Violations of this policy will be subject to the harshest possible penalties. If you have questions on this, or anything is unclear, please TG me any questions you have.

#1 AI Generated images- AI generated images are fine as long as they are explicitly labeled as such.
#2 AI Generated text- AI generated text is explicitly prohibited, and any instance thereof allows the host to levy any punishment as I see fit, including but not limited to zeroing out both rank and any prior earned RP bonus.
#3 AI Translation- AI translation services into English are also fine. However, the original language text should be posted in a spoiler for transparency purposes. See a good sample RP from Huayramarca that is a perfect illustration of what I am talking about.

Sport Info

As a reminder for all, this is outdoor/field lacrosse. If you need help with it, here is the Wikipedia article on Field Lacrosse. We are playing the 10 on 10 version- so your roster should have at least 10 players- the rules divide them into a goaltender, three defenders, three midfielders, and three attackers. If you have any further questions on the sport, feel free to reach out to me either via Discord or DM- I will be happy to answer any questions you may have!

Other Info

As a reminder, only the host may reserve posts. Use the draft feature if you want to put down a post mid writing and finish it later.

Any OOC host announcements will be made in the WLC Discussion Thread, so check there periodically.

This thread is ready to go, so go ahead and start posting your rosters and RP! May the odds be ever in your favor :)

National Information

The Olympic Committee of Banija welcomes NTs to the country for the 45th World Lacrosse Championships!

The Kingdom of Banija is a country that classifies itself as a semi-constitutional monarchy. A nation that is a member of Arrosia, it is led by the Kabaka(which translates to King), and the current monarch is Kabaka Mwanga. The Kabaka, alongside with the Waziri(translates to Foreign Minister), whom he picks and dismisses solely at his pleasure, is the Head of State and responsible for the country's foreign affairs. Upon reaching age 25, the Isebantu(Crown Prince), becomes the Waziri by constitutional right. The full list of members of the Royal Family can be found here.

Kabaka Sekakama has just ascended to the throne due to the extremely recent death of his great-grandfather, Kabaka Mwanga. Since he is just 6 years old, however, his great aunt Immaculate will rule in his name as the Omukama(Regent) until he reaches the age of majority(17 years old).

The elected unicameral legislature is the Lukiiko(Parliament), and the Lukiiko is responsible for governance of domestic affairs. The Katikkiro(Prime Minister) is elected by the Lukiiko. After over a decade of rule by the left, this traditionally conservative nation has shown its true colors again by electing a government led by the center-right People's Protection Movement, in coalition with the Latter-Day Alliance. The most recent election results can be found here. The Katikkiro is Boaz Gor, who is currently serving in his first term as Head of Government. A full list of his cabinet, and other leading Banijan political decision-makers, can be found here.

The established church is the Puritan Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, most commonly known as Puritan Mormonism. Well over 90% of Banijans identify as adherents to the state church, though freedom of religion is generally respected by the law and the populace. There is very little patience and open disdain, however, for atheism among the general populace. Courts are sometimes known not to enforce freedom of religion laws when it comes to those preaching atheism, which is considered an 'evil' view by many Banijans. A list of leadership of the Church leadership can be found here.

Due to the massive influence of Puritan Mormonism in this nation, they are relatively socially conservative. Abortion in this country is outlawed unless the mother's life is in danger, and polygamy for males is legal. The church's Universal Call to Motherhood, which teaches that the destiny of each and every woman is to give birth to children and raise faithful Puritan Mormons, has heavily shaped the nation's view on the role of women in society, forming the basis for Banija's prior sports gender segregation laws in the first place. Consumption of alcohol and the recreational use of marijuana in Banija is legal- other harder drugs are banned. Due to Mormon tradition and church law, the purchase/sale of coffee products is illegal within Banija- however, the consumption is not. Fans and teams are allowed to bring in their own coffee products as long as they are declared at customs, where it is then taxed per pound. Any attempt or effort to sell the product, however, can and will result in arrest.

