. I'm planning on adding more comparison types soon as well.

I'd like to request an Apple app.

The features are nice, although I can't seem to log in. (Also, I think the app is sending two login requests. I tried logging in 3 times, and NS is telling me there have been 6 bad attempts.) You should work with [violet] and get the dev team to extend the API, so that this can be a full-featured app. The major reason why I won't be using it, though, is the UI. It's pretty ugly, if we're being honest. If you don't have much experience with UI design, I'm sure somebody on NS does. Maybe get together with them, if you don't want to just open-source it? (Though I really think all apps using the NS API should be open-source...)
