Does anyone have a decent list of regions that used to be in the FRA but left for one reason or another? I know United Kingdom and Eastern Isles of Dharma were in the FRA at one point.

Aside from Maxtopia, who was the first nation?

Nobody but Max would know, and he says he doesn't remember. It was almost certainly an admin puppet back in the alpha and beta testing stage. I've done some beta testing for [violet] in a temporary test environment, and have created and deleted nations with great abandon. I couldn't tell you their names a day later, much less 11 years later.

As for who was the first non-admin, non-testing player nation, no one has ever provided a satisfactory answer. I remember seeing that non-answer when it was asked in 2004. I doubt anyone's memory has significantly improved since then.

We used to, but it is terribly out of date now. I'm sure the info is in the assembly archives, but no one has bothered to update the list you are interested in :P

We know that in the test run, there were at least 16 nations in 3 regions. Those nations included: Maxtopia, Wayne, South-southwest, New Zealand and Despoto.

I've heard there's an Australian author who was pretty involved with the game in the early days.

I wouldn't be surprised, but I also suspect, much like Max, that they very intentionally keep their involvement on the very down-low.

I can tell you that a few years ago we had somebody claim to be a particular US Senator in an appeal of his WA ejection. But suffice to say, the odds of that were highly unlikely, because the nations he was complaining were unfairly ejected had political views and such that NO politician in the US would want associated with their name. :P

He quietly went away when told in no uncertain terms that a) his political career had no bearing on the fact he had broken the rules, and b) if he really wanted to bring his political position into it, that we would be required to confirm through official channels (IE: contacting the senator's office via easily-accessible contact information on their website) that he was who he claimed he was. :P

It's unlikely you've ever heard of 'Arminkuren' but since I have half a mind to re-found, I wrote up a little history that you can read here. Any comments, criticism or enlightenment is greatly appreciated, I'll probably re-found in a couple days and it will be the best region eva!!! I would particularly like to know who 'Unigoth' was, as his nation CTE'd in July this year. I suspect he was a raider, but if anyone knows more feel free to say.

I have to wonder:

Was there something that spurred the "no help with homework" rule?

No particular incident. There are a few considerations, just a couple off the top of my head:

1. Online 'help' with homework has a high risk of devolving into cheating: simply providing answers. Sometimes the wrong ones just for malicious reasons, which then triggers all sorts of problems on the site.
2. Homework can be lots of subjects, and is typically wildly off-topic for NS (tends to be about nations, politics, news items. There's a limited range, even in NSG). It's not even debating a topic.
3. Interest in homework topics is limited, typically limited to just the person who posted the thread.
4. Expect many topics. And them getting bumped a lot, cause by the time people are desperate enough to post a homework topic on a site not suited for it they just want an answer to something ASAP.
5. There are better places to get real help with homework, like sites devoted to that.
6. If you need information, use your textbook or google. The NS forum isn't an alternative for doing your own research.
7. A number of Mods are teachers in RL and really don't like kids cheating on their homework.

Once upon a time in an IRC chatroom two prominent players discovered that one was the other's Latin Teacher when the student player began telling the tale of how difficult he was finding the class.

Does anyone have the 'founding' dates of the GCRs?
Like, I know The Pacific was the first region. When did the other Pacifics come in, and the Sinkers? And the Warzones?

I'm pretty sure Blader and Osiris came into being on October 19th 2011 IIRC. I only remember this because I share the same birthday (not the year of course :P )

I don't know the exact date(s), but the East, West, North and South Pacifics were added starting in early 2003.

'Bout all I know, too. The Pacific was the ONLY feeder originally, but by the time I joined in March 2003 the other four had been added. I think The Rejected Realms was added at the same time regional controls (and thus the power to kick people out of a region) were added. Not sure when Lazarus came about, either.

But The East Pacific was added later than the other feeders, right? At least it's the only feeder I've heard of where a group of people from elsewhere in NS went in and took the delegacy just after it was founded.

I believe that's correct.

The East Pacific was the youngest of the pacifics and it was founded by invaders of the Atlantic Alliance.

TEP is technically a user-created region, it was founded by a user (before founders had powers) and then turned into a feeder by admin.

The East Pacific and The North Pacific start with a capital 'T' but the Pacific, the South Pacific and the West Pacific start with a lowercase 't'. That supports the fact the pacifics were founded by different people at different times.

I believe the order of the GCRs was Testregionia and TP in 2002. TNP, TSP, TWP, TEP, then TRR in 2003. Lazarus I'm not sure of the exact date, I believe either late 2003 or 2004. And then Osiris and Balder in 2011. And now 'Isis' in 2014.

You know, GCRs should stop leaving Testregionia out of pan-GCR conferences. :P
