[PASSED] Commend 10kI - The Revival, The Conclusion.

Postby A mean old man » Sun Aug 22, 2010 8:45 pm

Might as well pick up where Firstaria left off as Unibot suggested I do. After all, I did write a great deal of the damn thing all those months ago. It doesn't look like Firstaria is coming back any day soon, and I've wished he would so that a good version of this commendation could be submitted. However, since his current prolonged absence is so drawn out and its end does not appear to be anywhere in sight, I think I'll take on his project, finish the resolution which I helped him write, and get this all over and done with.

"Let's begin, shall we? Below is the draft that Firstaria left off on exactly as it was before he CTE'd and failed to submit it. First things first - he spelled independent wrong.

I see I'm going to have to add a "co-authored and edited by" tag for myself by the end of this."

Firstaria and A mean old man wrote:Description:
The Security Council, a indipendent organ of the World Assembly,

RECOGNIZING the region 10000 Islands as a pioneer of Nationstates, being one of the first to create an off-site forum, adopt a Constitution, introduce a regional economy and establish a regional currency for role-play in 2003, thereby pushing the boundaries of game play and setting the conventions for many regions that come after;

RECOGNIZING the fact that 10000 Islands has managed to accomplish the difficult task of remaining active and maintaining a population of over 200 nations for six years;

ACKNOWLEDGING the existence of TITO, the Ten thousand Islands Treaty Organization, a defender army based in 10000 Islands;

APPLAUDING the region of which TITO is based out of, 10000 Islands, for initiating over 1000 successful defensive interventions (through the mobilization of TITO-involved WA nations) to protect hundreds of regions from raider invasion:

AWARE that TITO keeps the World Assembly from being overwhelmed with liberation requests, as their goal of "seek[ing] to live in peace with all regions in NationStates, but [refusing to] back down to the those that wish to impose their will on innocent regions" shares its fundamental principles with the Security Council's "[dedication] to the dissemination of inter-regional peace and goodwill, via force if necessary."

NOTING that 10000 Islands was the very first region that was commended, but the commendation was withdrawn because it was poorly written;

BELIEVING that these contributions go far beyond what can normally be expected from a region, and are hence worthy of World Assembly comendation;

HEREBY commends 10000 Islands.

"Below is a version which I will be editing in order to remove awkwardness and fix wordings that violate the terms of R4. Suggestions are welcome, duh.

I'm a little surprised at how R4-friendly the original resolution was. Way to go me and my clever little ways of wording things."

A mean old man wrote:Description:

The World Assembly Security Council,

RECOGNIZING the region 10000 Islands as a pioneer of what are now vastly used components of regional government and organization, being one of the first regions to:
• create its own private forum,
design a constitution its members to obey in order to promote regional unity and better organize regional activity,
• introduce a regional economy,
• and establish a regional currency, thereby pushing the boundaries of the seemingly limited world of NationStates and setting numerous conventions for many regions that formed later;

ADMIRING the fact that 10000 Islands has managed to accomplish the difficult task of maintaining a population of over 200 nations for seven years,

ACKNOWLEDGING the existence of TITO, the Ten Thousand Islands Treaty Organization, a defender army based out of 10000 Islands,

APPLAUDING TITO's home region, 10000 Islands, for initiating over 1200 successful defensive interventions (through the mobilization of TITO-involved WA nations) to protect hundreds of regions from raider invasion,

AWARE that TITO also keeps the World Assembly from being overwhelmed with liberation requests, as their goal of "seek[ing] to live in peace with all regions in NationStates, but [refusing to] back down to those that wish to impose their will on innocent regions" shares the fundamental principles of the World Assembly Security Council, a body "dedicated to the dissemination of inter-regional peace and goodwill, via force if necessary."

NOTING that 10000 Islands was, in fact, the very first region to be commended, however the original commendation of 10000 Islands was later repealed because it was poorly written,

HEREBY commends 10000 Islands.

I, as Daynor Topid and TFL all in one support this commendation. I know I have had disagreements with them as all three persona's, but TITO is an organization that has done far more good than harm in this game and that is saying something. (Joking.)

This draft looks much better than the original one. I read it once through but that was it (a busy time right now for me as you can imagine) and didn't catch anything there. But I promise to re-check later.

Good job and thanks AMOM. It's good to see you around here.

I'll suggest dropping the use of '10kI' or any kind of acronym since:
- It's not widely used outside of 10000 Islands;
- Even within the region, acronym used range from 10KI to 10kI to XKI;
- You wouldn't want some people creating a region called '10KI' to make fun of the resolution and the region again. Like what happened last time.

Just use '10000 Islands' throughout. It is better that way.

After being notified of Anime Daisuki's large contribution to the proposal in this post during the original drafting, I will be listing "Anime Daisuki" as a co-author of the resolution as well, unless it is preferred I cite "Goddess Relief Office" instead.

ADMIRING the fact that 10000 Islands has managed to accomplish the difficult task of remaining active and maintaining a population of over 200 nations for seven years,

You could say what they were remaining active in doing, or just getting rid of the phrase, since maintaining a large population kind of implies maintaining activity. It sounds too game-y to me, personally, though I'm no expert on Rule 4.

Good point. This clause should probably be either re-worded or removed. I don't think that "activity" and "population of ... nations" would violate R4, as such terms could be used when referring to a real-life region, though they might sound a bit odd when used in that context. It's only the "seven years" bit that's the most seemingly R4-unfriendly.

You have my support

Me and TITO rarely agree, but that does not mean they are any less deserving of a commendation

I don't feel familiar enough with the inner workings/etc. with regards to 10kI to make any substantive comments on the text.

However: I know in the GA there is a limit of one co-author per proposal. Anything else will get your proposal yanked from the queue for ... branding, or whatever they want to call it. Does that rule carry over to the SC as well? (And this may be a better question for the Topid's Sampler thread, perhaps?)

Just tossing that out there as "food for thought," so to speak.

OOC: No branding rule for SC proposals, though there's probably a practical limit.

Mentioning population certainly doesn't violate Rule 4. I don't think 'seven years' would either, since the region is simply a collective of nations, a la the European Union.

I think it has a sort of "reality-imposed" limit. I mean, are you seriously going to ask Delegates to believe that more than three NSers can agree at any one time on any given set of words? :twisted:

Agreed, though I would've phrased that differently :p

Back to the Topic though: I agree on a commendation for 10KI. I'm also convinced anything phrased reasonably well will pass. Most important is to phrase it such that it's not going to get repealed. Again. I'll comment on the phrasing once I've figured out what the actual current proposal is. EDIT: no clue. OP?

XKI isn't perfect and has plenty of situations where they either mess up or look like the bad guy, but it's hard to argue against liberating 1275+ regions. No comment.

Having rather recently noticed that commendations/condemnations you receive don't have to be necessarily related with what you actually do, the Most Serene Republic of Reggenza del Carnaro will therefore act accordingly to this irrefutable truth. :twisted:
