[PASSED] Commend Quebecshire

Postby Tim Stark » Thu Oct 05, 2023 2:09 pm

This Security Council,

Conditioned to describing the legends of actors and leaders, whose careful diligence, prudent foresight, or steadfast integrity define the paths most traveled by,

Overtly inspired by the gall of those who brazenly defy what is given, instead to blazing a path of unmatched temerity and resolve, taking legacies of misfortune and shaping them into legends of triumph,

Presenting the tale of Quebecshire (Quebec), whose superlative role in modern defending has helped define the faction. Across 12,000 operations, Quebec has stood against insurmountable odds and led indomitable coalitions, displaying unrelenting pressure against their enemies, buoying defenderdom through its lowest points and elevating it in its greatest moments,

Exuberant at Quebec’s rise to the highest echelons of defending in 2021, distinguishing themselves ever since in all aspects of military operations including:.
  • amplifying a surging defender faction in record-breaking liberations such as China and Trovons
  • notably adding their strategic expertise and vigor to a landscape dominated by resurgent foes in 2022 onwards, leading a force of natives and defenders in 2022’s capstone liberation in New Westphalia, and helping to marshall over a hundred liberators to overcome massive raider forces in the liberations of South Pacific and Far East Oriental Federation in 2023, and
  • distinguishing themselves as a force of speed and precision to be reliant upon, as one of the most committed contributors from The League in all-but stamping out tag raiding by 2023,

Saluting Quebec’s commitment to stamping out the forces of evil, going as far as to lead and participate in successful counter-invasion operations including against vulnerable invader holdfast Islamic States, and amassing a record-breaking league of over 200 defenders and independents to raze the raider-aligned frontier of Solidarity.

Emphasizing Quebec’s prowess in cultivating a community, demonstrated by the renaissance of The League and Concord (TL/C), a bi-regional community Quebec helped found. Struggling with a dysfunctional system and a difficult history, Quebec would display their ability to plan and execute often difficult but necessary decisions in tearing down the old dysfunctional government and establishing the Consulate and Council system that governs TL/C today,

Electrified by Quebec’s seamless relocation of TL/C’s community in an astonishingly bold and successful bid to realize a new era, re-establishing recruitment and integration culture to bring the community past its former peak only two months after the move. They would establish the League Defense Forces (LDF), which under Quebec’s leadership has cemented itself as a leading military eventually and refounded Concord, a region occupied by The League’s longtime enemies and fascists that Quebec incorporated into the League and developed into one of the largest Frontiers in the world,

Taking note of TL/C’s rise as a core pillar of modern defenderdom, and its expansive efforts to further the Defenderdom region umbrella. Quebec’s incredible networking ability and diplomatic tact brought TL/C closer to defenders, establishing ties that would propel TL/C’s growth as a defender mainstay. Quebec would then leverage their diplomatic clout in intrepid moves that culminated in treaties like:
  • the Ampez-Weisshaupt Compact with the Order of the Grey Wardens (TGW), signifying the connection of two military giants and codified TGW’s first diplomatic steps,
  • the Treaty of Morya with Europeia, which heralded a new era of cooperation between Europeia and defenders resulting in Europeia’s historic transition to defenderdom, and
  • the Treaty of Savotta and Ribe with Balder, a watershed agreement that have helped developed both regions and culminated in cooperation through crises like the plot to overthrow Balder’s government known as Operation Ragnarok,

Expressing awe at Quebec’s unmatched utilization of this council, adding their name to a record 22 resolutions that have served as incredible odes and safeguards to regional sovereignty, including:
  • major commendations of defender titans like Tim-Opolis and Numero Capitan, whose legacies were undoubtedly earthshaking yet controversial, and guided by Quebec’s excellent composition and political direction,
  • apt usage of the newly-created Injunctions to assist in the speedy protection of vulnerable frontiers such as Canada, the first ever Injunction passed,
  • Liberations of regions such as England and Magna Aurea, securing them from unsavory border control measures by their would-be destroyers.

