History

The first recorded mention of Scorpinium was in 400 AD, when a Schlieslandian text mentioned vicous barbarians on the coast, who "were no threat to the King, as they spent as much time drinking as they did fight themselves...", there were no more mentions of these barbarians until the Oterran Crusade. As the Crusaders swept across the land, the vanguard consisted of missionaries who tried to convert the locals. In 768 AD a group of missionaries reached the cold, unforgiving and heathen north. They reached one of the strongest and most devout tribes, led by Warlord Wilhelm, later given the epithet "the Soulless" by the Oterrans, some sources claim he never knew about this, while more recent discoveries might suggest he started using it himself, as a badge of honour. According to Alexander the Sage this happened: "The Missionaries were brought before the great Warlord, and they started preaching about the great sin they lived in. The Warlord interupted them quickly, saying he would not stand to be insulted in his own home, so he pulled out his sword and killed all of them. The bodies were so cut into pieces, and sent with a messenger south, and the Warlord told him: 'Throw them to the southrons, and return, we-'" the Museum of National History has yet to translate more of Alexander's writing surrounding the murder of the missionaries. We do however know from Oterran sources that the mutilated bodies were thrown into the camp, and Richard the Crusader gathered his army and hastily moved north.

Wilhelm was not idle, however, and gathered all the tribes of the north to fight the crusaders. From Alexander the Sage's writings:

The Warlord sent some of his men to meet the Oterrans, they said they had converted to the heathen faith of the Oterrans, they said that the Warlord was hiding in a forest, and gave directions. Henry followed, and when he arrived he saw the Warlord and his troops, very few and without scouting the area, Richard ordered his cavalry to attack. But The Warlord had hidden stakes in the tall gras, and as the cavalry charged they ran into them they were decimated and had to retreat. Then the infantry started advancing, but as they did, from the forest came the rest of the army. Screaming their warcry they fell on the Oterran soldiers, who were paralyzed with fear and got slaughtered, even though they were three times as many.

The Warlord himself killed over 200 soldiers that day, including Richard himself. Richard had been surrounded on a hilltop...

Geography

Climate:
Scorpinum is a cold country, especially further north, where it can become -40°C in winter, and is rarely above 10°C in summer. Further south, however, it is warmer, though barely, with a temperature of -15°C in winter, and 20°C in the warmest months of summer.
The eastern coast is very windy, especially in the winter months, the eastcoast is also heavily forested, and is where Scorpinum gets 60% of its timber.
