Copa Rushmori 3 [Rushmori Nations Only]

Postby Malak Free State » Fri Jun 25, 2010 6:03 pm

This product is brought to you by insane Rushmoris. We have ethnic Rushmori swan handlers (and some sentient gators, but nobody knows about them yet, so shhh)!

Given that Malak and Anseriskan stadiums were eventually rejected from the list of stadiums for the Somewhereistonia/Pasarga World Cup 52 bid. The Malak FA, feeling a bit bored and wondering what to do with the Malak stadiums a year before the World Cup decided it was time for another Copa Rushmori. Apparently nobody disagreed and so the Malak FA (with the Anseriskan FA thingy - autonomous states can be confusing sometimes) went ahead and made a logo and everything, so here it is, the Copa Rushmore Three thread for everything and stuff. Also badgers.

[No space gators were harmed in the making of this bid/thread/or anything else or anything. Geese may have been.]

Scorination:

Scorination will be done with NSFS3 at around 21:00 UTC. Matchday 1 will be sometime next week or early the week afterwards, whenever I decide. Style mods can be between +5 and -5, as they've apparently been fixed.

Tiebreakers if teams finish level on points will be: 1) Goal Difference 2) H2H (Pts, GD, GF) 3) Goals For 4) Wins 5) Playoff (a playoff is obviously inferior to a coin flip!) 6)Drawing of lots. Flipping a coin.

Tournament Format:

Four groups of six, top two advancing from each group.

Groups Minefield (1) and Tank Division (2) will be based in Malak Free State (main), groups Gator (3) and Goose (4) will be based in Anseriska. All will be incredibly exciting and enjoyed by all (yes that includes you, you will enjoy it)!

Invites will be sent out at some point soonish to remaining Rushmori nations. I'll operate a 1 + 1 rule for puppets, akin to the World Cup. I didn't send invites to the multitude of extra puppets, but you can designate one if you want to sent them, if not, then whatever. If you wish to hastily join Rushmore just to play in this competition, don't bother, you won't be accepted this time (because well, you might leave afterwords - rendering the point of you entering kinda moot). You can however move to Rushmore and then participate in the next Copa Rushmori. Rushmore welcomes all nations, loquacious or otherwise.

Signups closed.

Now, if you'll just let the Anseriskans finish their traditional goose hunt, we can get going.

MD1 will be Sunday the 4th, with the group draw done, apparently.

Nation: Somewhereistonia
Team Nickname: Eagles
Style Modifier: +4
Formation: 4-1-3-2
Home stadium: Spektakl-3-Arena
Kit:

Image1st Kit Image2nd Kit Image3rd Kit

Manager: Aleksandr Roždestvenskij (following the sacking of the first manager of Somewhereistonia to never win a trophy, Roždestvenskij is an attempt to get back to what is Somewhereistonian, to a man who can really appreciate the style of play the Eagles need). - He is yet to "get going" officially - signs of a job loss are growing.
Assistant Manager: José Marín TRAITOR! Err anyway, we are looking for a new Assistant Manager. Applications are wanted, apply to us. Yes, we want your applications, anyone?
Attacking coach: Kukas Skormilonski (former Eagles striker and assistant manager for Malak Free State.)
Defensive coach: Are you mad? Attack is the best form of defence, don't you know that? Oh wait, we do have one - Andrus Lurich the former Eagles Captain.
Head Physio: Gustav Tolving (Owner of a sports physio centre outside Qasarian, he has shown a brilliant ability to bring players back from injury sooner than expected).

Bugger, not a great Cup of Harmony for the Eagles. Oh well, they'll just have to come back to the warming glow of winning a third Copa Rushmori right? I mean, we can't lose the title can we? Nah. Go Eagles! Woo!

Team roster. Positions shown within [square brackets]

First 11
1. Karela Hanaterisana, 30 [GK]. [Ventspils Redwings]. A former Norwellian, being non-genderqueer he was subject to some abuse in his home country, since his move to Somewhereistonia at the age of 17, he has enjoyed high levels of success at Ventspils Redwings and after gaining citizenship has finally won selection to the national squad. With Klug being moved aside, Hanaterisana is coming to the perfect age to set himself up to fill the #1 spot, and so he will.
2. Vladimir Volterov, 25 [LB]. [Volodiscow Resistance]. The Volodiscow Resistance full back is one of great future promise, he looks for a long future of TQCC qualifying games and maybe more. Volterov was new to the side anyway so no need to move him out.
3. Nemanja Tuták, 21 [LCB]. [Volodiscow Resistance]. The youngster has impressed with his club, Volodiscow Resistance and so has been shoved straight into the first team, replacing the lacklustre Hellat.
4.Kasper Grinius [C], 33 [RCB]. [Green Island Zapata, C&M]. Grinius has shown strength and determination, even when let down by his other defenders. Grinius is now a starter for giants Green Island Zapata. The captain once struggled for a first team place but now finds himself leading the Eagles onto the pitch with perhaps only one or two more world cups he might qualify for, he will be determined to lead them to success. Grinius is now apparently the best defender in the CMSC so he is pretty impressive. Yes he is.
5. Vladimir Talaus, 24 [RB]. [Metalurgs]. The Metalurgs full-back has been a consistent player if an irregular starter for his club. Stern performances have been marred by injuries to a player early into his career. A solid choice player for the ageing Sokk with Orviku and others available should Talaus once again drop out through injury.
6. Gintaras Cashunko, 27 [DMF]. [Qasarian Sparta]. The midfielder is an instant fit for the now retired Paposki. Cashunko's recent move from Volodiscow Resistance to Qasarian Sparta has raised some eyebrows but there is little reason to suggest that he cannot remain within the national team.
7. Vincas Taska, 31 [RMF]. [Raynor City United, VAL]. The former Dinamo star was once voted MIP for 2 seasons running. Quick of the mark and able to cross dangerously, he can trouble even the most experience fullback. A big move to Dancougar side, Sporting Kildare might boost his career, except that Dancougar went kuput, so he moved in with the Elves and Raynor City United in particular. Stuff happened in some other dimension and now Taska is popping in goals like never before, so he jumps back into the national team. Insane!
8. Vytautas Törk [VC], 32 [MF]. [Royal Khaldoon, QPO]. A long term bench warmer for the national team, with Keres' fitness not as high as it once was, Törk gained a first team place back in the world cup 48 qualifiers, with Keres usually either being subbed off or on for the the dangerous midfielder. The $20m rated Royal Khaldoon midfielder is now a key part of this teams attack.
14. Kazys Xentolov, 28 [Fwd]. [Ranca Toco, CAF]. He recently scored a record 44 goals for Metalurgs in one season of the Meistrliiga. A huge threat to any team. Xentolov was instrumental in winning recent titles with Metalurgs. A big move to Cafundelense club Ranca Toco looks to be a new start for the player.
11. Wasi Tasi 19 [CF]. [Volodiscow Resistance]. An ethnic Rushmori immigrant to Ida Balak following the war with Kyrinskaia, Tasi soon gained citizenship and now looks to become a future star.
13. Alexis Birsa, 27 [SS/SMF] [Atlantas Klaipaada]. The player was snapped up by Atlantas from Hawks on his 16th birthday for an incredible $11m, showing just how much potential Birsa has. Two years on, he has yet to hold down an international place; having lacked consistency in the league although this is clearly becoming more threatening. Having a number of caps already (many off the bench), Birsa is perhaps the perfect replacement for Nolakk, who lacked creativity during the recent qualification campaign.

