Federal, Unitary, or Confederate?

Postby Dekerin Domains » Sun Oct 24, 2010 2:49 pm

Is your system of government Federal (semi-centralized), Unitary (hyper-centralized), or Confederate (decentralized)?

Dekerin Domains is largely Unitary, just because the only self-governing powers within prior to the Revolution were the feudal estates and the cities. Neither of these were adequate to a modern state, so the power has been concentrated in the hands of the Central Government.

Unitary, but I certainly wouldn't call it 'hyper-centralized'.

Is there such a thing as a blend of Federal and Unitary?

Not really, I think. Federal is a rather wide category, itself a blend of the confederate and unitary systems. What's your government like?

A national government that regulates, and a government of several departments that maintains communal and local government/laws.

So Federal.

The Meeting of the Communes, the largest elected organization in Mediterreania, uses a confederate system.
Quick and dirty guide to factions in Mediterranea, and puppets to serve as examples:
-Free Assembly - decentralized group of local associations. Main faction.
-Workers' Republic - anarcho-syndicalist commune
-República Morsica (Betico)
-Republic of Lusca
-Catholic State (The Archbishop of Siraucsa)

I think that would be about where we would fit; something like federal with a strong central government.

Neo Prutenia is a Unitary, Presidential, Representative Meritocratic Republic. We are a very, very strict Unitary country. Any delegation of power comes directly from Königsberg, no dissidence regarding this is tolerated and no part of the country enjoys continual or significant authority in these matters. Delegated responsibilities, powers and rights are dictated by Königsberg and those whom have been chosen to directly represent the centralized government in the Capital answer directly to the capital and not the people, land, institution or any other entity their ruling over. Even the nominally autonomous Overseas Neo Prutenia has it's govenor chosen by the capital back in the Metropole.

In fact, the current Hauptkommandant and Supreme Administrator of Aschenkeilern Neo Prutenia is not a native Aschenkeiler but a Metropolitan Prut, born and raised in Königsberg, which unsuprisingly brings some tensions with the locals. The monopoly on power delegation is heavily contested by Berlin, the largest city of Neo Prutenia and former and historical capital, as the Legislative branch of the government is residing there. Königsberg and Berlin are renown for their political rivalry, spanning nearly an entire century.

Unitary, though the national government has delegated quite a bit of power to one of the regions; the relationship between the two is comparable to that of a federal government to one its' states.

Our government is unitary in nature, although in times of peace the city-states dip into a state of near-autonomy, and the Council does not intervene in their governance.
