Economy is unfair, protesters say.

Postby The Martian Hegemony » Wed Aug 19, 2015 2:00 pm

Validity: This issue is not valid for communist or socialist nations.

Thousands of the poorer citizens of @@NAME@@ have rallied in the streets, demanding income equality and waving signs in the air with various rude phrases directed at @@LEADER@@.

[option]"The Economy is becoming more and more segregated, with the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer," says @@RANDOMNAME@@, a leader of the protest, as he spray-paints over a stop sign. "We demand equal pay for all and the end of the one percent dominating the country! All it will take is a complete restructuring of the economy is we know it."
[effect] @@NAME@@ is often referred to as a 'commie party' in @@REGION@@.
[stats] Government increases, tax rate increases, economy decreases, political freedom decreases, Authoritarianism increases

[option]"That's nonsense! These protesters are causing very serious harm to private and public property." says @@RANDOMNAME@@, your top general, as he covers up a recent controversial military action. "I have an entire battalion of @@NAME@@'s best troops ready to take control of the situation here. All we need is your word, and these protesters will be machine gun fodder. I mean, err, on trial for civil offenses."
[effect] An all-out war has begun in @@NAME@@ between pro-equality protesters and the military.
[stats] Political freedom decreases, happiness decreases, Authoritarianism increases, death rate from War increases

[option]"Now, everyone needs to just calm down!" says @@RANDOMNAME@@, the winner of '@@NAME@@'s Richest Citizen' for twelve consecutive years. "I think you should just hold a public address about the helping hand of Capitalism and its promise. And about promises, I sort of vowed to give my top workers a six percent raise, so if you could just eliminate all market controls, I'll be able to keep all my promises. You know how important honesty is to us CEOs!"
[effect] Ninety nine percent of @@NAME@@ is below the poverty line.
[stats] Economy increases, tax rate decreases, happiness decreases, Income Inequality increases

[option]"Dude, that's not radicool." interjects @@RANDOMNAME@@, a famous 17 year-old skateboarder as he runs his fingers through is multicolored Mohawk. "But I, like, totally understand where these dudes are, like, coming from, dude. It's really about sticking it to the man, and, like, personal freedom. The basic ideas are like, totally dope! You should just lower the drinking age, smoking age, legal driving age, legal voting age, and age of consent, to, like, fourteen. It would be so totally rad!"
[effect] The youth of @@NAME@@ often identifies with the phrase, "Live fast, die drunk".
[stats] Civil Rights increases, Unexpected Death Rate increases, Authoritarianism decreases

[option] "Now wait a minute, everybody!" Interrupts @@RANDOMNAME@@, a humans rights activist, as the previous speaker is hauled off by security for concealed underage alcohol. "None of these options are viable. We should avoid the fragility of Communism, but we shouldn't submit to the crushing hopelessness of trickle-down Capitalism! I propose a much better solution. We should allow for steep salaries and large pay differences, but we should also maintain some control over the stock market and increase tax rates on the rich. It works better that way. You can think of it as the best of both worlds!"
[effect] @@NAME@@ has the favor of neither the world's Capitalist nations nor its Communist ones.
[stats] Tax rate increases, Income Inequality decreases, happiness increases, death from Old Age increases.

I'm open to all forms of criticism. This if my first time trying to make an issue, and I probably didn't do some things right.

No, like this, for example:
[option]"There needs to be more issues," says @@RANDOMNAME@@.
"Results" should be replaced with [effect], like this:
[effect]a huge backload of issues come up 24/7
Those are just examples to help and show you what proper uses of tags you need. For stats, use [stats].

Yes. Oh, your first and second options' [option] tag doesn't match up with your third.

Is that the correct usage of the [stat] tag? If so, do the effects make sense?

Yes, the stat tag is correct. As for your actual effects, I recommend using "decreases," "increases," stuff like that. Also, under your nation's analysis page, you'll find all your statistics. Also, to help cope with your noobiness, Sirocco wrote this brilliant guide on how to write issues. I hope that guide answers any more questions you might ask about the format of drafting issues.

Quick proofreading error -

All we need is you're word, and these protesters will be machine gun fodder.

should be:

All we need is your word, and these protesters will be machine gun fodder.

Other than that... Hmmm. I like the options so far. Just thinking - perhaps to keep it more in line with RL stuff the capitalist viewpoint could be claiming that the removal of certain employment laws would lead to greater competitiveness within the workforce... that sort of thing. The issue isn't so much about market controls after all, it's more about employees not benefiting from the economy.

Perhaps stick in another option - something like

[option] "Well, I don't think either of those options is going to work" chirps up noted economist @@RANDOMNAME@@ "thing is, we don't want the economic stagnation that comes with communism, but we also don't want the poverty and desperation that comes with capitalism. Maybe we should try for the best of both systems? Institute a minimum wage act, and maybe some rent controls. We can raise taxes a bit on businesses to pay for it - I'm sure that big business will see reason and start paying their fair share"
[effect] Large companies are exploiting every loophole imaginable to avoid the new "social responsibility act" whilst smaller businesses collapse overnight
As an editor I seam to spend an awful lot of thyme going threw issues and checking that they're no oblivious errars. Its a tough job but someone's got too do it!

I would have the issue test for high Income Inequality and all the options raise or lower it.

You also might want to touch on Authoritarianism, Compassion, Corruption, Employment, Law Enforcement, Pro-Market, Safety from Crime, and Unexpected Death Rate for your options.

Umm… not to bust you head or anything, but options 1 through 4 have the [option] tag wrong. They need to be like your option 5, which is the correct format. It should be like this (for example: [option]"We need to do something!" yells a protestor outside your office. An issue won't be accepted for using the wrong format.

Rethink your effect line for option 4. It's too long and boring. They are usually short and snappy that sums up after what happens after you pick that option.