Subs:

9. Arak Nokk, 27 [Fwd]. [Volodiscow Resistance]. The Volodiscow Resistance forward is expected to become a solid performer off the bench for the Eagles. Expect a few substitute goals from this guy.
10. Kukas Kujenai 22 [SMF]. [Alianza Jucaro, SRG]. An upcoming star, strong, boisterous and quick. A great substitute to pull the full backs apart. Kejenai proved his ability during the Cup of Harmony, pushing Taska from the first team during the tournament.
12. Petr Šķēle, 27 [GK]. [Metalurgs]. A good solid keeper, ready to come in when called upon. Nothing special to see here.
15. August Vanka, 23 [CB]. [Athletic Khaldoon, QPO]. An up and coming talent, thought to be a long term replacement for Grinius. He still shows his inexperience at times and is a bit of a surprise selection.
16. Vladimir Belšekeva, 25 [FB]. [Metalurgs]. A dangerous attacking full-back, Belšekeva has shown his quality both going forward and in defence for Metalurgs and becoming one of the teams better players.
17. Ragnar Orviku 23 [LB]. [Dinamo Karrakiv]. A solid defender, and a future starter, for now, just a benchwarmer looking for a chance.
18. Vladimir Vihmäveetoru, 18 [CF]. [Ventspils Bluewings]. After a poor showing in world cup qualifying, Kusnets is finally dropped from the national team squad, replaced by Bluewings' up and coming striker, Vihmäveetoru. The youngster (who was a youth player for the Meistriliiga side) has had an impressive season for Bluewings, even if the team itself shows little of excellence in the league.
19. Gennadij Demʹânovič, 21 [MF]. [Volodiscow Resistance]. A dynamic young player who looks to become a future star, the youngster seems keen to impress and should cause ripples through the game coming off the bench as he did during the Cup of Harmony.
20. Gintaras Ranilas, 26, [CB]. [Qasarian City]. A fairly good centre-back but perhaps a bit short of top level experience playing at City, it is too early to tell whether he will become a success at international level.
21. Alvis Vīķe-Freiberga, 25 [SMF]. [Metalurgs]. A dangerous crosser of the ball and a young talent who may yet become one of the greats. Till now though, despite shining moments, he can seem a little average.
22. Arak Kakela, 19 [DMF]. [Volodiscow Resistance]. The young midfielder has been targetted as the possible future replacement for Cashunko although he has struggled to make the position for his club his own, with Toomas Vilms probiding the competition there as well as for the national team place.
23. Vladimir Zanák 23 [GK]. [Somewhere in Nethertopia]. Zanák looks to be the likely successor to Hanaterisana and wins a place among what is likely to be his future first team players.

If my opponent RP's first they can:

Manager: Kazys Papolov (Somewhereistonian coach, formerly of Koltelcia and Qasarian City, the manager makes his first attempt at coaching an international squad).
Assistant Manager: We need a new assistant manager as well. Kukas left us to be a striker coach or something. Not only that but he got to fly through various dimensions!

We got bored and forgot to sign up to WC51, we got to the final of the last Copa Rushmori and now we're hosting it? Hah, who let us do this? I mean, the Anseriskans are in charge of half of it! Things are going to get insane and also possibly goose-filled.

Team roster. Positions shown within [square brackets]

First 11
1. Marc Ogiński, 27 [GK]. Avidia City [Krytenia]. This keeper impressed so well with numerous great saves during the early part of the Copa Rushmori that he was quickly snapped up by Avidia City, amongst numerous bids from Meistriliiga clubs.
2. Mikhail Dukelsky, 26 [LWB]. Bandeirantes [Cafundéu]. Quick, aware and clever. He'll be keen to impress in his new home, assuming he gets a game in Cafundéu.
3. Boris Atroshchenko, 22 [RWB]. Gamboa FC [Candelaria And Marquez]. Something blarg and a guy who plays in the CMSC. Good, eh?
4. Alexis Wurka, 28 [LCB] *Captain*. Deportivo Cordova [Sargossa]. A sturdy central defender from the Malak region of former Kyrin territories. After being selected for the Somewhereistonian Cup of Harmony 41 squad, Wurka is seen as perhaps the best prospect for this young team. Now moving to play in Sargossa, he has proved his ability to hold together a stern defence.
5. Maksim Bałachonaŭ, 22 [RCB]. Mercadel S.C. [Sargossa]. A good centre back. What more can you say.
6. Siarhiej Karatkevich, 28 [DMF]. Cathedral City [Candelaria And Marquez]. Sturdy, strong and capable. Karatkevich is more than able to break up the attacks coming through from midfield.
8. Anatoly Milinkievič, 23 [CMF]. Pythons [Queer Poco El Mono Ara]. A great passer and a central part to Malak's attacking potential. Able to pick out the forward runs and make things happen.
7. Stanislav Viačorka, 24 [RMF]. Dinamo Karrakiv [Somewhereistonia]. One of the best players in the Copa Rushmori, you have to say his crossing is one of the biggest threats for Malak. An essential part in this young team.
11. Sergey Kuncevič, 27 [LMF] *Vice-Captain*. Avidia City [Krytenia]. Kuncevič is that one who can make the difference, the one run, that one pass when the team cannot get through. A great star and well worth the fee paid by Avidia.
10. Talksi Hexa, 22 [LST]. Eldorado [Cafundéu]. An ethnic Rushmori from the Autonomous region of Anseriska. His excellent ability, coupled with being now able to play for Malak have meant that he slots straight into the first team, displacing a very good Kovalyonok.
9. Dmitri Žukava, 21 [RST]. Pythons [Queer Poco El Mono Ara]. One of the top scorers in the Copa Rushmori, D. Žukava can header, hold the ball up, run and shoot; he's a strong player 'n' all. He can play well with others or be a lone striker. A perfect striker pretty much.

Subs:
12. Ivan Volodinsk, 32 [GK]. Gamboa FC [Candelaria And Marquez]
13. Zi Xzaz, 19 [MF]. Volodiscow Resistance [Somewhereistonia]. An ethnic Rushmori from the Autonomous region of Anseriska.
14. Zxis Kiko, 19 [ST]. Vaska FK [Somewhereistonia]. An ethnic Rushmori from the Autonomous region of Anseriska.
15. Pyotr Kovalyonok, 23 [LST]. Ventspils Bluewings [Somewhereistonia]
16. Zi Wasoi, 23 [RMF]. Tammeka Kuressaare [Somewhereistonia]. An ethnic Rushmori from the Autonomous region of Anseriska.
17. Owwu Kiko, 23 [MF]. Eldorado [Cafundéu]. An ethnic Rushmori from the Autonomous region of Anseriska.
18. Andrei Mirnyi, 29 [Wing]. Gamboa FC [Candelaria And Marquez]
19. Gennadij Nokk, 20 [FB]. Qasarian City [Somewhereistonia]
20. Anatoly Žukava, 20 [FB]. Mercadel S.C. [Sargossa]
21. Gowa Tawaw, 28 [CB]. Carter FC [Capitalizt SLANI]. An ethnic Rushmori from the Autonomous region of Anseriska.
22. Balak Kostitsyn, 29 [CB]. Ousevale Juniors [Krytenia]
23. Vladimir Matyushenko, 20 [GK]. Han Hawks [Daehanjeiguk]

The Queer Poco el Mono Ara Copa Rushmori Squad

Image

Coach – Joe Hamburgstein. The man from Jeruselem led QPeMA to their first ever World Cup. Having lost only 1 game in qualifying it looks as though Joe has turned this team into a competitive one capable of getting a result when they need to. This being said, The Whites failed to progress from the group stage going 1-1-1. He’s decided to rest some of the players in the squad and will be taking a semi-reserve team.

Also a change of formation is on the cards as The Whites take on a 4-3-3 for the first time in an international competition.

Starting XI

Gkp. 01. Wilf Laudrup – The stalwart Pythons keeper rarely plays for his country due to the high caliber of competition. He’ll be delighted to be grabbing the number 1 spot. He’s tall, agile and a fearless shot stopper.

