The simple fact that this is a "Security Council" proposal is mind-blowing. Celebrating a day in a calendar for the sake of its own existance should be a private matter for those observing said calendar. Let us not impose ourseleves on others, and let us not mistake religion with security again. Don't take part in setting up bad precedents. Vote Against. Thank you.

So, you’re voting to celebrate a corrective mechanism for a human construct? Interesting.

C'mon, this is likely written by AI

Postby Simone Republic » Fri Mar 01, 2024 2:37 am

There's a 90%+ chance that this was written with AI, as I tested it on GPTzero.me and other mechanisms. (Because the text is short, some AI detection engines are throwing up 85-90% chances). To be frank, there's not a snowball's chance in hell that I won't try to defeat or repeal this.

Are we supposed to be dancing to the gods or something?
Leap day is just created to make up the extra minute we lose past 23:59 every day. That is all. Nothing extraordinary.

Office of the President of Sophia & Office of the Delegate of Sparkalia
WORLD ASSEMBLY VOTING RECOMMENDATION

Security Council: A Celebration of Exceptional Rarity (Declaration; Declare), by Piura

Recommendation: FOR

Rationale: What this resolution says in six paragraphs, we can summarise in sixteen words: Leap Day is unusual; it only happens once every four years; and we should cherish it. While February 29th is not a landmark event in NationStates history as such, it as a date is rare enough - and Piura, the author, suggests that we celebrate it with the reciprocal level of fun - that we believe it is worthy of commemoration via a Declaration.

There has been some controversy surrounding the use of AI text generators in writing the proposal. However, we accept that Piura is not the most vocal or outspoken player and their nation is heavily themed on a Peruvian region. Should their proposal be repealed and they choose to redraft it, we urge them to write from the heart - and, if time allows, to look into events that may have happened on the six Leap Days that NationStates has previously gone through.

~~~~~~~~~~
This recommendation was written by Tinhampton, the President of Sophia. Sparkalia concurs. If you liked this, please upvote our recommendation dispatch here!
This resolution will be at vote between the major updates of February 29th 2024 and March 4th 2024.
This recommendation was jointly issued between Sophia and Sparkalia. This does not mean that the President's opinion of this resolution was influenced by what Sparkalia believes. Under the Constitution, the President must always cast their vote in line with the interests of Sophia, not some other region; this recommendation reflects the sincere beliefs of all regions involved.
This is unusual for it to be a SC resolution and not a GA one, but it's an unusual day. It's no surprise that the resolution will be unusual as well, so I voted for.
I believe it will get defeated. Most major delegates are voting against it, which would be justified considering it is most definitely AI-generated.
Like a lot of other people, I ran it through a few detectors, and it came back 82-87%. I think the author has promise, but I would discourage the use of an AI tool instead of using one's actual ability.
Ehhh, it's still super close to really say, like the difference in votes right now is incredibly small..and there's still 2 days left of voting, so it could definitely go either way.
Personally, I'm not a fan of it for reasons that were mentioned...mainly because 4 years, while a long time in NS time, is not what I'd consider "exceptionally rare." Though the AI allegations are also always a concern as well.
Lodging my vote for the resolution. it's just good.
  • It's generally a rare event, only as often as the summer games of the Olympics.
  • It lets people enjoy a day of fun throughout the year without needing to connect themselves to love.
  • Will be generally good fun anyways.
so for this, I would like the author to feel pride in their accomplishment of bringing a good idea to the council. If this doesn't pass then it would probably be due to the fact that it's in the security council.
It's AI generated, I recommend you change that to an against vote.
Because the text is so short, It's not completely 100% definitive, however I would definitely say it's AI written and not a human, especially with the words used by a first-time author.
The habit of the SC in the last few years is to write and even pass a resolution about every single official event on the site. It's not much of a leap for that to translate to literally just passing stuff on leap days.
While she had no regrets about throwing the lever to douse her husband's mistress in molten gold, Blanche did feel a pang of conscience for the innocent bystanders whose proximity had caused them to suffer gilt by association.
It wasn't common sense that prevailed... If just one more 200+ endorsement delegate had voted FOR in first few days this was at vote, it would been given the momentum to have passed. I've never seen such a disparity between individual votes and large delegate votes before.
