Halc would have traded you his three best officers for this feature if he were still around.

this is partially in reply to some posts about reordering nations in the dossier:

while testing (just a tiny little bit though), i noticed that the order of nations displayed in one's dossier doesn't change. no matter how you add nations with a text-file, they are just displayed alphabeticaly. however, in the text-file you download, the nations are sorted by time of addition.

maybe just allowing the dossier to display nations in order of addition can be sufficient to simulate a dossier with folders? you can just group nations in a textfile to upload. and separate them by some dummy-nations?

this is a nice addition by the way!

New version is up.
- user feedback more clear.
- ignoring beginning/trailing whitespace for each nation name.

Is it a feature that you could dossier yourself through this tool?

I've just downloaded my dossier from 'Warzone Codger' and uploaded it on 'Codger' . Now 'Codger' has 'Codger' dossiered.

Well, Ballotonia just saved hours, literally hours of planned future time that would have been me uploading all my nations to an unidentified nation of mine so I could keep a better eye on them all through the dossier and reports featured. It even allowed me to upload dead ones. Cheers!

Yep, that's part of the feature. Just like being able to upload dead nations to the nation dossier.

Just write the name of a CTE'd puppet (or enemy) in the dossier folder, and upload it to your dossier using this feature. It'll be in your dossier as a dead link. When and if that nation resurrects, the link will automatically become active in your dossier as well.

Any chance that the nations could be separated by, instead of new lines, commas or colons?

We gotta go with something. If we made them commas, then that would inconvenience someone else.

The idea of newlines is that it's easier to read for players and easier to copy/paste (part of) the file. Using colons or commas means all nation names are crammed on one line when opening in a text editor. It's also easier to handle for most people when there was a format error on line 215 than a format error on character 3274 of line 1.

Scripters shouldn't have a problem either way.

You can use the Find/Replace feature in Microsoft Word to accomplish that if necessary.

What do I put in the 'replace' in word then to get a new line?

In Word 2007 it's: ^l
You can also click "More", and under Special select manual end of line.

Can this be extended to regions?

Surprised no one asked this, I thought you want to be importing the whole dossier, not just one half of it.

What's the use case for your suggestion? Since the Reports don't use regions, what would be the benefit?

If people dossier regions, which they do, then it is not unfathomable that people would want to share this. I never dossier regions so I couldn't care less about this addition (and I'm sure most R/Ders would agree with me), but I can see why sharing a list of, say, founderless regions, might be helpful to some people.
