Export Dossier to XML

Postby Commander Halcones » Thu Jun 09, 2011 12:15 am

Here's something that would be useful - an option to export your dossier to an XML file, so you can then save it as some spreadsheet or word file. This would go very nicely with the newly added "REMOVE ALL" function. When a nation's dossier reaches its limit, that nation can then export their dossier as an XML file. They can then clear the dossier, still having all the nation names in the previous dossier saved for reference.

I wasn't even aware there was a nation limit on dossier nations, and am slightly disappointed by that fact. That said, I fully support this. I previously posted a thread regarding XML exports of saved telegrams; if something like this was implemented, it might be nice to see both implemented at once, considering their similarity in function.

Thanks for your support.

Indeed, there is a limit of 2500 nations. You'd be amazed how quickly I can hit this limit when dossiering nations I have sent recruitment messages to - just a few days is all it takes!

It would be nice if I could have a log of all such nations as a separate file somewhere, then it wouldn't clog up server space.

Not only that, but if you could keep several XML files of nations locally, and have the option of loading any one of them onto the server to generate reports, it would not only save server space, but allow you much greater control over how you receive your reports. The more I think of this idea, the more I like it, despite the fact that I very much doubt I, personally, would ever reach that limit :P

Don't you have a forum? Just start a thread. If not, just copy paste any nation you telegram to an outside program (probably Excel).

Are you crazy?

My method is way better than making some manual log. Do you not know how long that takes? It is a great deterrent for any recruiter. Our method is fast and effective. We don't need to make copies of our dossier before we clear them but it would help, simply to look up to see if a nation was really sent a message.

Furthermore, making a manual log is not recruiter friendly - you go to send a message, do you look up that nation everytime to see if they have already been sent a message? That would ages.

We see a nation is in the dossier, we know it has been sent a message. Very fast. Very efficient.

How would XMl help you if you do not have an automated way to process those? You'd still be looking up nations in a list...

Geek mode: "light year" is a measure of distance, not time. :p

If you're asking for this change for recruiting purposes only, please be aware that we're looking at overhauling the way recruiting works, which would probably make this suggestion redundant.

We would only be looking up nations to check they are telling the truth when they say they have been sent a message. As for recruiting, we would not need to look up - any nations we go to recruit will be recently founded, therefore if they were sent a message, they would still be in the dossier.

What sort of changes may be brought to recruiting?