Most people in the country speak both Olusanke, the local dialect, and English. There is a smattering of both Korean and French spoken within the country, thanks to Banija's Quebecois roots. Banija's currency is the shilling. The exchange rate to the NationStates Dollar is 25 shillings to 1 NSD. Conversion kiosks will be available at all hotels and at airports to exchange your money, as well as any banks. However, using the NSDs directly to purchase items is only guaranteed at stadiums and hotels- vendors outside of stadiums or hotels are not required to accept NationStates Dollars. Fans are also advised that street vendors will generally only take cash, although more and more will take card.

Of course, Banija was for a long time known as a developing country and more of a backwater Economically. However, due to a recent discovery of large oil deposits in Hangaza during World Cup 82, the country has been engaged in an economic miracle since then, with the country reaching true developed country status. Public transit within cities is via the boda boda, though each team/delegation will have passenger busses provided by the RTC to transport players, coaches, staff, family, etc... To and from the hotel to the games and practices. The climate of Banija has a lot of natural rainforest and jungle, which means that there is no winter, only wet season and dry season. Temperatures generally range at their coldest around 60 degrees Fahrenheit, and at their hottest around 110 degrees Fahrenheit. For the duration of the tournament, average high temperatures will range from 60 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Banijans have a tendency of being relaxed about time. While, of course, things like flights and matches will run on time, this is something that is observed generally, especially at restaurants. It is considered standard to arrive about 15-20 minutes late for a restaurant reservation, which is something Banijan authorities would like to make note of for travelling fans and visitors to the country for this tournament. This is very true for hangouts with Banijans, dates, weddings, etc... Within the country.

The largest international airports within Banija are South Moravica/Istria International(called SMI International), Jinja City International, and Busukuma International. These serve the country's two largest cities, and the nation's capitol. All teams and dignitaries, upon their arrival to Banija, will fly into Gonzaga International Airport in Busukuma before reaching their final destination. Gonzaga International has long been known as the 'VIP' airport, catering to the royals, high-ranking government officials, and those deemed of special importance by the Government of the day. Most flights will go to one of those three airports before flying to the host city.

In terms of food, Banijans are very heavy meat eaters, and you'll find plenty of chicken, goat meat, beef, pork, and turkey options on your localized menus. In terms of non-meats, popular staple foods are jollof, matoke, Chapati, a rolex, and samosas. Strictly vegan restaurants within the country, outside of Istria and Busukuma, are almost non-existent, though of course you'll find non-meat options everywhere.

Per the latest Census, the national population of Banija is 133 million.

Banija is also well-known for having flourishing and extensive wildlife. It has Arrosia's biggest population of the 'Big 5' game animals- lions, buffalo, leopards, rhinos, and elephants. It also has the region's largest population of hippos, zebra, and antelope. These animals can be found extrensively throughout safaris and savannahs in rural Banija. Banija is known for not only having the biggest populations of those animals in the region- but arguably some of the biggest wildest populations of those animals in the entire multiverse, although of course that is unverifiable. Furthermore, Banija is known for being the only country, to our knowledge, that has a wild, native, and healthy triceratops population- the only living dinosaur species in the country. These are found primarily in Bunyoro and Buganda. Banija has strengthened their relationship with Cardenao by working with native authorities to plant a wild triceratops population in Cardenao.

Locations

Istria, Moravica
Banija's largest port and largest city by population, this is in the Moravica region, in Northwestern Banija. It is a city of 4,728,000 people, and it is known as Banija's economic capitol. It is largely considered Banija's most diverse city. Historically, this city served as the second capitol city of the Kasanke Tribe, the historical predecessors of the modern Banijan nation. It is one of two Banijan cities with a major foreign population- the other being the nation's capitol, Busukuma. It has risen in status since its designation as an Olympic City, having co-hosted the XIV Summer Olympiad with Orean, Liventia. Nearly a third of the city holds citizenship of a country other than Banijan. More of those come from the Royal Kingdom of Quebec or the Busoga Islands, but people come from all over Arrosia and the rest of the multiverse. It is also known as Banija's wealthiest city and primary economic hub. It is home to Banija's oldest university, the University of Loyola-Istria, and to the country's biggest airport. It is also home to the Regional Transit Corporation, as well as the Istria Stock Exchange.