RB. 02. George Webo - A graduate of the Augustus academy, played well for his country throughout the qualifying campaign. Gets forward and supports the attacks but may jump in a little too often.

CB. 05. Karim Zaki – The forty year old defender returns to the squad on the back of a free transfer to League I side Garrincha F.C, he can still do the job but his legs may be just a little too old to keep up with the younger strikers.

CB. 06. Mercutio Vegas – Mercutio is tall and as strong as an ox. He’s pretty good in the box and is dangerous from set pieces. Gets to play in the first team for the first time since the 12th Di Bradini Cup.

LB. 03. Peter Walton – plays for League I Real Minanda. He’s not quite progressed as much as hoped while lingering in the lower division. A good showing here and maybe he can make a much needed move to a higher level of competition.

RM. 07. Rowan Askwith – He’s been involved in the national team for years but has been stuck behind Hugo Anderson. He’s good on the ball and has a decent cross but will never be a World beater.

CM. 08. Jordi – one time young player of the season, the much hyped Royal Khaldoon utility midfielder is a classy midfielder with a burst of pace to match a cheetah and a pretty good finish.

LM. 11. Tomas Flo – plays for Oakow Lightening and was thought to be an up coming left winger. He’s still only young and if he continues to progress he may challenge Augustus winger Shapiro for the position.

FWD. 04. Emile Karembeu – the striker has moved about a bit in the league and failed to really settle anywhere. The coach has shown faith in him by naming him in the starting XI which should do wonders for his confidence – and maybe catch the eye of an international team.

FWD. 09. Wayne Ullrich – Started a dozen games for The Whites during qualifying but was dropped for the experience of Ishmael Van Dyke. A strong striker with a powerful header, lumping the ball into the box may be a good idea if all else fails.

FWD. 10. Gilbert Batistuta – Reserve for the World Cup given a chance to shine. Known throughout the lower leagues for his flair and goal scoring prowess, his move to Ridgemont failed to yield quite the same success.

Subs

CB. 12. Rudolpho – The former under 21’s captain was touted as Queer Poco’s rising star in defence but fell off the radar. A firm tackler who rarely puts a foot wrong and will be disappointed at being relegated to the bench. A free agent at the moment/

Gkp.13. Seamus O’Hara – Promoted to second choice keeper. He’s yet to start for his country, but his form for his club would suggest he’d be up to the task.

LM. 14. Nakiti Shapiro – The Augustus midfielder keeps getting better and better. Sublime burst of pace coupled with a scary dead ball abilities make him a formidable attacking threat.

CM. 15.– Graham Potter – The midfielder’s form dipped this season but he’s still one of the best young players in QPeMA, another hard hitter for the central midfield.

FWD. 16. Lionel Vega – Went missing since his move to Newmanistan. A good striker – in fact a great striker, but with nobody paying attention to the Newmanistan league nobody really knows any better.

Reserves.

17. DEF. Andy Bromley - Burley United
18. DEF. Joel Craddock – Athletic Khaldoon
19. MID. Nazim Benayoun – Valengren Kickers
20. STR. Steve Mcbrin - Almondvale
21. MID. Casper Blomkvist – Valengren Kickers
22. GKP. Fabien Fabianski – Skyte City
23. STR. Hakan Mendez – Athletic Khaldoon

Sofnikos Anaxaux Roster

I'm not sure why we're doing this, but we've got a football roster here for the country. But we're not going to use football players. We're going to go to an online randomness site in the next three seconds and writing down what these people are in just a few moments.

character profiles courtesy of Seventh Sanctum

GK: Šimo Khrusophore - a kung-fu guru whose brilliance makes him unfathomable and whose odd ideas are actually true (orly?).

RB: Gianluigi Yannis - a genial and hearty barkeeper who leads a band of merry men and has an eye for the opposite sex (keep him away from your beer and women).
LB: Mario Bettino - a super-sexy super spy who only gets loud because he cares and discovers his heritage and destiny with a paper clip (impressive).
CD: Maurizio Karagounis - a super-sexy super spy who keeps repeating himself over and over and over and whose loyalties are suspect and ever-shifting (and he's a central defender? oh dear me).
CD: Petros Rossetti - a star student who is persecuted by a government conspiracy (aren't they all?).

RM: Dionisio Rex - an outlaw samurai who has an endless supply of gadgets (that might come in handy).
LM: Rosario Dimichelis - a strong but not very smart man who is just this side of crazy (yarly).
DMC: Fabio Daniello - a secret horror in the shadows of society who is actually a unique supernatural being and is the result of an illegal scientific experiment (godmod elf in disguise?).
CM: Giordano Euphonios - an aristocratic vampire who has a soft spot for kids (a necrotic pedophile?)
AMC: Dragica Theophanos - a strong-willed yet elegant Southern Belle who has to be better than anyone else, yet is persecuted by a government conspiracy (frankly my dear, I don't give a damn)

ST: Don Basilio Athinaikos - a stealthy assassin who is forced by circumstance or honor to destroy his love (how tragic...).

They'll be led out by Giorgios Martins - an outlaw samurai who pilots a giant robot made by his father (Dancougar much?). How he does it will depend as much upon his ability to manage these different personalities as much as it does my ability to write these oddly strange stories. Unfortunately, no subs, so it's probably going to end up becoming an odd Mission: Impossible that's really impossible as much as it is farfetched and rude.
Following new legislation, the Sofnikos Anaxaux Mental Asylum Party have recently won seats in parliament.

It's official - we're insane.

The Vonghurst Star
Young Team sent to Insane Asylum...better known as the Copa Rushmori

VONGHURST - Just a couple hours ago the Virabi National Team set off for their semi-close neighbours Malak and Anseriska. For many of these players it's a land that they know quite well as they often play SRPD matches there. Normally, they travel there with their clubs for the SRPD. However, this time it's with their national team and they're headed there for what some call a gathering of the Insane (for thos who don't know a large group of Rushmoris insane people is called an asylum) but, the gathering is more formally referred to as the Copa Rushmori, which is entering it's third edition.

However, the selection of players that Waldenyr Caldas made has drawn some criticism with many sports talk show hosts criticizing his decision to start younger players while simultaneously benching regulars like Nuggets Defender Ron Bass and famed Atalanta striker Jake Soroka Not to mention, completely leaving out ex-Leas striker Marty Conquest. Other players left out include youngster Rudolfo Brown and the tried and true Jeff Parker.

In defense of his decision, Waldenyr has claimed that in this tournament he is looking to find some fresh blood so that a roster can be worked out for the World Cup Qualifiers which start later in the year. In response to this, critics have pointed to the upcoming Di Brandini Cup as being a more suitable ground for new players to be observed.

This drew response not only from Manager Caldas but also the VFA who have backed Caldas' move and have said that to truly see how players will fare in the Qualifiers it's best that they're put into full internationals at the senior level. A VFA spokesperson also said that the DBC wouldn't work for those who are over 21 like TAHAI! defender Henry Burns who has been eyed as a potential replacement for the aging Ron Bass.

Either way we'll have to see what becomes of this mess and how this "young" team fares thick of the insanity at the third Copa Rushmori.