Deeply impressed by Quebec’s fiery aura, their legacy of unwavering vigilance, and persistence in fighting evil; their light an exemplar of the ideals of this council, their story an inspiration to those who fight alongside them and, hopefully, to those who come after,

Hereby Commends Quebecshire.

The Security Council,

Certain that few take matters into their own hands in advancing interregional cooperation in thwarting destructive actors with the same efficacy and tenacity as [nation=Quebecshire] (Quebec),

Observing Quebec’s founding role in The League and Concord’s (TL/C) community since its beginnings as The League of Conservative Nations (LCN). Through this role Quebec would display their ability to plan and execute often difficult but necessary decisions such abolishing and re-writing the old dysfunctional, democratic constitution in favor of a more effective Consulate and Council system. These continue to govern TL/C today and, coupled with Quebecshire's mentoring of leaders like Spode Humbled Minions and Creeperopolis, succeeded in energizing and creating a base for the LCN’s future growth,

Praising Quebec’s masterful facilitation of the LCN’s introduction to the wider diplomatic sphere in 2021 by:
  • escaping the LCN’s difficult past with the transition of its community to its current home of The League (TL) in a bid to fully realize a new era; executing this in a shockingly seamless move which saw TL surpass its previous population peak in a short two months,
  • avidly initiating connections with regions like The South Pacific and The Order of the Grey Wardens (TGW), which would prove fruitful in coordinating future military operations, cultural events, and further diplomatic ties that highlighted the TL’s growing place at the forefront of defending,
  • notably creating the League Defense Forces (LDF) and cementing it as a dominant force for regional sovereignty, whipping its ranks into one of the leading armies in the liberations of Trovons and China at an impressive 15-20 consistent liberators in its first year,

Dazzled that Quebec didn’t stop there, cementing The League as a clear force in defenderdom and capitalizing on its previous diplomacy by:
  • seeing through and negotiating the Ampez–Weisshaupt Compact with TL’s foundational ally in TGW, which upheld the impressive military growth and partnership between the two in TGW’s first step into codified diplomatic relations,
  • extending defenderdom’s relations with Europeia in the Treaty of Morya, strengthening a key relationship that would see a new era of cooperation between Europeia and defenders, led by TL and Quebec’s growing position as a staple of defender relations, and
  • establishing relations with Balder in the Treaty of Savotta and Ribe, a watershed agreement which inaugurated an important partnership that developed into a mutually beneficial relationship for both regions’ futures, cooperating through infrastructure development and crises like the plot to overthrow Balder’s government known as Operation Ragnarok,

Triumphant at Quebec’s astounding work in the development of Concord, liberating it from the Confederacy of Layem and refounding it under TL’s banner. Quebec quickly grew it into a bustling region in its own right, leading the conception of its Domestic Security Bureau, coordinating a smooth transition with well-enforced endorsement caps, surveying of suspicious activity, and developing an impressive native recruitment culture that is nearly unrivaled in the growth it has helped Concord accomplish on its rise to one of the world's largest regions,

Hailing Quebec’s astounding operational ability, rising to the highest echelon of defending across over 12,000 operations and rising to the occasion in monumental efforts like the liberation of New Westphalia, where they coordinated with natives and allies to summon and lead a massive united front featuring an astonishing 36 LDFers in the capstone liberation of 2022, and the swift liberation of South Pacific in 2023, in which over a hundred liberators were quickly mobilized in large part by Quebec to bring down a massive raider coalition’s desecration of a historic region,

Enamored by Quebec’s incredible utilization of this council to safeguard regional sovereignty, authoring or co-authoring 22 resolutions, penning crucial legislation and incredible odes alike including:
  • several liberations including those of England and Equestria, which are still in place for the safety of their native communities and make efforts to detail regional history,
  • commendations of defender titans like Tim-Opolis and a Leaf on the Wind, bringing light to the souls who guide our world through the darkness, and
  • the Injunction of Canada, the first Injunction passed by this council which was quickly maneuvered to stem efforts by occupying invaders to conquer a historic region,
[/list][/list]

Highlighting that, at the passage of this resolution, Quebecshire's 20 primary authorships is the most accumulated by any Security Council author in the history of this body,

Letting it be known that Quebec’s many accolades are an exemplar of the ideals and goals of this council, failing not in their fiery effervescence, diplomacy, and vigilance in purging evil where found, and time and time again proving their mastery in both war and peace,

Hereby Commends Quebecshire.

Co-Authored by Westinor and Ikania

While I am unfortunately unable to update, given that I have taken the bold mantle of a WA Delegacy, I see it imperative to continue to show solidarity with my defender colleagues. One of these paths is involvement in The World Assembly's votes and proposals, which is admittedly something I give less care for than I should. However, in the case of this proposal, significant time has been spent working on a draft that details the accomplishments of the nominated nation. Admittedly, this is probably going to be a divisive one in some spheres, including some circles of our faction. Quebecshire often times plays by the beat of his own drum, one which can set a contrary tempo to the rhythms of others. However, I think the player's accomplishments are so plentiful that there is no doubt a commendation is justified and proper at this point. Quebecshire's drive and success in advancing the ideals of regional sovereignty and the hope of a post-griefer world is worth applauding and recognizing.

Additionally, some of the details in this proposal are currently in a "soon to be true" form. Specifically, the authorship clause is currently written with numbers made under assumption of Commend Spode Humbled Minions passing.

Like him or hate him, Quebec is an incredible worker and an effective leader. I’m not sure I’ve seen someone more able to bring together a team of people and both lead and enable them the same way Quebec has. Thanks for carrying my ass when I’m on the ground :3

I think it's unnecessary to use region tags for The League twice. In any case, support in principle; will give a closer look to the draft itself in the next few days.

Oh, yeah didn't realize we had a second region tag in there. I'll adjust that in my next round of edits, but thank you for the initial support!

Honestly I can’t think of any currently active players who would deserve a commendation more than Quebec, the amount of effort, time and heart blood he has and continues to pour into everything he sets out to do is admirable in too many ways that I could put them into words. Anyone who can’t see what an incredibly capable leader, not only of his region but also of his entire faction he is must undoubtedly be a fool. I’m really happy to see this finally happening, it’s long due and very very deserved.

EDIT: On an OOC note, a bit offensive to mention Layem by name in a draft yet exclude invaders. Might be a good move to cut that out.

As promised, though perhaps a bit quicker than I anticipated.

Tim Stark wrote:The Security Council,

Certain that few take matters into their own hands in advancing interregional cooperation in thwarting destructive actors with the same efficacy and tenacity as [nation=Quebecshire] (Quebec),

This is ~fine~, but is there not some better way to capture the Quebecshirian ethos than this? I get that being anti-raider is a big part of Q, his rhetoric and his actions, but I don't think it does a great job of capturing the flavor of Q.

Tim Stark wrote:Observing Quebec’s founding role in The League and Concord’s (TL/C) community since its beginnings as The League of Conservative Nations (LCN).

A couple of grammatical notes:
  1. You could probably use a comma after "role".
  2. I would put "the" in place of "a" before "more effective....". What makes this noteworthy is its uniqueness. If it's not unique, then it's not noteworthy and tbh, just passing it off as a major constitutional reform would probably be best.
  3. I would probably put something like "bodies" after "These" in the next sentence. That will make it clearer precisely what you're referring to.

Tim Stark wrote:Praising Quebec’s masterful facilitation of the LCN’s introduction to the wider diplomatic sphere in 2021 by:

Few things with this one. First, it's a list, and it should feel "sequential" in a way. This isn't.

Some suggestions:
  1. In place of the semicolon in the 'escaping' clause, put an "and". It gives a connection in a way a semicolon just doesn't.
  2. Is "avidly" the best word here? I'm not sure, but there has to be something better. Also, because this is a list, I would place an "and" after "defending".
  3. You can drop the "notably" in the LDF clause. It's clear it's notable if it's being mentioned and given the emphasis on R/D throughout this, it won't be a surprise (or, rather, shouldn't be) to the reader that Q created an R/D org.

