After the sad conclusion to the only gold medal won by Qazox at the first summer games, the Qazoxain delegation is surrounded by security constantly to prevent any assassins or trouble makers from reaching the team. A delegation of around 60 athletes will be partcipating, including a men's team in soccer, a women's team in baseball, a Chessboxer and what could be the team's strengths, Women's football, cycling and tennis. The chairman of the QOC has guarenteed that anything short of 2 golds and 7 total medals will be seen as a failure. The team is now on its way to Querzakhi, Unified Capitalizt States (Capitalizt SLANI), where the opening ceremonies are just a few days away. Good luck to all our athletes, and i hope that none of them die this time. A delegation of 90 athletes will travel to the opening ceremonies, with Gretchen Bucci,of Women's World Cup fame being the flag bearer for the nation.

Ariddia ready for Olympics

As the Second Summer Olympic Games approach, the Ariddian delegation are preparing for their trip to Querzakhi. Some of Ariddia’s best athletes from the Ashford Games will be present, but the PDSRA’s Athletics delegation, in particular, will be composed of mostly young athletes with little or no international experience.

C.O.A. President Eo Sheh has told PINA that the aim is to give the country’s talented youth an opportunity to gain experience – and possibly even shine – in the world’s greatest international sports competition.

Alongside these novice athletes, however, will be some big names. Youssef Kasmba, for archery, and Christina Zhang, for fencing, will both be there in Querzakhi, hoping to re-edit their previous Olympic and Ylompic exploits. Kasmba and Zhang both remain undefeated so far, and carry with them high hopes of new gold medals for Ariddia.

Most of all, Ariddia’s hopes rest on its judokas and gymnasts. Six of Ariddia’s ten judokas are Ashford medal winners, including Olympic champions Admina Mwakingwe and Adam Jameson. Ariddia’s ‘Dream Team’ of gymnasts hopes to sweep up the most medals. Together, they won thirteen medals (of which six gold) in Ashford, making them no doubt the most formidable force in Ariddia’s delegation. Ariddian gymnast Josh Vidic won three gold medals in Ashford, including one in the team competition, and is returning for more.

Most notable, however, will be the presence of events for athletes with disabilities. This will be the culmination of long campaigns by Ariddia’s Olympic and Paralympic committees; the PDSRA has been an isolated voice at the forefront of the struggle to promote paralympic sports on the international stage. This began with one-legged swimmer Mélanie Sandré competing as the sole athlete with a disability in Tyrellia and Ashford.

Now, it appears probable that blind football – as suggested by Ariddia – will be a demonstration event in the Querzakhi Games. Ariddia’s blind football team, quarter-finalists at the Blind World Cup, will be part of their country’s Olympic delegation, and the team’s blind captain, E Ol, will be Ariddia’s flag-bearer during the Opening Ceremony.

“I really hope we have the opportunity to compete,” Mr. Ol told PINA. “Sports for athletes with disabilities still haven’t attracted much international attention. Playing in front of all those spectators at the Olympics would be a spectacular opportunity to at least make people aware of our existence. We’re blind, and we play football. We exist. And we’re proud to play for our country.”

It is not yet certain whether amputee football will also be a demonstration event, but the Comité Olympique Ariddian has stated that it will send an amputee football team to Querzakhi even if the event is not scheduled to take place.

“We want them to be there, taking part in the Opening Ceremony,” Eo Sheh explained. “Even if there’s no amputee football at these Games, our amputee football players want to be present and hopefully give some free training and a little hope to any disabled people who are interested within the Capitalizt States.”

One thing is certain: Ariddians in general are enthusiastic about the Olympics and looking forward to watching the competition.

During the Ashford Games, Ariddian athletes won 29 medals, finishing eighth on the medal table. With fewer athletes taking part this time, it may be difficult to do better, but it is a challenge the Ariddian delegation is willing to take on.

At 8:30 PM Rêvane time tomorrow, PINA will broadcast a half-hour report on athletes with disabilities and competitions for disabled athletes in Ariddia and elsewhere, followed by a half-hour look back at the Ashford Games at 9:30.

