Death Penalty

Postby GOLTZBORG » Wed Feb 16, 2011 9:00 am

Within the borders of the Commonwealth of Goltzborg, the death penalty is the law of the land.

How does your government view this issue?

Tappahannock's central government maintains capital punishment as the final line of defense against recidivism. Our prisons are none too pleasant to begin with, and so when it becomes plain by his or her actions that somebody is not learning their lesson that way, sometimes, the only cure is removal from society.

This is the stance of the Republic. Class dismissed.

We in Frenequesta do not see the death penalty as a deterrent, further it would bloat the justice system's costs. Thus we don't have it.

Revenge is not the issue. Retribution is. There is a marked difference. We are not going to respond to rapists and serial killers with a hug and a pat on the back.

The federation uses the death penalty as punishment for a couple of crimes in the form of beheading or hanging.

The Death penalty is used in Ruskarkand, but never on Dragoons.
Only on humans and immigrants.
They include (But are not limited to):
    Electric Chair (Without Sponge)
    Hanging via Razor Wire
    Firing Squad.
    Beheading.
    Impalement and bleeding.

Yes, we are brutal about it, and yes, we do it for even the smallest crimes.

The Death Penalty is a tried and tested way of deterring criminals, at least in Geckocidron. The only criminals that do not fear the noose are the bloody vampires and bloody ghouls that plague the Geckocidron Catacombs. And we have flamethrowers for them.

Murder by the state is murder nonetheless; therefore, it is illegal.

Our stance doesn't change just because our phrasing does.

Of course we have it. Enemies of the State want to delete the government, and it just stands to reason for the government to delete its enemies instead.

Ineffective? We have yet to have anyone punished with it reoffend in even the slightest way.

No. It is the State that is too cowardly and mealy-mouthed to use its own power that is the disgrace.

The death penalty is abolished. The maximum sentence for an extremely seriously crime (like terrorism, mass murder, or murder of numerous children) is 150 years in maximum security prison.
