If you are a fan of the works of H.P. Lovecraft,
please move to Lovecraft Country!

There are other Lovecraftian/Cthulhist regions out there,
but none are very active. Lovecraft Country will be.

(Actually, Dagon is pretty active, and it's also nice, but it has somewhat of a different philosophy from Lovecraft Country. We'll discuss with anybody interested.)

So if you're a follower of Azathoth, Yog-Sothoth, Cthulhu and all the rest of the Great Old Ones, or if you just like your geometry non-Euclidean, move to Lovecraft Country today!

Yeah, I know! I mean, I'm fully half human, but those racist bastards don't even treat me like I'm 1 percent one of them! Just because I'm nine feet tall, and I have tentacles growing out of my abdomen, and eyes on my hips, and I'm covered in a thick coat of hair from my chest down, and my legs and feet are that of a goat, and in my veins I have a yellowish ichor instead of blood. Does that make me a monster?

Anybody who thinks that makes me a monster has never met my brother!

Well, aside from the obvious problem of trying to navigate there since Cthulhu doesn't follow the laws of physics and that sorta makes it hard to plan a route, we're pretty glad with staying where we are and keeping our sanity.

I'd suspect you hate Lovecraft for his racist tones and themes, as well as his beliefs. Well, I won't excuse it, instead I praise it. Lovecrafts fear of the otherworldly, the strange and savage other races are what gave birth to and fueled his best works. Cthulu, the Dunwich horror, the Colour out of Space, and many others were are either derived in part of whole from his fears of other races. These stories capture the character and moods of the time, especially that of the poor white working class - who were fighting a sweeping tide of unwelcome immigrants who competed with them for work and homes in the cities. So was Lovecraft an extreme racist? Sure, absolutely. His racism helps us today understand the mood and fears of his day, nearly 100 years later. Even foul and incorrect beliefs can be put to a good use. Nothing is irredeemable.

Thank you all for bumping my regional recruitment thread over Cthulhumas. Your love - and hate - did a great job of keeping this thread high on the "gameplay" forum list! I'm just sorry I wasn't hear to read the posts as they came in. (I just got back home a few hours ago.)

Yeah, very astute. However, I got an even simpler refutation, and that's that you can't judge historical people by contemporary standards of morality. HP Lovecraft was a white man who lived in the 1920s and 30s. Every white man who lived in the 1920s and 30s was racist. You can't hate him for being the exact same way everybody else in his environment was. And no doubt, people today hold prejudices and phobias that people of future generations will not, and they're almost certainly going to call us "scumbags" for holding the beliefs that we do. And they're going to be just as wrong as people today who judge people from Lovecraft's era as such. People can only be judged by the standards of morality of their own time, not by those of our time.

But none of it matters, actually, because HP Lovecraft doesn't run Lovecraft Country, I do! So it doesn't matter how racist HP Lovecraft may or may not have been, because he's not the one with his finger on the mouse button, I am! And I have nothing against any of the humans' "folk taxonomies." You are all equally "scumbags," and all equally going to get swept from this insignificant planet with my father Yog-Sothoth opens the gate and Dead Cthulhu reawakens.

"The Whisperer in Darkness" was on TV last night. Did anybody see it? (Or has anybody seen it before?)

Great movie!

I just wish it was in color, though. I understand, they wanted the black-and-white to give it that retro 1920s feel, but the way I see it, there's a very good reason people started using color photography in films - because color looks better!

But still, great story, great movie.