From MSPN --

The Maineiacs Olympic team has arrived in the host city, and has begun to prepare to compete in the nation's first Summer Olympics. Our team has a lot to live up to following our strong showing at the 2nd Winter Olympiad in which we bested our mark of 4 medals with no gold at the 1st Winter Olympics to bring home 20 medals and 6 gold. Newly elected President Allison McDermott sent her best wishes to the team via vid hookup, and MOC President Luther Goran spoke hoghly of our athletes' chances. Competitors to watch include swimmer Betsy Kelleher, sister of gold-medalist Ice Dancer Warren Kelleher, our Men's Baseball team, our Women's Softball team, Badminton playing brothers Vibol and Sopheap Parmansupol, Swimmer Sheila Mitchell, 16-year old diver Nuo Mei, our team's youngest member, and 37-year-old boxer George Holmes, our team's oldest member.

As the athletes from at least 32 countries begin to pour into Querzakhi, the Qazoxain Delegation still awaits thier flight from Qazox City to Querzakhi. The feeling amongst this group of 90 men and women is one of elation, as they are the best and brightest of their nation and expect to prove they are the best amongst the world as well.

Our best guess as to Qazoxian favorites in this competion are:

Women's Football- Won gold last time out, and are the favorites this time out.

Derikk Kiid, in Men's BMX-has won all 5 QMX titles, and is expected to medal here.

Stephanie Hezel, Women's Marathon- set a Qazox record at the 15th St. Nash Marathon with a time of 2:15:09, should be a contender for a medal.

Alan O'Neill, Men’s Road Time Trial - Amongst the best in the world and has competed in the last 4 TOUR de QAZOX', improving each time, a dark horse for a gold.

Frank Refth, Men’s Track Individual Sprint- Among the best sprinter in the world, but injuries of late may see him fall just short of a medal.

Team Qazox- Men’s Track Team Sprint- As one of the top teams in not only the TOUR de QAZOX, but the defending World Champions, but first appearance in the Olympics.

Luanne Holt, Women’s BMX- Won 4 of the 5 QMX' titles and is one of few who have actually beaten Derikk Kiid.

Coba Turin, Women’s Mountain Bike- Ranked 4th in the world, and is expected to medal here.

Nelson Leist and Tyrone Mcgowin, Tennis Mens' Singles and Doubles- Both men are ranked in the top 20 in the world as singles, and are ranked #3 in doubles, if they don't get at least 2 medal between them it will be a shame.

Tanisha Howser, Women's Triathalon- Set a new Women's record at the Iroman: Qazox last year with a time of 8:23:50, should do ever better at the shorter Olympic Distance.

Well when Lerasia signed up for the olympics last week we were under the harsh dictatorship of Romescu, 2 days ago he was overthrown in a bloody revolution, the Lerasian athletes performance might no be so well as they might be worried what is going on back home with all the Securiforce violence ect

From the special Olympic preview

You can lead a horse to water but you probably can't play water polo on it.

With a good run at the World Water Polo Championship earlier this year the mens' water polo team is out for gold. First on the agenda would be revenge against the Az-cz team which defeated them at home in the final. But it isn't going to be a cakewalk for the team supposedly second-best in the world.

"It's evident some very good teams didn't come for the World Championships, for whatever reason. We cannot take it for granted that we won the silver and that means it'll be easy at the Olympics. And as favorites it puts pressure on us." said captain Brandon Nichol, who plays as a driver and will be looking to unleash his wicked perimeter shot at the Games.

The womens' team are also raring to go for glory. Although not as favored as the men's team, they want to prove they're a force to be reckoned with.

"We're not at the same level as the guys and the competition is tougher for us." goalkeeper Lynn Lithgow said, "but I'm looking forward to earning some respect, the team's pumped and we are as strong as any other team out there."

Another team from Kelssek is regarding the competition with keen interest, though for other reasons. Scouts from the Kelssek Water Polo League, beginning its second season of fully professional play this summer, want to find some talent at the Games.

"In Kelssek we have a league where there's enough money and a good lifestyle to attract any talented athlete. We want to build the top league in the sport and grabbing the best talent is the way to develop our league and the sport as well." says John Atkinson, who scouts for Kraken de Outineau. "We're one of the few countries where you can make a living playing water polo. That positions us well."

I’ve been delayed by RL issues (and several hours of playing Football Manager to try to ignore those issues :p ); the schedule should be up by early Saturday, 2007–04–28 and the first results should be up later that day.

Xavier Trias - Hello, I'm Xavier Trias.

