Kantrias - The Gavel and the Sword

Banner made by the excellent Eliora Lockwood, Queen of Kantrias

The Kingdom of Kantrias

The Kingdom of Kantrias is a brand new region opened to the public one week ago, with recruiting beginning within a few hours of that. And now, within that span of time, it has gone from one nation - the Founder - to 62 nations. An explosive growth curve, when considering only one person has actually been recruiting during this time.

If you are looking for an active and dynamic region, then Kantrias is the place for you to do it. We have an active cultural community already, complete with clubs and newspapers, and we'll only grow more active with time, especially as more people join the region. And if you're looking for an active political life, we have that too. Already, the Popular Assembly is hard at work writing the Constitution of Kantrias, and the sooner you join, the more likely you'll be able to make your mark on the region's governmental system!

Kantrias's government will be some variation on a Constitutional Monarchy, with the King being yours truly, and an elected and powerful Senate to serve the interests of the people. The exact powers and balance and organization of these two entities, and the High Tribunal of Kantrias is, of course, still being considered.

The Gavel and the Sword of Kantrias represents the two ideal things the modern Nation-State should always provide to its people - Law and Order (the Gavel) and military protection from outside threats (the Sword). However, it also represents the values of Kantrias - Orderly, Stable Democratic Rule at home and a Strong, Assertive and Aggressive if need be Foreign Policy.

If any of this interests you, or you want to find out more details, you may telegram this nation, you may ask questions here, or you may go to the region itself Kantrias and check things our even check out The Regional Forums at: z13.invisionfree.invalid.com/Kantrias

Never underestimate the power of cynicism, pessimism and negativity to prevent terrible things from happening. Only idealists try to build the future on a mountain of bodies.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.

I believe I am allowed to bump this once every 24 hours?

From the guide:
Bumping
Threads in the Gameplay forum should not be bumped unless at least 24 hour have passed since the previous post in them. If a thread is bumped too often, it may be locked. If it doesn't get any interest, no-one is interested.

What makes this region any more likely to succeed than your last project?

Because it takes into account what I learned from the mistakes I made last time - because I made mistakes from the word go, with W&H.

Its also a differant region from the ground up, in many, many ways.

Plus, I'm not opening the region to the public right before the Summer slump starts.

This looks pretty cool. I am looking forward to seeing more out of this project however I think you should start looking at your region as a region community rather than a project if your not already.

Anyway, love the banner and purple.

Imperialist, once we get our Constitution passed and we can devote energy to training a military.

Kantrias has now managed to pass its Constitution, and Senate Elections are beginning.

Professional Prognosticators predict that the primary axis of the Elections will be the fight between the Royalist Conservative Party of Kantrias, and the other party, known as the Unnamed Party, with its primary unifying factor right now being they don't like the CPK. Independant runs are possible, but their likliehood is unknown.

For those who are interested, I include a full text of the Kantrian Constitution.

To provide for the General Order, Stability and Good Governance of Kantrias, we the People of Kantrias do hereby enshrine this document as the Constitution of Kantrias

The Iron Heel of Democracy!

>November 10, 2012

In the last announcement, there was a mention of the passage of the Constitution, and the oncoming Senate elections. Well, as of earlier today, the Senate Elections are complete.

With five candidates competing for three seats, things got heated, quickly. Events saw The Unamed Party become 'The Autonomous Union', a semi-populist party lacking much of a defined core, and the rise of a half-joking, half serious party known as 'The Insanity Party', founded by Roman Pearce and soon after Joined by Caldemar, who departed The Autonomous Union after merging his own Progressive Party with it. The Conservative Party and The Autonomous Union then, on the night of November 5th, engaged in a series of bitter partisan battles that quickly rose past pettiness to personal attacks and all the to the point of conspiracy theories on both sides, both inside and outside of campagining threads and the newspapers.

Image
Yea, it looked something like this

The 'Night of Vitriol', as it has come to be known, got so bad that numerous people on both sides of the disputes were worried for the future of the region. The King temporarily disbanded all the parties, which allowed things to calm down.

At a loss to explain what happened and why, he would later describe it, to people who had been asleep during the events,
The whole region lost its collective mind for about five hours last night.
The Night saw the collapse of The Autonomous Union, the departure from the region of its Chairman, WTHAS - also known as People United Together, in some places - who was blamed by several people as the root cause of the escalation, the departure from the CPK of its founder, Azawd, though he remained in the race as an independant, and the formation of the Moderate Party of Kantrias from TAU's ashes.

The remaining campaign has been much more civil, and the main issues have been the possibility of granting the King some kind of Emergency powers, championed by Ice, and a staunch opposition to that, from figures like Jimothy Wright.

The elections finally ended in victory for Ice, Jimothy Wright, and Azawd each with five votes, with Roman Pearce a close second with 4. Christopher Bishop got 1.

The new Senate's first order of business is approving - or disapproving - the King's nominees for the Ministries and the High Tribunal.

Culture - Eliora Lockwood
Interior - Caldemar
War - Christopher Bishop
Foreign Affairs - Josh Sebastian

And Azawd is the nominee for the High Tribunal.