It was not long after the draw was announced and the results had time to make their way upon the internet that the organizers of the Copa Rushmori 3 received a letter in the mail, whose return address was apparently from Amserica. It was written in Amserican and thus rather diffcult to decipher however it was clear from the letterhead that it was from the Amserići Fútibol Asósaź and that what was a list of seemingly weird paired up words were in fact names. It had an explanation in Amserican before the list of names which was as follows:

KOÝAR, Strom
YRĆTAR, Ayel
SĆULZ, Ýose
SOUKUP, Kliment
ÝANECEK, Zebuluń
BROZ, Eyen
SIMEK, Kamil

NEUMANN, Otik
NAÝRATIL, Kamil
TIĆI, Zelotes
MASEK, Karel
BLÁ, Radek
CEĆ, Branimir
KASPAR, Ota

KRECI, Branislay
STEPANEK, Ýio
NAÝMAN, Mikolas
MAĆACEK, Zemaria
KOYARIK, Branimir
SKALA, Oldrić

SKALA, Damek
NEUMANN, Anus
BERAN, Ota

Looking after the list, they found a very, very cryptic block of text:

Select my scorers: N
Give out yellow cards to my players: Y
Give out red cards to my players: N
RP injuries to my players: Y
Godmod injuries: N
Godmod scoring events: N
Godmod other events: N

Style Modifier: +1
Formation: 4-3-3

This all seemed very strange to the organizers however, feeling that it was only appropriate, they decided to put it with the well organized and less strange rosters of the competition. It was good to know that the Amserican team would hopefully be playing and that they hadn't been sent the acceptance letter by mistake.

((OOC: Please note the order of players is is goalies, defensemen, midfield and then forwards. Starting 11 are bold. The two neumanns are unrelated but the Skalas are brothers but Damek is rather old... despite his brother playing, he is unlikely to be substituted in. Yes this is a roster/RP depending how you want to look at it.))

JESSERIZTANI FOOTBALL STAR LAUNCHED

MECAZZA, Jesseriztan - 'Jesseriztani Football Star' - a reality program that will unearth amateur football players from around the country to become a force in Copa Rushmori, was launched here yesterday. Through the program that is scheduled 2 months before Copa Rushmori kicks off, 40 entrants from 7 states will be selected to undergo training for 2 months at Jesse Elton Alvarez Stadium.

The program was organized for the first time by Jesseriztan Football Association (JEFOFA) and is sponsored and supported by HATI Sportswear, Jesseriztani Post, Arena Broadcast Network, Pan Jesseriztan Insurance and Air Jesseriztan.

A total of 40 participants will be selected to undergo training. After three weeks, the organizers will only choose 23 players to prepare for Copa Rushmori. The program will be aired on Arena Bola every Wednesday and Saturday, at 8 pm, while all the Copa Rushmori matches will also be held live in High Definition directly from Malak Free State and Anseriska also through Arena Bola.

Chairman of JEFOFA, Peeters Visser said the program aims to increase the interest and focus on football in Jesseriztan.

"We never have a national team before and this is best time to form it. I recommend this proposal to the Prime Minister of Jesseriztan, Jeremy Elton Alvarez and he approved," Peeters Visser said after the launching at Crystal Pyramid Mall.

Entering the realm of international football for the first time, the Rushmore Islands of Palacios and Rodallega

Image

Coach – Thomas Lugano. Palatian coach will lead the “Tropical Storm” team in their first international competition. His yearly salary is equivalent to some of the Una Serie’s top earners weekly wages. His experience is a little thin, but he’s passionate about his country and about football.

Starting XI

1. Shaka George. 32 (St. Clementine F.C.) [Goalkeeper] Plays in the completely unknown Palatian league. His a little short, but agile. He’s renowned across the country for being a superb penalty stopper.

2. Brent Adis. 31. (Bleufontaine Pirates) [Rightback] He’s a good tackler, like’s to get forward and help attack, has a decent cross but lacks pace and may be caught out if he ventures too far forward.
3. Atiba Kisnorbo. 29. (Solado Hawks) [Leftback] The youngest player amongst the defence, he’s not naturally left footed but plays there for club and country. He doesn’t go roaming forward much as he needs to cut back inside. Likely to hang back and defend.
5. Lucas Marley. 35. (W. Palacios Centurions) [Centreback] Captain* Marley is a cool head on old shoulders. He has years of experience in the local league and will be looked upon to guide his team mates on the biggest stage they’ve found themselves on.
6. Leon West. 32. (St. Clementine F.C.) [Centreback] A strong determined man who will throw himself in front of any shot and tackle any man he can. A rock at the back he rarely puts a foot wrong.

4. Carlton Ba. 33. (St. Clementine F.C.) [Central Midfield] Ba is a essentially a holding player. He wont join in attacks unless he’s needed and will just hang back making necessary challenges and playing decisive passes.
7. Maxwell Gray. 26. (W. Rodallega Centurions) [Right wing] Blistering pace, thunderous shot, just lacks consistency when crossing the ball. He also has a tendency to end up in the referee’s book unnecessarily.
8. Damian Whitley. 31. (St. Clementine F.C.) [Central Midfield] Damian is a good passer of the ball and not afraid to shoot. He’s in the last year of his contract and may soon be set to retire.
11. Colin Latapy. 32. (Lorramine Fury) [Left wing] One of few natural left footers on the islands, he is a dead ball specialist and likely to take all P+R’s corners and freekicks. His natural pace is now fading so he needs to rely on his crossing ability.

9. Exodus Jones. 24. (W. Rodallega Centurions) [Forward] Palacios and Rodallega’s most gifted player. A born goal scorer who’s being targeted by Una Serie champs Pythons. Could be a big time player if he moves off the islands.
10. Dwight Eliot. 34. (Unattached) [Support Striker] He’s getting on in years now, but is in the team for his experience. Used to score goals for fun, now he reads the game and feeds his partner. Probably wont play a full 90 minutes.

Subs.

12. Joshua Edwards. 29. (St. Clementine F.C.) [Rightback]
13. Clyde Williams 40. (Banaire United) [Goalkeeper]
14. Anderson Goode 21. (Kobryń Cobras SOM) [Centreback]
15. Jethro Cupid 26. (W. Palacios Centurions) [Centreback]
16. Felix Burgess 22. (Kobryń Cobras SOM) [Central Midfield]
17. Wilson Edwards 20. (Kobryń Cobras SOM) [Right Wing]
18. Devon Cummings 31. (St. Clementine F.C.) [Central Midfield]
19. Suni Stewart. 30. (Mount Deschamps Red Diamonds) [Left Back]
20. Ezekiel Eden 22. (Kobryń Cobras SOM) [Left Wing]
21. Sherlon Theobold 23. (W. Rodallega Centurions) [Striker]
22. Donovan Williams. 33. (Bleufontaine Pirates) [Striker]
23. Jesse Fletcher 19. (Unattached) [Goalkeeper]

Manager Michael Davis has decided not to make any changes from the squad used by Tentalon in World Cup 51 qualifying. Of course, we failed to actually post that roster, so we should probably post it here anyway.

Davis favors a 3-4-3 formation that plays a little less aggressively than one might expect (style modifier -1).

Starters are in bold.

GOALKEEPERS

1 - Daniel Westwood (36, Garrison)
12 - Phil Wellman (33, Monson)
23 - Paul Bates (29, Chadbourne City)

DEFENDERS

2 - right - Mike Gill (32, Heyburn)
3 - all - Benjamin Byrne (28, Hartford City)
4 - center - Seth Moore (35, Young)
13 - right - Chris Wilson (31, Liberty County)
14 - all - Neil Thomson (31, Poorman)
15 - center - Lee Rooney (34, Ashley)
24 - center - Dale Byrne (29, Crosby Athletic)

MIDFIELDERS

5 - center - Jamie Cooke (29, Stanley)
6 - all - Jason Kraft (31, Volodiscow Resistance [SOM])
7 - right - Robbie Hunt (32, Lyman)
11 - left - Terry McLean (29, Orangeville)
16 - center - Tim Thomas (31, Hartford City)
17 - center - Michael Gordon (30, Camden County)
18 - center - Adam Lawton (25, Monson)
19 - right - Matt Tanner (30, Stanford United)

FORWARDS

8 - Dave Rose (27, Stanley)
9 - Christopher Allen (26, Lyman)
10 - Ryan Moore (29, Lakehurst)
20 - Shawn Miller (30, Boon)
21 - Charlie Taylor (26, Crosby Athletic)
22 - Nate White (22, Stanford United)
25 - Michael Overson (31, Wickford)

The Birth of a Nation....