Helen Santiago - And I'm Helen Santiago.

Xavier - And you're watching the WNC Pre-Olympic Report on WNC Sport, Edward City's favourite Sport News Channel. Helen, what do you think about this Olympics and the Edwardian Team.

Helen - I think that the Unified Capitalizt States have made a great job with the infrastructures for the games. About the USE delegation, I think that our team will not have so much posibilities to win because of the high participation at the games.

Xavier - Yes, but I think that Edward City will have good scores at this games.

Helen - Yes?

Xavier - Yes. Edward City will have a great medal count. Do you remember the last winter olympics? We were so deceptioned about the results of the first 5 days of the games, we won no medals, but then, we suddenly won lots of medals and we finished with the tenth position. This games will be succesful for Edward City, I think.

Helen - Well, this has been all for now. We will return with another Pre-Olympic Report soon. Good night.

For the 1st time ever, Sativaville will be sending athletes to the Summer Games. The small delegation of 60 Athletes will be led into the Olympic stadium by Ryan Header of triathalon fame. The team is only expected to seriously compete in Men's and Women's basketball, with a small chance in the Triathalon.

Probably one of the smallest if not, the smallest olympic team is the Lerasian team made up of only 11 athletes.

This is the first olympic games Lerais has entered, it has only just come out of a revolution that deposed a vicious dictator, Essad Romescu. all of the athletes were out of Lerasia when the revolution happened.

The small team of 11 athletes will be led in by Flag bearer Olga Florenco. she is only 20 years old but she has been doing gymnastics at Lerasia's Sports accademy's since she was 3 years old. They are carrying in the Lerasian flag that was used since the dictator came to power in 1981 but now that the dictator is depsoed a Flag change is being debated. but for now they will be represented under the Romescu era flag

Gillard chosen as flag-bearer

Breton-born judoka Andrew Gillard, 23, will carry the Kelssekian flag at the opening ceremony in Querzakhi tomorrow, the Kelssekian Olympic Committee announced.

Generally considered a medal contender in the men's 73kg category, Gillard was chosen because of his melding of leadership, ability, and community service, said KOC president Patrice Bouvier.

"We wanted to choose someone who is not only an exemplary athlete, but a strong representative of our national values. Andrew Gillard fits those criteria. His humanitarian work and his dedication to his sport are an example for everyone to follow." said Bouvier.

Gillard, who is a trained paramedic, worked as a volunteer for the Kelssekian Red Cross in the humanitarian operation in The Tyrsis Imperium last year. While there, he was often exposed to very dangerous conditions, but he tells the Chronicle and Herald that he enjoyed every minute of it.

"It was tough, draining, and emotionally exhausting when you're dealing with death and disease all the time. But those who live, get well, and thank you as they leave for saving them, that makes it very fulfilling work. It was an experience of a lifetime," said Gillard, "and I'm very honoured to have been chosen to carry the flag. It's a rare opportunity."

Thirty-two nations will be taking part in the Second Summer Olympics starting tomorrow in Querzakhi. The Unified Capitalizt States will be hosting the Olympics for a third time, although this is the first time they are hosting the summer games. Nevertheless, if the experience of the Winter Games is any indication, Querzakhi is set to be a great show.

CAFUNDÉU DECIDES FLAG-BEARER

A young and promising athlete, Júnia Abate will be the flag-bearer of Cafundéu in the Olympic Games. She is one of the favourites in the Archery competition, and already won several national titles. She will hold the flag, but other four athletes will stand near her, staying on focus too. The COC (Comitê Olímpico Cafundelense - in English, Cafundéu's Olympic Comitee), make this decision to make a different entrance.

The other athletes that will enter together with Júnia Abate will be: Grace, the beautiful forward of the basketball National Team; Mário Guila, a very good boxer; Carolina Berna, a competitor in the Rhytmic Gymnastic and Geraldo Magela, goalkeeper of the Blind Football National Team.

Day 0.5 results are up.

OLYMPIC UPDATE

Early results from the opening day of the olympics, Qazox' men's team, was placed in group D along with Bazalonia, Reineberg, Nitrodymium, Jasīʼyūn, and Coocoostan. The first match was against Nitrodymium and ended in a 1-1 draw, with a goal by Tomas Richter in the 56th minute providing the only Qazox goal. Other events and results will be posted when they come in.

