Some astute observers may have realized that El Wu had no post marking the region’s 18th birthday. It should be stated for the record that Lone Wolves United had dozens of drafts and exercised a miraculous degree of maturity and self restraint in not publishing any of them.

The Grey LWUardens claim a historic victory in The Realm of Aussies

As we once again claim a historic victory over the darkspawn hordes, I think back to the 28th Superbowl. There’s no coach and quarterback combination I can think of to better summarise our magnificent efforts other than Jim Kelly and Marv Levy. Through sheer grit and determination, they successfully made it to no less than four superbowls in a row. Weaker teams wouldn’t have made it to the superbowl, and weaker factions wouldn’t have shown up to update. But we did.


Nobody has a harder job in NationStates than defenders. Nobody works as hard as us to just be there, night after night, to ensure that liberation and injunction WASC proposals can be submitted just hours after raiders take a region. Our contributions to the safety of NationStates are timeless, and natives everywhere fondly remember what we once were. When I look out across our assembled ranks, and try to remember the names of half of our members, I know that the other half will be celebrated forever for our collective achievements.


I’ve spent a large part of the last few years malding about the state of defending. Too many people are putting their ego before their willingness to do what I tell them to do. Too many people are fighting in the back-channels, and sometimes, this fighting even spreads into the back-channels that I have access to. I’d like to take a stand now, and say that the way that you treat each other is thoroughly inappropriate. You will never, ever see me publicly criticize another defender for a mistake, such as how Bormiar tried to defend tonight while logged into the wrong nation.


And now, we stand together, basking in the warm glow of victory. We were tested, violently, and none of us like each other anymore, but the only thing that matters is the big, juicy, delectably sweet and salty W that we all fought so hard for. This was a victory for all of us, and we should all be recognised, and I make the following toasts. To Balder, for promising to show up. To the South Pacific, for their indispensable diplomatic assistance. To the North Pacific, for being willing to be in Libcord with the rest of us, and to 10000 Islands, for not being willing, but still helping from the outside anyway. To the Rejected Realms, for writing so much helpful commentary on our efforts, and to Europeia, for passing a copy of that commentary along to me. Finally, I’d like to give a special shout-out to the League, who contributed all of the participating updaters.


I know I’ve spent a lot of time in the LWU VC lately, but this time it’s for real. Daddy’s home, and he brought cigarettes for everyone.