Identity can often be a confusing thing. For Hayley Brennan, daughter of Sorthern parents but born and raised in Candelaria And Marquez, identify was something that proved particularly confusing. A promising footballer, she'd often dreamed of playing for her local CMSC side Port of Clotaire and had in fact had a trial with them, helped in no small part by her boyfriend being the son of Winston Muscat, the club's manager.

Now though, events had made her chances of playing for Port of Clotaire in the near future, alongside Sorthern heroes such as Iñaki Arrigorriagakoa and Will Hooper, rather slim. Posters of both of those players adorned the walls of her bedroom, as did one of Jhanna Young, the postergirl of Candelaria And Marquez's national football team.

Strictly speaking the poster of Hooper wasn't on the wall of Hayley's bedroom but on the door of her wardrobe. Within that wardrobe lay a further sign of her confusion as to her identity. Within were the wardrobe was both a blue and green Candelaria And Marquez shirt and a red and gold Sorthern Northland. At various times throughout her life she'd dreamed of wearing not a replica but the real shirt of both nations. More so Candelaria And Marquez perhaps, but that was could be put down to pragmatism with the Big Blues having been open to female players far earlier than the Náisiúnta. Which nation did she actually want to play for though? In short, she was glad her two countries hadn't played each other, at least not since in the period her memory stretched back to, and made her have to make a choice of who to support.

To find something she didn't find out all confusing though, all she had to do was look a little to the right of the Jhanna Young poster and out of her bedroom window. Below her window was part of Clotaire's port. As a young child she'd watch out of the window every morning and every evening for the Rose of Clotaire. It was a small fishing boat, largely indistinguishable from many other fishing boats. Her dad though didn't work on any of the other fishing boats and so it was that she'd always watch that boat sailing into the morning distance or arriving back in the evening twilight.

It'd been thirteen years since she'd seen that boat though. On a breezy Saturday morning in July she'd watch it, with her father on, sail northwards from Clotaire backed by a strong tailwind. That evening though it didn't return, and it hadn't since. Still though, she would watch it for almost every day. She knew it was a vain hope, but sometimes it was only the hope that allowed her to cope. A year or so ago her brother Conor followed in their father's footsteps and became a fisherman. As the Rose of Clotaire before, she'd watch for safe return of the Northern Star. About five months ago however, on a summers day not dissimilar to that fateful day thirteen years ago, it wasn't just the Rose of Clotaire that failed to return to port but the Northern Star as well.

Both boats it was said had gone missing near Terra Anatidae, an island some way north of Clotaire inhabited by a large number of swans, geese and ducks. Through the haze Hayley often thought she could just make out the distant island. Looking out of her window now she could see a wedge of swans overhead flying from the direction of Terra Anatidae. It was a sight that gave her a mixture of feelings. Anger, dread, grievance, sorrow. It also reminded her that if there was thing she wasn't confused about, it was that the anatidae inhabitants to the north had often spelt trouble....

Some way to the north

“For Christ and Sorthern Northland!”

The shout of his companion as he battered yet another goose on the beak with a triptych showing the joys of a garden of Earthly delights somewhat startled Allun. Not least because they'd fled Sorthern Northland due to being persecuted there because of their faith. When he thought about it though Allun supposed he would still pray for their homeland. Once they'd managed to safely fend off the numerous armada of geese and swans constantly attacking them at any rate.

“BON COP DE FALÇ!” came the cry of the Snortho-Catalan member of their group.

A good blow with the sickle that translated to. Apart from not having a sickle handy it seemed just the thing to do in the situation. Just a few more blows with the metaphorical sickle and they'd be there, they'd have made it to St. Brendan's Cove. A place that legend had it had been blessed by St. Brendan himself to provide a safe haven. The perfect place for those fleeing persecution in their homeland to set up new home. Just a shame then that it was on Terra Anatidae and was chock full of rather confrontational waterfowl that Rushmore had become somewhat (in)famous for.

“HONK!”

Just a few more left now, but it was getting no easier for Allun and his companions. A good number of men they'd already lost but little choice did they have but to struggle over the last few anatids standing in their way.

“HONK!”

Another one bites the dust. It was within reach now, just one more blow.

“HONK!”

Then, nothing. It was almost a deafening silence. For the first time since they'd set foot on the main isle of what they'd named the Ansernia Islands the constant honking and quacking of hordes of swans, geese and ducks was not to be heard. Allun knelt down on the wet sands as a gentle wave surrounded his goose blood covered feet. He dipped his hand down to feel the warmish sea water, to feel the grains of sand, to feel that it was real. That is really was the legendary cove.

It was. Finally, after many months of voyage and many hours of struggling through hordes of swans and geese they'd made it to St. Brendan's Cove.

Sensing one of his many fellow pilgrims with him he rose back to his feet. Turning round he recognised it as Maccul, one of the senior members among the group. With a wide smile Allun spoke the first words.

“It is real, we are here! What do we do now?”

Barely taking a instant to reflect upon the moment Maccul replied, “We offer our prays of thanks of course. And then after that we can start to build our community here, and on the other islands as well. The problem anatidae seemed to be just on this island, so I think setting up parishes on the other isles shouldn't be quite the test it was here.”

A silence suggesting agreement followed before Allun broke it with a question.

“How though will we keep the islands united?”

Once again, almost without missing a beat, Maccul had an answer straight away.

“Football.”

It'd be a year of so before a football team representing the islands ever played together. For some residents to the south of the Ansernia Islands it'd be a year of anxious wondering about why those feared anatidae of the north had diminished so much in presence. Were they really gone, or was this just the calm before another devastating storm?

The Amsericans had showed up in Anseriska, their neighbouring country. However, this was no fleeing across the border as was typical of many visits which Amsericans paid to the country, no this was with the approval of the Amserican government. Every member of the team had all the paper work filled out by the AFA so that there wouldn't be any problems - at least as long as the Amserican team was sure to return once they were eliminated from the cup. They would never be able to return to their home country, like other Amsericans who visited, should they not return immediately following elimination.

The first thing the Amsericans noticed once they arrived was that this country was a lot like the southern parts of their own country. Those from the middle and from the west of the country - where winters were routinely cold enough to play ice hockey - didn't like it very much however the rest of the team wasn't too displeased with the climate. The second thing the Amsericans noticed was that Anseriska had a good deal more waterfowl than Amserica did. Whether this was because the Amsericans drove them to Anseriska or because they were popularly eaten, the team was unsure, however the water fowl did bother them a bit. If it was Amserica, they would likely be killed and eaten without a second thought however they always had the fact that they were technically foreign guests in the back of their mind and did their utmost to not kill any waterfowl.

The team arrived a few days before their actual first match. They became accostumed to the food and to the slightly different cultural norms of their neighbours. They also found the freedom they were afforded while they stayed in Anseriska to be refreshing in a way. They normally played football only when they were not working in Amserica - even if their workload was less than others - but here their entire focus was playing football. Most of the time in the few days they had before their first game was spent practicing hard and they were grateful when their coach afforded them a rest.

The day of their game finally came and they were wearing their black kits for the match. The AFA logo on their front left breast and their last name and number on their back in the blue which matched that which was on their flag were the only parts of the kit which weren't black. The team operated in a formation which was practically the standard in Amserica - a 4-3-3. Their opponents were from the island of Ignasverus and their opponent's fans seemed to be overwhelming. Many of the locals, however, were supporting the Amserican side. The Anseriskans did not actually have their own team - their players were mixed with those from the Malak Free State - and they seemed to need a team to support which would not require them to fly to the Malak Free State. This team happened to be Somewhereistonia or Amserica or both depending on who you asked however more than a few thousand locals showed up to support Amserica in their game. Somewhereistonia was playing in a different group.

