Lies. When I checked at nine people, it was 4-4-1. Had to get that one from somewhere.

Hehehe, it's okay.

I will say as I said in skype, I thought all three candidates proved themselves capable of being a good delegate, and would assume that if all three remain active they are likely (again, in my opinion) to be the next three names at the top of the region page. The question at hand now is merely the order.

INTERVIEW WITH THE BRUCE

With debate regarding "Commend The Bruce" stirring, NS Confidential's Nervbraiain sat down with The Bruce, Founder of Wysteria, for a chat.

1. This is more of a question that I've always wondered your name is The Bruce; however, your flag/forum avatar is a photo of Superman. Superman's alter ego is Clark Kent. Batman's alter ego is Bruce Wayne, therefore why not have a flag/forum avatar of Batman?

The Bruce is a combination of my name and Robert the Bruce. I know, early on with so many nation names to choose from and I chose something that unoriginal. The various fields for my nation are a bit of a hodgepodge. The kopin currency is a reference to Groo the Wanderer. The national animal (rampant surly badger) is a joke about a year in the infantry when officers were naming every field exercise after rampant this or that to try to make things sound cool. The superheroes I like most are the self-less ones like Superman or Samurai Jack. It could have just as easily been a Samurai Jack picture for my flag.

2. Some have called you ban happy, and stubborn with such nations as: Empire of Cats, Jeux, Minoriteeburg, Tim-Opolis, and one of Sedgistan's puppets banned from Wysteria some could see why people would think that. However, others believe that you're a wise, good leader, that will continue to ensure that Wysteria stands tall through the test of time. What do you think about all of this?

I've tried to be consistent. We have a zero tolerance policy for invaders, spammers, and griefers nesting in Wysteria. There are nations that have come here, after their own regions were destroyed by invaders. Laying out a welcome mat for invaders is a slap to the face to those players. Invaders used to regularly stop by, just to see if I'm still kicking invaders out, and I did. In one case I've banned a respected member of the defender community, after they betrayed the trust that other defenders put in them, by invading, and then using their influence in defender groups and lying to keep defenders from stopping them. That also ended an embassy that I would have otherwise not walked away from, had that region's government not supported the offending parties in their regional government. In the end it comes down to being consistent and doing your best not to compromise your regional values just for those who do so themselves.

3. Is the nation of Wysteria in any way associated with Wysteria?

Not in any of its incarnations. The name recently became available and despite defenders friendly to Wysteria doing their best to grab that nation name for us, an invader got there first. That's why the nation of Wysteria is banned from Wysteria. Some people collect nation names and some do so with bad intentions. My understanding is that the nation has been given by one invader to another, who has less bad intentions towards our region.
4. When running a region what do you think every founder needs to take into consideration?

Showing up is a good start. Too many founders think that their work is done after their name is at the top of the region page and a couple nations show up. Community building isn't done by NationStates fairies while you sleep. You need to be active enough to recruit for your region and then give them a reason to stick around. As founder, you're also ultimately responsible for your region's security, so you'd better be able to react when something threatens your regional community.

4 B: Do you believe that founder's need to have a one on one relationship to some extent with each member?

It's more important that you make yourself available to the regional community and treat them fairly. Do that and the relationships with your fellow players will follow. For a lot of players, just looking after the place in a responsible manner is more than enough of a relationship. Like all places in the internet, NationStates has a lot of lurkers.

4 C: What's your stance on puppet nations, inside and outside the region?

I don't have a problem with players having puppets, both inside and outside the region. Having only one nation ever is like demanding that someone only ever try one flavour of ice cream. The nation simulation experience and subsequent roleplaying is best realized by exploring different facets of that experience. Puppetry only becomes a problem when players attempt to unfairly influence others with teams of puppets (either by force of nations in a military RP or political yes-nations in diplomacy/elections) or by illegal WA multying. The only other unacceptable instance would be those puppet dump regions, piling up puppets as high as they can just to have the biggest region in the world.

5. You were in the WA at one very short point; from what it looks like from the 24th of October 2005 up until January 30th 2006. Why the sudden change of heart?

The system sometimes has problems keeping exact records on older nations, owing to the amount of changes in the system, including how many forums NationStates has gone through over the years. I was actually in the UN (WA predecessor) starting in December 2002, serving as Wysteria's first delegate until I resigned from the UN in January 2006. At that time, Flamebaittrolls was elected as the delegate and I left the UN to make the transition smoother for the new UN boss. My current WA nation is Ummagumma, allowing me to participate in discussing WA resolutions more as a fellow nation instead of a founder, but the status of Ummagumma as my puppet is openly acknowledged.

We here at NS Confidential are not sure what exactly makes this the worst attempt at Adspam ever .. if not the ridiculous repetition and poor spelling, then definitely the fact that the advertisement is directed towards the game-that-shall-not-be-named.

"Asdddddddddwwwwwwwwe" recently posted this spam across Feeders on their Regional Message Boards. The question remains whether this incident may spark change and reform in regards to Adspam in GCRs. The most recent discussion on Adspam in Game-Created Regions stalled in late October.

He posted a similar message on some of the UCRs too.

Most obnoxious though? That one "defender", AmazingNationOfJz, had a much longer one "from" TBR that he spammed for quite a bit on multiple RMBs. I'd say that might take the cake, though I suppose it's not really an ad, just a bit of fake propaganda.