Kabonero III Field

The stadium used in Istria is Kabonero III Field, with a capacity of 48,000. This serves as the stadium for Istria City FC, the reigning S-FPL champions(in soccer). The vast majority of stadiums used are soccer stadia for this tournament, although this stadium hosted games at WLC 40.

Herzegovina City, Moravica
Banija's oldest city, the city by its current name is over 800 years old, when it was first conquered by the Kasanke people. It is a city with a population of over 2.9 million people. It is the heart of the Puritan Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The national religion was started in this city, and the church's world headquarters, the Herzegovina Temple, is the multiverse's largest Puritan Mormon church. The Bishop of this church, formally titled the Patriarch of Herzegovina, is the most senior member of the church, and the joint head of the global church, alongside His Majesty, the Kabaka. It is home to Banija's largest university, Northern Moravica University. It served as the seat of government for the Kasanke Tribe. It is also the capitol city of the Moravica region. As the original home of the predecessors of the Banijan monarchs, all reigning monarchs are buried on the grounds of the Herzegovina Temple.

Herzegovina City had their own airport finally open just prior to World Cup 83. It is not the largest airport, and much traffic is still directed through Istria. Still, it has permanent international status, and is a city looking to continuously place themselves on the map.

Kizza I Field
Capacity of 33,000. Located in Herzegovina City, Moravica

A specialty lacrosse stadium, it was built at the cost of $115 million NSDs, and funded by the local government ahead of WLC 28. The Herzegovina City Kings, Banija's most popular lacrosse team, play their home games at this stadium. It is Banija's largest lacrosse-specific stadium. It is named after Kizza I, the first chief of the Kisanke, and who's direct descendants would eventually become the Kings of Banija. It has hosted the Finals of WLCs 28, 29, and 40, as well as a number of IDLO Finals, and twice the final of the AOLC.

Sisonke, Kitara
Sisonke, Kitara, is the capitol city in the fast growing Kitara Region of Banija. With a population around 1.2 million and growing rapidly, it is a city that is trying to make a name for itself. Just about an hour south of Istria, it is considered a 'new age' city- rapid population growth in recent years makes it a great hub for single young professionals in Banija. Its rapid rise to prominence in Banija means that it is more regularly being selected to host games at major tournaments, and the excitement is palpable. It is most well known for being home to former IFCF Champions League winners, the Kitara Athletic Association.

Orange Sky Park

Orange Sky Park has a capacity of 34,000, and is situated in Sisonke. A city that is home to a growing sporting scene with everything new, it is nice to have an old vintage stadium. Orange Sky Park used to serve as both a gridiron and soccer stadium, but was converted to a baseball stadium when the brand new Keystone Stadium was built to house the Kitara Athletic Association, the city's soccer team. With its history as a multi-purpose stadium, it will be used to host games here at the World Lacrosse Championships, just like it was at WLC 40.

One Round of 12 Match

One Semifinal

Jinja City, Hangaza
This city of 3.3 million people is Banija's largest inland city, and the third largest city in the entire country, in terms of population. This city is the economic center of the Hangaza region, even if its political capitol lies towards the East, in Aissa. Despite being an inland city, it is rapidly diversifying- with migrant groups from across Arrosia, that want a cheaper cost-of-living than the traditional migrant hubs along the Banijan coastline, are moving here in bigger numbers.

Historically, the city is known for being the spiritual home of one of Banija's minority ethnic groups- the Akamba. It is also sight of the first battle of the Kasanke conquest, when they moved from the Moravican coast to take over the entirety of what is now Banija. The city is named after Banija's biggest river, the Jinja River.

BCEL Stadium

This stadium has a capacity of 52,400. Sponsored by the soft drink company BCEL from Baker Park. It was built to attract matches for the previous Baptism of Fire, and is considered one of Banija's premier stadiums. It is home to Banijan club Jinja City FC, one of Banija's Super 5 clubs. The stadium has consistently been known to host major matches at international soccer tournaments. It has hosted matches at three World Cups(81, 83, and 99), and this is the fourth WLC it will host matches at (after WLCs 28, 29, and 40).