The game was tough for the Amserican side and the first half ended scoreless. Koýar did a great job as the Amserican goalie and the four defenseman seemed to be unbreakable. The only problem was that the Amserican offense couldn't seem to find an opening. The opening came however, after over an hour had been played in the 63rd minute, a beatiful pass from Oldrić Skala to set up the goal for Zemaria Maćecek. Those fans who were wearing the Amserican national colours (which happened to be the same as the Anseriskan national colours) cheered in the stands and the players celebrated their first international goal. The Ignasverusians tried their best to strike back on the Amsericans however all of the efforts were in vain as the time added on came to a close and the Amserican players had officially won the match.

After they checked the complete standings after each team in their group had played one match they found that the Mice of Miceland had beaten the next opponent of the Amserican team - Illytria - by one goal and were consequently slightly ahead of them in the group. This would soon be rectified by the Amsericans and they resolved to defeat the Illytrians by a greater margin than the Mice. How Mice could have played the match in the first place did not occur to any of the players though. The training would have to be doubled in order to stand a better chance against the Illytrian team.

“Humiliating, horrifying humbling at the hands of unknowns – Queer Poco el Mono Ara’s mediocre “B” Team are crushed 5-1 by Isla Pilsen, prompting calls for Joe Hamburgstein to resign. Here in the studio with me, former international keeper Petr Ollic and former Valengren Kickers manager Ray Hodgson. Good morning.”

“Good morning.”

“Good morning.”

“So, what do you think, Ray?”

“Every now and then an upset comes along and shocks the fans. When I was in charge at Valengren, we got relegated. That came as a shock and as soon as things like that happen the fans are quick to turn.”

“Petr, you’ve played under Hamburgstein, what do you make of the situation?”

“It’s unfortunate. I watched the match and didn’t think we played badly. We finished the game with 9 men and missed a dozen chances ourselves.”

“Do you think it would’ve been different if Batistuta hadn’t missed that penalty before half time?”

“Probably not, we were already trailing 3-0 and the player’s heads were down.”

“Ray?”

“Once the lads give up and are resigned to defeat there’s no coming back, they start to become sloppy, make bad tackles, that’s how we lost two players, give the ball away, they end up out of position. It just becomes a great big shambles.”

“So where do you stand on Hamburgstein stepping down?”

“It’s preposterous. The man led this country to their first World Cup appearance and has taken us from strength to strength, one blip doesn’t constitute a sacking.”

“Fans are fickle. They turn on the managers and coaches before the players. But for me the players let him down out there last night. They let the coach down and the country.”

“Strong words Ray.”

“And something I strongly believe in. These men play regular football for their league teams. They play in the TQCC, the Globe Cup, they’re not Sunday league players. It’s fierce competition. We have a good team and should be challenging for the Copa Rushmori, but over the last three editions we’ve frozen. It’s a great chance for Queer Poco to show Rushmore and the rest of the World that we are a strong footballing nation, then we are treated to this dismal performance.”

“Don’t you think the coach should take some of the flack? He picked the 23 men, leaving behind the majority of those who played at the World Cup.”

“The coach has picked 23 experienced players who play to, what I presume to be a higher level of competition to those in the Isla Pilsen squad. This game should’ve been a walk in the park.”

“Petr?”

“Nothing is ever easy in football, especially international football, so I don’t think we can take any opposition for granted.”

“Right. We’ll be back with the highlights of last night’s match and we’ll be chatting to Petr about his new job in charge of Somewhereistonian side FBK Korgessaare right after this break.”

“You’re back with me Frank Stephens dissecting yesterday’s Copa Rushmori action. We’ve got highlights of yesterday’s shambolic performance against Isla Pilsen and all of last night’s goals, but first, a word with Petr Ollic. Petr, you’re taking your first managerial job with Neljaliiga side FBK Korgessaare, what prompted you to join FBK?”

“They’re an ambitious side, building for the future. They’ve already got a pretty good squad in place.”

“What about your lack pf experience?”

“I spent last year assisting Ugo Stowell over at Belle-Isle and earning my coaching badges, so I’m fully qualified, all I need now is a little experience and FBK are willing to give me a shot.”

“So, how’s the family looking forward to moving to Somewhereistonia?”

“It’s just me and the wife now. Petr junior is playing for Burley United, while Miroslav is busy. Alexa can’t wait to move, she’s always wanted to visit Somewhereistonia but with me moving around she’s not had the chance.”

“Okay, quickly before we show these highlights, if Hamburgstein was to step down tomorrow, would you be interested in the national team coach’s job?”

*Ha* “Probably not right now, I’ve just signed a contract with FBK Korgessaare. But in the future, maybe. I loved playing for my country, it was an honor, so coaching the team is going to be something similar.”

---

“Highlights” of the QPeMA - Isla Pilsen match

---

“What do you make of Wayne Ullrich’s goal?”

“It’s a cracking finish. First time volley on the edge of the box with the team 4-0 down. It show’s character, being able to summon a goal like that while all the team around you are playing so badly.”

“From a keeper’s perspective there’s nothing you can do there. The ball moved in the air and gave him no chance.”

“You can see why he’s moving to Arrigo Portuguese.”

“Yeah, he’s been a regular goal scorer for Augustus and finally he’s getting a shot in the national team.”

“Do you think he can be a replacement for Ishmael Van Dyke, Petr?”

“I dunno. Ishmael is a World class forward. He was a natural goal scorer and everything was effortless with him. It’s going to be devastating for the country when he finally hangs up his boots, but if any of this current crop of strikers can take over, it’s probably Wayne.”

“Okay, we’re going for another quick break, but afterwards we’re in the kitchen with Ray Hodgson, whose going to be taking on the “Big Breakfast Challenge”, seeing how quickly he can eat a full breakfast. Be right back.”

The channel changed as Tomasz Poborsky decided he’d watched enough of “Football in the Morning” on QP Sportscaster 1. After he’d retired he’d barely watched any international football and after watching the highlights of last night’s game, he kinda wished he hadn’t bothered.

National Association of Recreational Football (Miceland) Accepts Cup of Harmony Invitation!

Team Style: +1

Team Manager: Pinksford HeadMouse
Coach: Robo-coach

Robo-coach is a magical robot that has gained sentience and absolutely loves football and so coaches the team...He can take upon almost any form but usually takes on a human form for matches against humans and is usually otherwise in mice form though he has been known to travel as a modern sportscar.

Strikers:

#12 Richard LionMouse - Club: MouseCentral United

Richard LionMouse is one of the best striker's in Miceland, he usually has a very direct approach but he's got very good footwork so if you're not 'on the ball' so to speak he'll wrong foot you, get in behind you and score a goal. He is a very honourable mouse on the field and tries his best to keep a clean sheet. While he does on the occasion slip up, afterwards he feels as if he has let down the team. This applies to off field circumstances as well.

#16 Peter YellowMouse - Club: Beachside FC

Peter has a rare family trait, he's totally yellow. It's been passed down the family through generations often one even 2 generations before re-appearing. Peter obviosly had a hard time in school and took sport as an escape. He's very touchy about the colour and if there's even a hint of people being colourists (as he likes to call it) then he gets all worked up about it. This can cause some rather unpleasant situations but for the most part the team, especially with his fellow striker whom they have a friendly competitive thing going on.

Midfielders:

#25 Hector von DresdenMaus - Club: Grassland AFC

Having settled in a German speaking land for some time Hector von DresdenMaus is one of the few Mäuse in Miceland. The family has kept some german traditions including some of the german sausages and speaking with an out-rageously incorrect German accent. Though he is a very good midfielder fast and a strong understanding of tactics from countless hours training as a youngster.

