Hi all,
Over the past couple of days, I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a collegiate football league, in the vein of America’s NCAA. I think that it could be a lot of fun and, additionally, has the potential to provide interesting backgrounds for players headed to domestic leagues and national teams. This has been done fairly successfully recently, with Whittoria hosting the ICAA for two seasons, before it folded due to time constraints on Whittoria’s part, and for one season in the NSCAA, which apparently collapsed when it was discovered that an EA Sports game was being used to scorinate the games.

Anyway, I’m looking to see if there is still any interest in a collegiate football league. What I envision right now is one experimental season, scorinated by me, using NSFootySim, where all teams play in a single conference. Fairly basic stuff, but ideally, if the first season goes successfully and enough people are willing to participate, we can expand, growing into multiple conferences, creating a number of Bowl games, and other fun little additions.

So, any takers?

EDIT: Scratch that, it's been brought to my attention that a college football league already exists, but Mytannion brought up the great suggestion of a franchise-based international professional league. If anyone is interested in such an idea, then post here and let us know.

Hmm. I'd be interested, say if it was one or two teams from about 10 nations to start off? Then we had an expansion every season or so, until we've got enough teams for additional add-ons and such? And would there be an RPing bonus...?

And is it NSFootySim, for American Football? Because NSFootySim is used for soccer/football. Not American Football.

There is already Nation States College Football (NSCF)

The first season is currently going on right now. If you are interested, you can join NSCF 2 when the time comes.

You can start your own but I think it is unnecessary to have 2 college football leagues.

Maybe instead of a collegiate conference, we could play it with franchises, but it can be like a 10 nation joint league, or something like that?

NSFS3 (and even a later version of 2, I believe), has an American football scorination option.

Like an international professional league? I like that idea.

Yeah, thats exactly what I mean, with all the teams being franchise based, but kind of like some of the domestic Football/Soccer leagues that are played between teams from three nations.

I'd be interested, but would like to know:

Which of these analogies fits most?

KHL (kontinental hockey league): 23 teams, 20 russian, 1 latvian, 1 belarussian, 1 kazakhstani. (You make the league for your nation, but allow us one or two entry spots each, so that it is guaranteed to be full)
UEFA Champion's League: 1-4 teams per country, depending on the country and how strong the teams are (in what I see as the usable version of this, you have us all submit as many teams as we like, with one guaranteed team per nation. You then scorinate a knockout tournament where the top XX finishers all qualify for the league - note I AM NOT SAYING THIS SHOULD BE A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, BUT A FIXED LEAGUE WITH THE SAME TEAMS YEAR IN/OUT, ALLOWING FOR EXPANSION. I am merely saying that the champions league has a limit per country of teams attempting to enter.)

I don't want to speak for Cosumar or Arkinesia, but I get the feeling that if this thing gets going, then they might like to join. I tried to start a tournament with eight professional teams (the IPFT) but I like this idea better, and Haltsitan never even posted rosters, so we couldn't start. If you'd be willing to run this pro league, then this might tie in great with the NSCF. Then players could be drafted into this league. Obviously it's not my say, but I suggest that the first season only includes 8-12 teams. That way everything can run smoothly, and you won't feel too overwhelmed.

I THINK there is a international pro league, but I'm not sure. It's possible though, to do this either as a

(1) NCAA Division II-type league (to where a school could in future choose to jump to NSCF - which could be a BCS type NCAA)

(2) make it a FCS-type thing (I-AA)

(3) a BCS/D-II/possible FCS deal, or

(4) any combination or none of the above.

Just a suggestion, is all. But I'd be interested in adding a team of bunch. I'm working on my own off-line domestic league of about 20-some schools.

As far as I know, there are NSCF, the World Bowl and the Arena Bowl, but those are tournaments and not leagues. Either way, i think there's enough interest in this to get things going. I'll have some stuff done by tomorrow.

If we start with say, 12 teams, we can have an expansion every season. We can then make several more smaller leagues.
For example, if we started in the first season with 12 teams in one league, we then expand to 16 teams with 2 leagues (8 teams in each league), then in the third season, 18 teams, with 3 leagues of 6, until we have enough teams and smaller leagues where we can have a league and then knockout format. Or we could have 1 like Premier league, and then however many smaller leagues from which teams get promoted into the Premier League.

Alright that's good, but I want to caution against us expanding too fast and turning into something where only two or three people are really involved, when there are fifty teams listed, like some of the competitions out there seem to be.

Any name suggestions?

We could make a new name for the sport or something..

Or just, names that have sponsors in them but instead of real ones, ones that are made up...like something instead of Vodafone or something like that?

I would be really interested in joining this. However I may want to wait until the second season to join unless you really need more people in the first season.

I don't think a new name would be the appropriate thing to do, because other people not in the league would be confused as to what's going on. I'd say IFL is fine or if you want to go off of the NSCF thing, we could just make this league the NSPFL (Nation States Professional Football League). And I'm sticking to my originial idea- where only 8-12 teams should be allowed in the first season.

I am willing to give it a go, but really is there a reason to limit the number of initial franchises granted? Seems to me that there wont be tons more than that. Also if this does work as planned and we do run drafts from the ranks of college players, what does that mean for those of us who chose not to play in the collegiate competition? Would our players be available for the draft as well?
