A Lecture: In The Name of John Ashcroft Land

Postby Tim-Opolis » Mon Sep 16, 2013 1:18 pm

In the Name of John Ashcroft Land

On April 29 2003, Regional Controls were added to NationStates. WA Delegates gained ultimate power over their respective regions and The Rejected Realms was erected to purpose the role of a place for the Broken and the Battleborne.

With these responsibilities and the privilege of power came exploitation of these responsibilities, conquests for glory and the pursuit of domination. Where there is power, there are those who wish only to abuse this power. Then came The Farkers and the so-called “French Pirates”, The Driftwood Gang and so forth – the lulzy bastards, the fun-havers and the opportunitists. These groups organized however and they sought great political domination, only to be challenged by a rising imperialist foe called The Atlantic Alliance.

As the world was left in a pretty cool state of insanity and an pretty well known hero rose in defense of those that these invaders played around with. Bathed in the light of his table lamp, the very fabric of lulz itself, this hero led his equals into a great battle for what was fun, for what was enjoyable and for what was totally radical. In the name of our fun, our glory and politicking, these badasses strutted.

This hero's names is quite well known, he is John Ashcroft Land. Known to history itself; like all of us unfortunately might end up being, his name emblazened the glorious sky. But what motivated this hero remains today, what brought his to the cause and what gave him the care to stay up, the might and the intense gaze to fight for funzies will forever remain while there is power to be casually taken by the Raiders in this game.

The highest authority of The Defender World is not Saint Unibot; the highest authority is not I, nor you or any one individual or any of us for that matter.

It is the man himself, John Ashcroft Land.

The spirit of lulzfending, the ammo that fills the combat shotgun, the relaxation, the lack of moral duty that shines in all of our computer screens when the night is darkest.

I wrote in my fake manifesto that we were governed by a higher need for the fun of R/D, this was no false pretense. We are all carriers of this torch of lulz; upholding the belief that Nationstates is a game and we'll have some good old fashioned fun in the playing of it. Likewise, as a LulzFenda, my serious duty is to take care and service my growing need to infiltrate Imperialist regions.

I can attest to this: the JAL guides us not to be all we should be, but be all we care to be.

Those first defenders clicked on their computer screens knowing that this conflict would continue beyond their time, and foresaw that nerds just like them would be doing it a decade later

Remember John Ashcroft Land, because he will not forget you.

It would be easier just to incorporate a "Grief Region" button, so you wouldn't even need to make the effort to do the actual raiding. Players could just bounce from region to region and destroy everyone else's efforts at will, without even bothering about WA status. Wouldn't that be nice. -Frisbeeteria

The only thing I can think of while reading this is how far I'd be in this game if I didn't spend over a year stagnating in JAL's regions like TIL and Exshaw :p

I'd like to see more about your passionate love for Durk.

Back in the day, I used to swap telegrams with Bleasdale. They were an excellent source for invader intelligence and like many of the Driftwood Gang, very diplomatic.