#29 Renée GupterMouse - Club: MouseCentral United

Renée is one of the females of the team, and she is not French and she goes to great measures to make that point. Despite being in the same club for years and a close personal friendship with Richard LionMouse they share no romantic interest though they are often the subject wild rumours on this subject.

#29 Frauline von BerlinMaus - Club: Mausville Utd

Frauline is the one of the few german-speaking female mice in NARF, it's a testament to her ability that she's the only mouse from Mausville that has ever had been accepted into the national team. She's big for a mouse but don't let that fool you she's really quick and nimble.

#28 Damien GibMouse - Club: Underhill City

Having a city in a cave seems odd, but it's such as good a location as any other and for Damien it was the perfect place to learn football. He started playing with small pebbles slightly larger and oddly shaped for a soccer ball. The pebbles are much harder and heavier than traditional footballs and so on doctors advice he took up the sport as replacement. He soon found he had tremendous kick and passing abilities

Defenders:

#36 Michael DisneyMouse - Club: HappyPlains United

HappyPlains is quite an idealyc spot lush green grass one thing it's good for is playing football, and coming from there Michael had an early education in football. Despite being a very happy and personable bloke both off and on the field. He's not afraid to take you done if you threaten the goal but he doesn't do it with any kind of malice after all the HappyPlains area is known for it's soft grass. Has been known to take mope on occasions but only for personal use and has stated that he would not dare use it before or during a match. *This may or may not be completely accurate

#32 Wayne ParanoidMouse- Club: Rasstern FC

Wayne can be quite Paranoid, always thinking that people are plotting to take the ball away from him, whether friends or allies. As a result his close ball work is amazing and can not only take possession of the ball but keep a hold of it... he however has a habit of holding onto the ball a bit too much holding onto it when it should be passed or waiting until the last minute until doing so. Any attacker that faces him be ready because he's already most likely got a plan to stop your attack especially if it is rather unusual plan.

#35 Danielle RedMouse - Club: Clifftop AFC

Danielle's family aren't named for their colour their named for their fiery passion, everything they do they do it passionately. Red is the colour of passion and this is her name, unlike the previous defenders Danielle is fiery in her defense she takes out those in her way with passion and is the
teams most yellow-carded player of the team. She has been remoured to have been intimate with all her teammates even Reneé but everyone publicly denies this. She is a great defender and don't you dare get on her badside or otherwise she will give pain.

#33 Robert FredMouse - Club: Beachside FC

Taking the standard mice playing football asside, Robert is fairly boring, nothing really makes him standard out fairly average in most ways not too goody, not too bad not an amazing defender, but good enough to seal a place on the team. There is no single attribute where Robert is signficantly different from the standard. If anything could be said about he's a nice guy if you get to know him, and that's about it.

Keeper:

#42 Charles EarsMouse - Club: Clifftop City

Charles has extremely large ears and is able to control them in a limited way as an additional set of hands. The big wind catchers can not only help him fill more of the goal but they also help him determine where the ball is and what is happening to it through Trent's mope haze.

Whilst most foreign eyes will be on the football, in the shape of the Copa Rushmori, there is another prestigious competition about to start in Anseriska, one with a great deal more history. The Annual Anseriskan Wild Goose Chase is a competition, strangely, hosted every year (sometimes more than once). Whilst the ritualistic hunting of geese and other waterfowl has occurred for tens of thousands of years in the region (at least), this competition has been going for a measly 149th years (the extra numbers are for the years where multiple competitions have been held).

The hunt takes a huge variety of forms, with huge celebrations and feasting in cities and towns, whilst the swamplands and islands flood with Anseriskans and foreigners attempting to hunt the various waterfowl of the area. In recent years the event has grown in size, with the 157th edition seeing an estimated 1.4 millions tonnes of waterfowl killed as part of the month long celebration. Whilst there is no central, formal competition, various records stand, with Xiazi Diyizm holding the records for the most birds killed in a day (1,093), most birds killed over the course of the month (27,311) - most of which was donated to people fleeing from Kyrinskaia and had little to eat, and the record for largest bird killed (63 KGs).

The competition is by no means safe, with Rushmori waterfowl well known for their ferocity, it is thought that around 350 people are killed each year during this competition from goose attacks alone. Add to this the threats from (in order of threat); swans, ducks, gators, herons, other waterfowl, getting lost, drowning, attacks by Swampies (small collection of tribes living within the swamps) as well as many other threats.

The event take many forms and sees an increasing number of non-Anseriskans taking part, expected to increase with the Copa Rushmori being hosted at the same time. To begin with, there is the medium of interpretive dance used mostly by native Rushmoris to summon the gods to help protect them from being mauled by geese. Some even still use the traditional bow and arrow to catch the waterfowl, although the usage has been superseded by other methods (with more gunpowder, usually). Still, the canoe has remained a mainstay of the event for navigation of the swamps and lakes. Others though, clearly have too much money for this sort of thing.

Still, however you choose to hunt, watch out for the attack geese!

The Vonghurst Star
Copa Rushmori Preview of Doom

VITSYEBSK - To the familiar land of Malak the Virabi team and their fans will travel. However, this time it's not for the SRPD but it's for the pinnacle of sporting events in Rushmore, the Third Copa Rushmori. The groups have been drawn, the fixtures scheduled, the tickets sold and all that needs to be done now is for the matches themselves to be played.

However, before they are played, In traditional Vonghurst Style we will break down the group Virabia is in for you. This time, we've been placed in the Tank Division along side our Rushmori Neighbourd The Malak Free State, West Zirconia, Sofnikos Anaxaux, Tynelia Effect and Sargossa.

Now, Let's break it down.

Virabia: Following good performances in the Cups of Peace and Harmony the team has shown signs of improvement under Waldenyr Caldas. However, some are thinking that this may be a result of luck and easier matches and that in the Copa Rushmori the team will fall back into their old habits of under-performing. Still, who knows, the tournament is a wide open race for first and with a somewhat new team Virabia could find themselves doing pretty good. We'll have to see though.

Projection: 2nd

Malak Free State: They are the host nation and as such there are some high expectations of them by all. Especially their fans who will certainly be out droves supporting the home team. Also, with host luck on their side they could find them selves doing better than they have in previous competitions.

Projection: 1st

West Zirconia: To be honest we have not done our homework on this squad but, from what we do know they are not a bad squad by any means. Still, they will end up under performing and as a result not make it out of the group stage.

Projection: 4th

Sofnikos Anaxaux: They are quite a small little country and they don't have all that strong of a footballing program. Thus they will probably not do all to well but, suprises are always in the book and Sofnikos Anaxaux could become one of the little nations that could in this cup.

Projection: 5th

Tynelia Effect: Every group has the bottom dweller, and for this group it's Tynelia Effect. However, a win on their part could tear apart the plans of some nations. So this game should not be taken lightly.

Projection: 6th

Sargossa: While we are predicting them to come in third, realistically they are a much better candidate for second. They are definately a strong tram and in our opinion it will be tiebreakers that separate them and Virabia.

((OOC: I had no idea scores were today... oh well belated preview FTW... give us kudos anyways))

Somewhere in Rural Southern Brantaland:

A small house sits surrounded by the forest which seemingly stretched for miles in each direction. Normally the area looks like any other forested mountain region but, at sunset the landscape becomes a work of art. The front lawn of the aforementioned house is far from neat. Old trucks lay gathering rust and weeds poke up through the uncut grass.

On the porch of the house sit two men in lawn chairs. They are sipping beers and talking as they watch the sun slowly drift below the horizon. The one on the left has denim overalls over his bare skin and a Marx Tractor hat covers his short haircut. The other one is wearing a t-shirt of one of his favourite baseball teams and jeans. Like the other person he also dons a Marx Tractor hat.

