Older games

Postby Lord Tothe » Tue Aug 17, 2010 1:34 am

The new graphics on games like Marathon 2: Durandal, Perfect Dark, and Monkey Island on Xbox Live, and the release of StarCraft II have made me start thinking about old favorites in gaming. What older computer games, especially from the 90's or earlier, would you like to see remade or see a sequel?

My partial list:

Descent and its sequels: Updated graphics. Everything else was perfect. Would be great if downloadable via Steam, Xbox Arcade, PlayStation Store, etc.
Lords of the Realm II: Sequel. More economic options, and the castle creation from the original LOTR with the battle mechanics and general controls from LOTR2.
Sid Meier's Colonization: Remake. 8-bit doesn't cut it anymore. Fun turn-based strategy game.
Top Gear 2: Updated graphics. This was a fun SNES racer I used to play, and would make an excellent addition to the Playstation Store, Xbox Arcade, and Nintendo Wii shop channel.

But that is a fatuous answer, for those who are satisfied to mind their own business do not aspire to become authorities." ~ Thomas Szasz

Sword Of Aragon remake would be nice.

A couple of the older sim games. Simulation just isn't as popular nowadays, now is a great time for a revival! :p

Damn you and your time-traveling shenanigans to upbraid me. :P I was referring to a simple graphical upgrade fr the original game. I know there's a remake of Sid Meier's Pirates out there as well.

It also looks like there's a new XCOM title, but it's not a squad tactical strategy game.

Age of Empires I.

Still my favourite in the AoE-Universe, and still filled with bugs, ai-cheating and... strange stuff.

I spend a LOT of time playing old games; it's refreshing to not be dealign with Easier Than Easy games where the execs go "Screw the plot, we have graphics!"

Now if you'll excuse me, Romance of the Three Kingdoms II (SNES, Koei, 1991) calls.

Would love to see a remake of Transarctica, which I fondly remember from my youth. Also, it's barely that old, but a new Freespace would be great.
Conserative Morality wrote:Simulation just isn't as popular nowadays.

Err dunno about that really. Got sims of all kinds around.

SimTower is pretty old anyway.

Unless they remade it and if so when and where do I get a copy?
You know you've made it on NSG when you have a whole thread created around what you said.

A remake would be great - modern games technology applied to the bronze age. I can't play my (mac) version anymore because it has a weird save bug.

A remake of the Marathon series would be good but everyone would piss and moan about it being a rip-off of Halo, when the opposite's true.

Too bad the game is still being developed, and the company wouldn't dare let anyone like Valve put it up for sale on Steam or DirectDownload.

Though Rome was good, it wasn't as good, even with the cool Vids.

I would also like to see Revenant with today's graphics.

Dungeon Keeper 2. The closest thing to that in the last 5 years has been Evil Genius, which would've been great if it had a skirmish mode.