Tim Stark wrote:Dazzled that Quebec didn’t stop there, cementing The League as a clear force in defenderdom and capitalizing on its previous diplomacy by:

This is generally alright, but I'd soften the angle. Don't just have it be about how Q can play nice with his friends because, well, we know that. I think this is more a narrative about Q's personal charm offensive that brought Euro (and Balder-ish) into the defender fold. What I glean from this, and I'm playing devil's advocate intentionally here, is that "these were regions in the sphere already and wow, would you look at that, Q was able to make friends". None of these, save for maybe TGW but I wouldn't be able to tell you, were exactly the most foregone of conclusions when Q stepped on the world stage, and while definitely the scene has changed, I don't think that necessarily means that we should be commending Q for just being a defender who does things with, by, and for defenders--he's more than that and the authors know it. If not, there are plenty of independents who could be talked to.

Also, I don't love referring to TGW as TL's "foundational ally", not because it isn't true, but because I'd try to treat it more objectively as just, well, The Order of the Grey Wardens.

Tim Stark wrote:Triumphant at Quebec’s astounding work in the development of Concord, liberating it from the Confederacy of Layem and refounding it under TL’s banner.

Both of these are excellent. No notes.

Tim Stark wrote:Enamored by Quebec’s incredible utilization of this council to safeguard regional sovereignty, authoring or co-authoring 22 resolutions, penning crucial legislation and incredible odes alike including:

  • the Injunction of Canada, the first Injunction passed by this council which was quickly maneuvered to stem efforts by occupying invaders to conquer a historic region,

I think this is a bit barebones. I also think it misses out on Q's (imo) more impressive commends of NuCa and Kaz1. I'm betting you have the character count, I'd try to flesh this one out some more. It doesn't have to be a laundry list, but Q's SC work shouldn't be such an afterthought considering its influence.

Tim Stark wrote:Highlighting that, at the passage of this resolution, Quebecshire's 20 primary authorships is the most accumulated by any Security Council author in the history of this body,

Now, now, no need to gloat! All seriousness though, I'd try to tie this into the above. A lot of the things he's written (probably a plurality) were done to aid that regional sovereignty referenced earlier, surely it could be considered in light of this, no?

Tim Stark wrote:Letting it be known that Quebec’s many accolades are an exemplar of the ideals and goals of this council, failing not in their fiery effervescence, diplomacy, and vigilance in purging evil where found, and time and time again proving their mastery in both war and peace,

Hereby Commends Quebecshire.

Co-Authored by Westinor and Ikania[/box]

Overall, I like where this has started, but it....definitely needs some work. My biggest gripe is what I get from this commend, as written, is bland defender who does things, built a region, and wrote some WAs. And we, um, all know Q is a lot bigger a personality than that. He is one of the most fiery and polarizing figures on this game who, love him or hate him, I think most people can at least respect him. And while you don't have to lean all the way into that, I think this just needs more seasoning. It's kind of bland right now. Of course I support this in principle anyways though.

1 Sorry, Westie. I guess I remembered where Kaz co-wrote NuCa's thing and extrapolated.

Full support in principal, Quebec was and is an amazing mentor and leader and one of the best activists in the defender faction, both in the SC and on the battlefield. And I find myself agreeing with Hulldom here that its lacking a certain something to show that.

I support this, in principle. (I have a nation in the WA.)

"Extremely toxic and killing the defender faction, no support" - um, Ghazi, I think? One of the BoM peeps

It'd probably be somewhat expected that the opponents to a cause, would comment on something to grant honor to someone promoting that cause.

Against due to Quebecshire's bribery attempt in 2017! No justice has been served in the 6 years since that occurred but now I shall have my revenge!!1!

oh who am I kidding

Absolutely for. Quebec has been a great friend, colleague, and comrade in arms over the years.
