Random. I believe that only the first one is set (voluntary voting, compulsory voting, no voting). And something about new nations only being able to get the first 30 issues but someone is going to have to correct me on that one.

My question: The easter eggs - are they normal issues like any other, except that they're really dumb and quite hilarious? :P Do they not add to your statistics, or are they not represented on your country's history, or something?

First, they're unusual in that they're very difficult to get. The game keeps track of how many of them you've encountered and will list this on your nation's page together with the effect of the issue. And, each of them can only be received once.

That's right, it's the case for the first month or so... although even then the selection's random, so you might get some of them more than once each during that period and others not at all...

The Issue
During the middle of the night, someone has mysteriously put a lever in the middle of the city park. On it, it says, "Pull the Lever, And See The World End."

The Debate
1. "I've always wanted to see the apocalypse." says an elderly man on a park bench. "All that fire and brimstone. To see God's wrath. Something I can tell my grandchildren about later on. I say we should."

2. "Not on your life!" says his wife sitting next to him. "If you pull that lever, we'll have no grandchildren, no life, only heaven and hell. Don't you dare pull that lever."

3. "Now, don't think of it as a do/don't option," says a hot dog vendor. "What if we give tours so that people can see the lever? Not to touch it of course, but to see that humanity can be ruined by such a contraption. We can make a profit."

What exactly are the outcomes of these three options?

Added to the list:
#264: Not A Drop To Drink [Vincon; ed:Kandarin]
#265: To Bail or Not to Bail? [Niryuugoku; ed:Glen-Rhodes]

That first one strikes me as a very similar problem as:
#096: Water Supply Problems Becoming A Major Drain [Calvin n Hobbes; ed:Reploid Productions]
but the options provided are all quite different. Seems it's the same problem, but much more severe.

In the case of NationStates an easter egg issue is one with very specific requirements to obtain that can only be obtained once.

There's a new issue and a new Easter egg, #266. The issue does not itself claim to be an Easter egg, but after you answer it, the description in the National Happenings includes "(@@NAME@@ has found n Easter eggs)".

Breaching the Great Fourth Wall of @@NAME@@

After the recent eXtra-Kinetocam Cartographic Digital satellite survey revealed that @@NAME@@ is a surprisingly tiny section of land on a peninsula of a much larger continent, expeditions sent to explore these new lands have found a wide assortment other landmasses- all with new cultures and foreign civilizations. Of course, now people are wondering what to do with... or about... their newly-discovered neighbors.

The Debate

1. "Isn't it obvious? We must establish contact and trade with these other countries!" the CEO of one of the major mining companies notes happily, gesturing toward the XKCD survey map with a laser pointer. "The land claimed by Stalclaft is noted to contain a particular gaseous resource that could prove profitable for us! Never mind the report also says that the place is a war zone!"

2. "Are you insane? We're completely and totally vulnerable to attack!" declares General @@RANDOMNAME@@ while flailing at the new world map in a dramatic fashion. "We know nothing about these civilizations, what their intentions are, what they're capable of! Look at how massive that Cea-Dicee is, just to the south of us! What little we do know about them implies that they have SPACESHIPS! We need to strengthen our military to protect against these threats at all costs!"

3. "Don't mind the paranoid ravings of the General there." Noted scholar @@RANDOMNAME@@ states calmly, while tapping a spot on the map just offshore to the northeast of the peninsula. "We're simply expanding our understanding of the world and where we fit in it. The report says that the ancient ruins of Subspais are on the seafloor here, and I think it would be a most worthy endeavor to study them. It won't be cheap, but knowledge is the greatest resource we can have! As the saying goes, knowledge is power!"

4. "This hippie professor doesn't get it." Admiral @@RANDOMNAME@@ scoffs. "We have an opportunity here! For instance, this island of Uoeq to the west of us. They'd never see us coming; after establishing forward bases there, we could easily begin a campaign against Cea-Dicee and take their land and technology for ourselves! With that turned into a colony of @@NAME@@, the island of Sekonlif would fall easily, and we could seize Stalclaft's precious gas. Just imagine, eventually the entire continent could be under our control... or rather, YOUR control."

5. "Don't believe these lies for a minute!" Notorious and arguably very crazy conspiracy theorist @@RANDOMNAME@@ quickly unrolls a chart over the XKCD survey map before giving you what looks like a hat made of tinfoil. "These 'new lands' are all part of a conspiracy by the evil alien Bunny-Knights of Violet! I have evidence here that proves that these bunnies from space want us to THINK there are lands beyond what we already know. It's quite clear that this map is completely phony and that if we fall for it, we feed them our delicious mind-carrots! Forget this map of lies @@LEADER@@, for the sake of our mind-carrots!

IMHO, it not mentioning being an easter egg should be considered an error in the issue.

Any idea about author / editor? I'd like to mention that as well in the list.

I think Reploid Productions was both author and editor. I'll verify that the next time I get it. (So far, one of my nations has gotten it once every 3 or 4 days.)

I hope this is not another one of those "mod writes own issue and places it immediately in the game by-passing anything and everyone else".

BTW, I'm not so sure this is an easter egg. If it were, you wouldn't get it repeatedly for the same nation. All other easter eggs are one-time issues only, and I don't think something technically qualifies as an easter egg if it is given every few days...

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I have a lotta nations. (I think the number is 236 now.) About once every 3 or 4 days, another different nation seems to get this issue. This is considerably less frequently than for a typical new issue.

He means that one or another of his numerous nations gets it (although only once per nation), I think. Isn't 'Kindly Professor Hell' part of the Ultharite experiment in seeing how puppet nations react to differing policies?

Ok, clear now. Thanks! I have a paltry 137 nations, and only got this one once. And indeed, the effect does list it being an easter egg.

It's in a random order. There's one big pool with all issues your nation is valid for and it randomly selects one of them when the update is done. It could be your first issue... in theory.

Ban Explosive Fireworks!

Postby Terdiatlans » Sun Dec 19, 2010 3:27 am

The Issue
People in @@CAPITAL@@ of @@NAME@@ are protesting against new resolutions, what are making fireworks legal without any limitations

The Debate
We outrage that such a thing was ever allowed, says social worker @@RANDOMNAME@@. More and more inhabitants of @@NAME@@ are losing their hands, sight, hearing and fingers because of dangerous fireworks. More and more children are having fun on throwing fireworks to crowds. Hospitals are full of patients burned from firework explosion. Children and animals are horrified! Fireworks must be immediately banned!

We agree that the use of fireworks must be limitated, says @@MAJORINDUSTRY@@ worker @@RANDOMNAME@@, but why they must be outlawed? It is fun, it is solemn, pompous and really impressive! We we have the idea that fireworks can be used only on special days, like 4.th of July, New year or @@LEADER@@´s birthday. But, if you want to use them another day, like your birthday, you must ask for permission. Regulated use of fireworks is great idea!

Fireworks and banned!? Fireworks are amazing and safe fun, says president of firework organisation @@RANDOMNAME@@ ! If is someone harmed by them, it is only due to his stupidity! Fireworks are impressive, extremely funny, beautiful, colourful and explosive! We absolutely do not see why fireworks should be banned! We think, that using fireworks on special days should be compulsory for everyone older than 12!

Noticed a couple of errors in the listings:

#077 - the url tags for the link to Jennifer Government aren't correct.

#256 - you've said:
High crime rates have made the inner cities of TheSource's largest conurbations increasingly dangerous and undesirable places to live.
