Stalin Or Trotsky

Postby Coopanonva » Wed Feb 09, 2011 10:44 am

Stalin was always a Bolshevik and supporter of Lenin from the beginning. Trotsky was a keen Menshevik, and only joined the Bolsheviks in 1917 when he saw that they were going to bring revolution.

Trotsky was a brilliant speaker and a great persuader. Stalin was more pedestrian, but a much better POLITICIAN; he completely out-manoeuvred Trotsky politically

Trotsky would have taken a harder stance against the Nazis and considering he led the Red Army during the Russian Civil War: an officer purge would of been less likely . Making Russia stronger and the Nazis less prepared ..

Who Should of it been ? who would of changed the world for the better or worse? who who who ?

(Personally im a fan of Trotsky ... have a read of animal farm too ;) its about the Russian revolution... snowballs Trotsky and napoleon is Stalin )

I pick Trotsky. I know nothing about him but he'd have had a hard time being worse than Stalin.

I was always under the impression that Trotsky would have been more externally aggressive, but superior internally, whereas Stalin was the opposite?

Bukharin. Stalin was a murderous bastard, but Trotsky was a car-crash waiting to happen. Supporting the international spread of Communism would, instead of having the USSR generally ignored as under Stalin, seen the USSR prone to international military attacks. Furthermore, Trotsky wanted pure Communism, effectively the hated and counter-productive 'War Communism' system of 1919-1921, imposed as soon as possible- a policy which would most likely have been worse for Soviet agriculture and popular unrest than even collectivisation. A limited degree of economic freedom for smallholders and shopkeepers would most likely have been best for the Russian people in the 1920s, although Stalin's rapid industrialisation was probably needed to ward off German invasion in 1941- there's a reason why Stalin didn't "make a stand against the Nazis" for as long as possible.

If it was between Stalin or Trotsky, I'd defo go for Trotsky. Even though I don't fully agree with Trotskyism, I think it would definitely be a better alternative to Stalin, the murdering dictator bastard.

I think Hitler would have made the world the best, after all, he would have gotten rid of all the damn gays and everything. He was a true follower of christ, he relised that it was on the PURE race that god loved, everyone else was a discrace to his good earth.

I pick Castro a the #1 Communist...

but staying on Topic, it'd have to be Trotsky (although Stalin did have an Epic Moustache).

Stalin supporter of Lenin? Last I checked, Lenin was actually attempting to make sure that his successor, whoever else it could have been, was not going to be Stalin, and his wife despised Stalin. Having said that, I'd rather Stalin than Trotsky. At least we know he did some good things for the CCCP.

I think Trotsky would have had a more fatherly and less agressive aproach towards National Unity, but I don't really know.

I live in México, known for being the country on which Trotsy spend his last years after exile, unlike most people would think, he actually spend those years in peace and pretty much under the radar.

Still it didn't prevent him from being murdered, oficially murdered by people trying to rob him but who knows, in this case whatever he was killed on Stalin's orders or by the Americans, back then deeply interest in preventing communism from entering their continent, it's hard to take a pick.

What can I say, I'm a generous person.

Reprehensible beliefs and unoriginal trolling deserve less but there's a margin of error here. I may have given a few points above what it actually is.

I much prefer Trotsky. Dunno why, but after studying all about Russia I (for some reason) have a bit of a soft spot for him. I think people at the time would have assumed that Trotsky would be the "natural" successor to Lenin. I mean, the people thought "Lenin-Trotsky" was one person. We know Lenin had damning things to say about everyone (Bukharin, Tomsky, Kamenev, Zinoviev, Trotsky and especially Stalin) in his last will and testament. However, I'm not so sure Trotsky wanted to be leader. He had the ability to be leader (would've organized the crap outta Russia) and he did have the Red Army as his power base. But - He was also Jewish, so I think he felt he would've been unpopular(?)

I agree though that Bukharin would've made a good leader, too. He was a "right" Bolshevik after all, and they did things "the proper way". We all know he would've let the economy and industry develop naturally. It might've resulted in a Capitalist state and they probably would've lost to Germany in WW2. Don't forget though, it was Stalin's ability to get through the war that increased his popularity a lot - Bukharin would've probably lost support.

Trotsky, on the other hand, we know he wouldn't have purged the Red Army right before the outbreak of WW2, 'cause it was his own creation (y'know, from the Civil War). Perhaps Russia might've pummeled the crap outta Germany under Trotsky's leadership, instead of just about being able to defend themselves 'cause Stalin purged the RA in '39.

This is just my opinion though, so yeah, I choose Trotsky :)

Trotsky would have undoubtedly stabilised Russia in the short run, however, it was Papa Stalin who laid the grounds for Russia to become a world superpower.

I've heard otherwise and that Trotsky played a considerable part in the Five Year Plan. At least, that is if Animal Farm didn't lie to me.