NSWiki Page:

Inside the Merano Regency newsroom:

"All right, let's get the sports crew on this. Big deal, only comes around once every-oh, I'm not going to bother to convert all the messed-up math between the nations. You know what I'm talking about."

"The World Cup?"

"No! That's a stupid overblown athletic waste of time! This is the Olympics: display of international camaraderie as everything but the glory of competition is ignored. Got the difference?"

"Not too sure I do."

"Well, we've got a while to teach you. Should be covering the opening ceremony right about now..."

Querzakhi, United Capitalizt States

He didn't know why they'd picked him: not David or Jon in the country's demonstration event? Not one of the many bikers? Perhaps that was it: with so many people blurring together, they wanted someone to stick out. But they could have gone with...Hans? Anyone but a member of the largest team that the country had sent, certainly? Anyone but the man who'd made the error that let Lovisa get the tying run on in the World Baseball Classic?

But perhaps the Olympics would be Ben's redemption.

Delegations large and small filed on before his. The niche of being last in alphabetical order was a fine one for him.

All of a sudden, though, it was time. Wrapping his hands around the frigid flagpole, he walked out into the Querzakhi night...and before the eyes of billions.

Kelssek gets first medal

It's women's synchronised diving that has given Kelssek its first medal of the Querzakhi Olympics, with Beatrice Saucion and Inès Audette finishing third out of four pairs in the 3m springboard event. While not exactly a victory won in a tough field and also in something testosteronal sports radio hosts tend to dismiss as "not a real sport, you call that a sport? I could do that. I could jump off a diving board in perfect timing with my partner... AND I'M NOT GAY, THEY JUST CALL THEM 'PARTNERS' IN THIS SO-CALLED GAME, flip a few times in the air, and land in the water, anyone could do that, (etc.)", the Olympians are celebrating it all the same.

"It's nice to get on the board on day one. I hope this is the first of many medals to come." chef de mission William Parker said.

But there was a big surprise as Kelssek's U-23s defeated Ariddia 2-1 in football, a major upset against a much stronger team, and against the World Cup champions - though not, of course exactly the championship team itself. Yet, a win against a major footballing power is something that has footy fans excited.

Alex Carbaugh has also put in a strong performance in the archery competition. He placed 13th in the ranking round and led the team to 7th place in the team event.

SOME MONTHS AGO...

"Let's face it, Len...no-one gives a monkey's toss about fencing."

Len Worth was forced to agree. The President of the Wentland Fencing Committee looked around his dilapidated gym. Paint was peeling off the walls, the mats were worn through. One of the sabres was a wooden replica and a foil was made of, well, foil.

He had just presided over the national championships which did not even have quarter-finals as there were only four entrants in each category. It was a shame, thought Worth, given that Mat Gould showed some genuine promise with the foil, but a Wentland fencing team in the World Championships? It would be considered a joke.

Worth trudged back to his office and perused the Fencing Chronicle. Nothing about Wentland. Surprise.

Then he noticed something a little surprising.

"Beaumont complained that the D&S Committee was biased against him. 'Yet again I have proved my worth and yet again I have been overlooked for the Worlds. I am getting a little fed up and don't think I will volunteer for them again.'

"Beaumont alleges there are a number of fencers who are dissatisfied with the management of D&S fencing and is threatening to lead a revolt."

Hmm, thought Worth. I wonder.

***

"I do not like zis bleu...it does not suit me..."

Alain Beaumont, moustachioed maverick of the martial art, was complaining about the royal blue blazers the Wentland team wore to the opening ceremony. "Don't worry, Alain," remarked Gould, "you'll be in the tabards soon."

"Indeed...back wiz ze sword...ze only weapon for a gentleman..."

The Wentland team caused some eyebrows to be raised. A bunch of fencers from the fringes of the D&S and Oliverry squads had been rushed through citizenship. Only the likes of Michelle Davies were native Went and were expected to lose out very quickly.

But Len Worth was pleased. The gym had had a new lick of paint and the equipment had been refreshed with Lotix funding, now Wentland could boast Olympic-ranked athletes. And they were ready to go on the very first day.

The native Wents seemed to be inspired. Phil Smith and David Samuels only narrowly lost their first round matches whereas Beaumont marched through imperiously. Maybe it would be the making of a few chaps. And the archery team had managed to avoid killing someone. Good stuff.
