Why so much noise? TSP will recover from this, like always.

The whole point of the noise is to speed up that process.
Never underestimate the power of cynicism, pessimism and negativity to prevent terrible things from happening. Only idealists try to build the future on a mountain of bodies.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.

That's not quite how it was expressed in the official press release...

Grazie. Together, we must show that Esquarium and The South Pacific can co-operate. In exchange, all nations in The South Pacific, on chat will be given honorary OP status (non-members usually get +v, Esquarium members +o, and bots neither).

Canada's government and citizens would like to express their grave concerns over the abandonment of constitutional rule by Milograd and his supporters. The alleged need to overthrow an entrenched oligarchy does not in any way excuse the departure from consensus rule, particularly when that system was open enough to allow Milograd to take the delegacy in the first place.

We particularly condemn the illegal expulsion of natives from The South Pacific. Our condolences go out to them, and to any other citizens who have been distressed by recent events.

Canada continues to recognize the pre-existing democratically elected officers as the rightful government of The South Pacific, and would like to offer diplomatic support in helping them return to power.

We would also welcome any refugees who may feel that The South Pacific is no longer safe, or have been ejected due to the current regime.

Our best wishes go to all the member nations of The South Pacific, and our hope that you can speedily return to a stable and legitimate state of government.

A Statement on the Coup in The South Pacific

Two updates ago, Milograd, the Delegate of The South Pacific, chose to go rogue. He removed the link to the regional forum from the World Factbook Entry, proceeded to purge hundreds of nations from the region, and requested assistance to prolong his coup from foreign military forces. Milograd's actions appear to have a muddled intent that does not and cannot in any way justify the terrorism and griefing of The South Pacific. Aside from that, Milograd's actions mean that he betrayed the trust of the region that elected him to their most prestigious position, a region that he claims to call his home.

Spiritus strongly condemns and refuses to recognize the rogue regime of Milograd, and will vehemently oppose his reign of terror against the natives of The South Pacific.

We pledge support from the Spiritus Defense Force, as well as whatever diplomatic support we are able to provide, to the legitimate government of The South Pacific.

May TSP be free again,

Tim Locksley-Stark
President of Spiritus

Statement on The South Pacific Coup

The East Pacific has been both troubled and concerned over the news of the legitimately-elected delegate, Milograd, going rogue and operating independently of the recognized government of The South Pacific.

The East Pacific stands resolved: order must be restored in The South Pacific. Citing feeder unity and past positive relationships between our two regions, we wish to aid our fellow region to the South in obtaining order. This may include, but is not limited to, working with other regions to restore the government by force, and assisting natives during these perilous times.

The region to the east will act on its best conscience, and reserves the right to adjust its stance as the situation changes. But rest assured, our motives will be focused on what we perceive to be the best interest of a region which we consider close friends and allies.

Hail to the Sovereign East.

Statement on the events in The South Pacific

It has come to the attention of Sovereign Confederation that Milograd, the elected delegate of The South Pacific, has broken from the Coalition Government of The South Pacific and conducted a regional purge. At the time of this writing, Milograd has indicated that he was motivated to take these actions ‘to protest injustice’ and to draw attention to issues with influence accumulation that uniquely affect GCRs.

We have full confidence that the citizens of The South Pacific can handle this affair, and we applaud their efforts in maintaining continuity of government and community during these trying times.

We look forward to seeing an end to this conflict, and hope to see a swift and peaceful end to hostilities within The South Pacific.

Signed,

Astarial, Secretary General of Sovereign Confederation

Heh. That is nice, but can you please remind me why I should care, again? I just spent several seconds writing a telegram that all 4,500 nations in the region will receive immediately, and it shall appear on top of your message. If anyone tries to counter these efforts, I will repeat the process. You are wasting your time and, from my perspective, it is enjoyable to watch you do so.

I will repeat the process ad nauseum if I have to, and you will lose.

Honor is one of the attributes necessary for a region to thrive. Players of this game must honor the laws of the region, their political processes, their political opponents, even their enemies and it is only without the presence of honor that this game becomes a nightmare. Today, we have seen the absence of honor and its effects in the region of The South Pacific. Earlier Milograd, delegate of the region, decided that power was more important than honor as he overthrew the legitimate government with the help of outside forces. This is an act that cannot be allowed to stand, and all regions in NationStates should condemn it.

It is the responsibility of every region to stand up to this thug who parades as a leader and support the legitimate government of The South Pacific and the people in any way that is possible. We must not let this game devolve into a treacherous, vile environment that Milograd has moved The South Pacific towards, and so today I call on our allies, our enemies, and regions throughout the world of NationStates to stand with us against this vile thuggery and help the government regain their place in the region. Ainur will be supplying any type of support it can for this cause, and we hope other regions will join us in this.

I like political intrigue. It's fun. I could get behind some sneaky machinations, and I could get behind an open, shameless power grab. I could. Just for fun, though I could also justify it IC.

But this? This is stupid. This is hard to watch. I am literally embarrassed for Milograd because he is just so bad at this. I'm just sad I'm no longer able to post on the regional board. I didn't even get a chance to really start some proper mockery.

Edit: The attempted illusion of unity is just sad. I mean. Just. I joined less than a week ago and I could still make a pretty good list about everything he's doing wrong, and I'm not talking about morality here.

And he played his hand waaay to early again. He should have played it closer to the update, to violate his 'no more ejections' rule.

Ya know.... it takes balls to lead a coup solely by one's self and go against the grain of an entire community. When you do things by yourself, it's much, much harder. I'm not condoning his actions; I'm just saying that it's a lot harder than it looks.

I never said it doesn't take balls, or that it was easy. Not sure why you're quoting me here.

As everyone seems to be posting statements... *puts on Viking helmet*

Image

Balder Ministry of Foreign Affairs

In a statement to the people of Balder yesterday, Her Nordic Majesty Rach I said the following:

We will do whatever we can to ensure that the removal of Milograd and the transition to a new delegate of their choosing happens as soon as possible. Balder will use both it's military and diplomatic clout to ensure that this happens and that those responsible are brought to justice.

Balder won't rest until it has done whatever it can, to the best of our abilities, to ensure the legitimate Government of TSP, as vested in the Cabinet and admins of the region, regain control of the region.

*takes off Viking helmet and puts on LKE hat*

As we demonstrated with our participation in the attempted liberation of The South Pacific yesterday, the LKE stands by the legitimate Government of TSP and will use whatever military and diplomatic resources at our disposal to help them regain the region from the rogue Delegate Milograd.
