Yes, we fix stats if someone says they think an option effected their nation wrongly and they'd like us to check to see if something's up. We don't hand out the stats, we never have.

After choosing that option with one of my puppets, the civil rights rating jumped when it should have fallen.

(Of course, the change could have been caused by one of the other issues I had answered.)

Other four answers: legalize cannibalism, ban Harry Potter books, seize gold finds, and crack down on subversive groups.

Altogether, I would have expected my civil rights to have fallen; instead, they rose unexpectedly.

I've checked, and conferred, and the stats on that option are correct.

It is possible that clicking that option could lead to an improvement in personal freedoms if the nation in question already had (a) mandatory religion, as well as considerable censorship. This is because, although people are no longer able to promote their religion, there is no longer a bar on being able to choose their religion or indeed being able to choose no religion at all.

Ah, that makes sense. That nation considerably censors all views not in lockstep with those of the government; and, in the past, I have chosen some of the religious extremist options, such as stoning adulterers.

Thank you.

It's not a problem.

Please feel free* to ask us to double-check options of issues that you feel may be incorrect or may be too severe (or indeed not severe enough!); although there's no guarantee that we'll change those stats, we should at least be able to help you understand why it may have effected a nation in a certain way.

"Unfair" tax burden.

Postby Jakyland » Thu Mar 20, 2014 4:41 am

I know this doesn't exactly fit into this forum but it is the best thread I could find. I find it weird that the issue with citizens suffering under an "unfair" tax burden that there is not option to increase/or keep the same current tax rates and increase law & order or some thing to crack down on tax evaders.

Each issue could potentially have hundreds of viable options - we have to keep them down to a reasonable quantity. It's also an original Max issue, so won't be edited.

That´s ridiculous, because this is "nationstates", not "real life"; how about an "historical example" for "Aliens demand peaceful contact and trade" ? or "Zombie invasion" ?

The a recent law portion of this sentence is redundant, since it is preceded by "following new legislation".

The Issue
A collection of citizens, civil rights workers, and concerned mothers have signed a petition to stop the manufacturing of the 'BFG-69' ...

It's entirely possible someone can look completely female on the outside, including genitalia, but have testes within the body. Testes are sexual organs. Similarly it's possible for a someone to have male genitalia externally but have ovaries and the like within the body. Basically, internal sex organs and external sex organs are obviously linked but different; the latter are usually referred to as genitalia.

So yes, we do think about what we write.

Apieceofswisscheese wrote:In selection 2 armour should be armor. In selection 3 Worker's should be Workers’

Armour is the British English spelling. As for the greengrocer's apostrophe, I would agree that it should be either Workers' or Workers (since the latter is also used in the names of unions).

The expletive isn't actually used within the issue so I'm not too concerned about this. If anyone asks we can say the F means freaking :P

So yes, we do think about what we write.

Genitalia does limit the organ to the exterior but organ itself does not limit itself to the inside. The eye, skin, and penis are organs. Since a penis is a male sexual organ that exists on the outside where it is plainly visible the issue as stated is physically impossible. I checked my understanding by looking up organ, penis, and genitalia (which doesn't appear in the issue).

I'm just reporting a common usage of the acronym. I'm not offended. There is also a double meaning for a big gun that makes the model number 69 interesting and freaking a rather weak defense.

*sigh*
I'll quote the relevant part for you:

"They have a vagina, like anybody else's," she said, "but it's basically just a pouch, it's not connected to a uterus. There is no uterus. But what they have internally is testes that you would typically find in a male."

Note the issue says male and female organs. Both the vagina and testes are organs, and testes can be found internally. As such it's incredibly possible for someone to possess both male and female sexual organs, but look female on the outside. It even happens in real life.

This seems like a rather redundant complaint.

Continued discussion rather than additional complaint. I don't recognize the material or see its relevance in that I've never used the word testes before and have couched my argument entirely in terms of definitions and the issue as written: "Atlanta Johnson possesses both male and female sexual organs, despite being entirely female in external appearance."
or·gan (ôr′gən) 2. (Biology) A differentiated part of an organism, such as an eye, wing, or leaf, that performs a specific function.
pe·nis (pē′nĭs) 1. (Anatomy) the male organ of copulation in higher vertebrates, also used for urine excretion in many mammals.

The issue says Atlanta Johnson possesses male organs, and a penis is a visible male organ so Atlanta Johnson can not be entirely female in external appearance regardless of the state of the testes. It is also possible to limit things to the inside by using the phrase internal organs, but the author didn't do that.