"Ya' know Jeb, life's been pretty dull 'round here", said the person on the right in between sips of beer.

Jeb replied, "Yep, ever since paw died life's gone to the shitter. Farm closed down. Got nothing to do out here. But, we stay." The house had been a family farm for generations. The family raised cows for cheese and geese for eggs. They also grew maize but, soon after their dad dies new laws were passed that restricted farming in the area and thus the farm was forced to close down. The rest of the family had moved away but, for some reason the two sons stayed behind.

The one on the right, Marc, silently nodded, "Oop, look at the cooler. Looks like we need ourselves some more beer. Who's gunna make the rune me or..."

Jeb interrupted, "fuck it, lets both go. We can get some food and stuff. Stop by the bar."

Marc agreed and the two got into their pick-up truck and began heading to the nearest town which is Gill. However, in all fairness Gill isn't so much of a town as it's just a house and two buildings. One is a general store the other a pub and restaurant. So, it's more of a convenience for the people who live out in the country near by as the next town over is 50 km and the roads are in pretty poor condition all the way there.

30 minutes later, the two had already finished their shop and were already sitting in the bar which was unusually crowded tonight. The barkeep finally made his way over to Marc and Jeb who were waiting in a booth.

"So will it be the usual," the bartender asked them. The usual being a Vale Lager and with a plate of chips. Both of them nodded and the bartender walked back to the counter. The two brothers had gotten to talking when Jeb took notice of a poster advertising the annual Anseriskan Goose Hunt.

"See that poster. Doesn't look like something all that bad...We could work on our trapping skills"

"Yep, but it's too far away"

"Yea, I know", said Jeb, "but, hey we got nothin better to do".

Wheey! Copa Rushmori! Time for a Nethertopian roster. New manager: Peter van der Klein. Managed The Grey Towers for a long time before replacing Francisco Martinez as manager of the Falcons. He always used a system based on Karela for his Grey Towers success, but seems to take a different way this time around with a total football based system. The assistant manager will still be Courtney Ferguson, whose motivational speeches in the dressingroom must've done something right last time around, with the recent World Cup success and all...

As always, the Copa Rushmori won't have the Falcons' strongest side. While Van der Kleijn is presumably bringing his squad that will also participate in the World Cup, he is fielding the reserves.

Nation: The Hidden Paw
Team nickname: 'The Great Hunt'

Manager: Harrubearr DeWhite (male Ursine, very light-brown fur, elderly, eloquent)

Team Doctor: Berrins ThunderBear (male Ursine, youngish adult, dark brown fur, wears heavy glasses and often wears a white 'lab' coat over his ordinary clothes, doesn't talk much)

Kits: 'Home' = all white (except Goalkeeper's, which is dark gray)
'Away' = all black (except Goalkeeper's, which is light gray)

Style modifier: balanced, essentially ±0 (although if the host is willing then this goes to +1 against any team whose style is -2.5 or lower / -1 against any team whose style is +2.5 or higher...)

Normal formation: 3-4-3

RP permissions: Anything that's reasonable or funny, but don't get too many of them red-carded at a time; however their doctor can "magically" fix most injuries almost immediately, and most other injuries before their next game... and two of the players, namely 'Sable' & 'Scarrlett', are basically indestructible to any hazards to which they're at all likely to be exposed in these circumstances anyway.

Yes, they're all Ursines, although unlike the teams from Bears Armed they're males rather than females. They're generally closer to the 'human' end of the anthropomorphism scale than most of BA's people, less massive but more agile than those, and --- except in any specific cases where I indicate otherwise -- have eyesight within the normal human range.
Also unlike the teams from BA, these players are quite likely to cheat if they think that there's something worthwhile to be gained by doing so and that they have a reasonable chance of getting away with it. To use an analogy based on the Harry Potter' books, if BA is 'Hufflepuffs' -- which I think would be a fairly common view abroad -- or even (at least by their own estimation) 'Gryffindors' then THP tends to be more... well... 'Slytherins'...
(Why a 'Harry Potter' analogy, you ask? Well, remember, this is one of the nations that managed to field a team for NS's first 'Quidditch World Cup': Don't worry, though, they have a strict "No wands inside sporting venues" rule for everybody except sports associations' officials and -- when playing -- Quidditch teams...)
(Of course, 'Slytherins' and their typical attitude to rules...)

Roster

Goalkeeper: #01 _ Pait'hurr Storm _ plays for 'SouthGate Stormcubs' _ dark brown fur, ambidextrous, big but fast on his feet too, can exhale strongly enough to blow the ball around and maybe even to blow opposing players off of their feet.

Defenders: #02 _ Berrjhill ThunderBear _ plays for 'Island Rangers', usual position = Left Back _ greyish-brown fur, left-pawed, twin brother of #04.
#03 _ Darron Barkh _ plays for 'Imagerrie Ikons', usual position = Centre Back _ dark brown fur, left-pawed, big and strong but deceptively nimble too, the team's youngest player.
#04 _ Skorth ThunderBear _ plays for 'Island Rangers', usual position = Right Back _ greyish-brown fur, right-pawed, twin brother of #02. (These twins have astrong rapport that helps them to work very well together).

Midfielders:

#05 _ Anddurr Sable _ plays for 'Midsomer Mysteries', usual position = Defensive Left Midfielder, Team Captain _ ambidextrous, black fur, expressionless eyes, "indestructable", can not only project his voice right across the field but do so in such a way that only his intended target[s] here him, a very good player and a verrry good tactician.
#06 _ Derrak o FarWoods _ plays for 'FarWoods Rangers', usual position = Defensive Right Midfielder _ grayish-brown fur, right-pawed, in awe of (but dislikes) Andderr Sable.
#007 _ Jamz Bland _ plays for 'Multiversal Importers', usual position = Offensive Right Midfielder _ fur = light brown, right-pawed, good at getting to where his team's opponents don't want him to be, a playmaker and sometimes (usually when the opposition don't expect it) goal scorer, almost as good as he thinks he is _ off the pitch he dresses stylishly & expensively (just avoiding "flashily" too), enjoys good living and fast cars, and chases attractive females (Human as well as Ursine) who do tend to fall for him...
#404 _ Ethbahr Nevermore _ plays for 'Midsomer Mysteries', usually as Offensive Left Winger _ black fur, smaller than 'Sable' and a bit further from human than him as well, ambidextrous, he specialises in getting around the pitch without being noticed by the opposition (for example, to ensure that one of his colleagues isn't "offside" after all) and doesn't talk much.

Strikers:

#11 _ Bruettus Woaden _ plays for 'ChromaCity Champions', usual position = Left Forward _ dark brown fur with a "blue" tinge, right-pawed, tbig & strong, fairly fast but not quite as manoeuverable (or as intelligent?) as some of his colleagues; [non-identical] twin of #12.
#12 _ Bruenno Woaden _ plays for 'ChromaCity Champions', usual position = Right Forward _ dark brown fur with a "blue" tinge, left-pawed, tbig & strong, fairly fast but not quite as manoeuverable (or as intelligent?) as some of his colleagues; [non-identical] twin of #11.
#13 _ Gerray Scarrlett _ 'ChromaCity Champions', usual position = Centre Forward _ medium-brown fur with a reddish tinge, ambidextrous, a bit smaller than the twins but still quite large by human standards and surprisingly strong, fast and manoeuverable and bright, "indestructible", good at inspiring the team (of which he is Deputy Captain...).
(A fairly common tactic, when Gerray kicks off, will be for him to take the ball down-field while the Woaden twins back him up -- in a sort-of 'wedge' formation -- to discourage any attempts at tackling him & to help recover the ball if he does lose it...)

(Substitutes possibly to be added later...)