Lacrosse isn't a thing in the Qyzzyxzyan Draconic Territories.

No-one's even heard of it, much less played it.

However, the Supreme Draconic Overlord (All Praises and Glories unto Them) heard that an international competition was occurring with a modest number of entrants, it takes place on a field, the objective is getting a ball into a net, and involves a team of close-enough-to eleven players that surely some of the local football players could make a decent stab at it?

Right?

OOC: In light of this, I have asked our host that any RP bonus I acquire to be given to everyone else, or to in some way disadvantage me. Yes, I'm playing to lose. Mostly because it would amuse me to see how people justify conceding goals to us, and should Maggie decide to award an upset ... Well ...
Update: Having corresponded with Banija via TG, I have opted out of receiving any RP bonus for the duration of the tournament. As declared here

Tactics

... not applicable ...

Go with defensively-minded, chaotic, and utterly, utterly inept.

RP Stuff

Anything and everything is acceptable and heartily encouraged.

In summary,

This is a team of various senior holy people of the various churches dedicated to the Supreme Dragonlord (All Praises and Glories unto Them) whom wear their individual monastic robes as a kit beneath an off-white sports bib (Yes, Pavl and Pepe will be sporting elaborate papal mitres), their equipment is cobbled together from whatever they could find about the place, and they don't have the first clue about how lacrosse works.

Yes, they will try to convert your players/staff/spectators/anyone who'll listen to their religion, and yes, this will provoke arguments amongst themselves over which religion is the true one. (The various sects are shown by the players adopted surnames. The Pope is meant to act as a mediator between the various sects, but with the sudden abdication of Pope Pepe I <see here>, you now have Pavl I and Pepe II bickering with each other too.)

Go crazy, have fun.

Official Roster of the reigning world champions for the 45th World Lacrosse Championships

Head Coach: Owole Kalali. 68 years old. Former head coach of the Herzegovina City Kings. Coached the men's team to a demonstration championship at the XVI Summer Olympiad. WLC 41 was his first WLC in charge- and he coached the team to their first ever world title, something Banijan lacrosse fans have been dying for., their first title in 19 editions. That first world title, beating both of Banija's traditional rivals, Sarzonia and Abanhfleft, on the way to it was a hell of a time for Banijan lacrosse. The title defense was tough, losing in the semifinals of WLC 42. WLC 43 was considered a failure, aka Banija's first time failing to podium at this tournament since WLC 35- but instead of firing him, his superiors considered it particularly unlucky- drawing, and losing to, the eventual champions in the QFs, when the team had gone unbeaten in group play. Ergo, he was back for WLC 44, and he repaid the faith of his superiors by delivering Banija's second world title, on home soil (sort of). He will be looking to mount a title defense here on the mainland at WLC 45.

After the failures of the 28th and 29th World Lacrosse Championships, and especially the 29th edition where Banija got eliminated in the group stages of the WLCs for the first time ever(on home soil no less!), everything was torn down. The Olympic Committee of Banija seized control, and voted the sport's independent governing body(a rarity in Banija) out of existence. Various reforms were introduced. Chief among them- rid themselves of those who failed. The entire coaching staff was purged, and with it, not a single player who was on the WLC 28 or 29 roster was invited back to form the WLC 30 roster. Those high up in Banija called the WLC 29 group stage elimination, on home soil, of a nation that considered themselves an international lacrosse powerhouse an 'absolute embarassment to the country' and vowed for deep reforms to ensure that this did not ever happen again.

This, of course, happened before the 30th WLCs, in Cassadaigua. The Banijans were able to escape the group stage, once again, but fell to an ancient power in this sport- Sarzonia, by a score of 10-9, in the Round of 16. It was followed by a disappointing entry at the Champions Challengers Cup, where they fell to both Baker Park and Sarzonia in West Guiana, to finish 0-2. In the 31st WLCs, the Banijans finally overcame recent struggles by geting back to where they felt they belonged, the semifinals, though they fell at that stage in Baker Park. While they regressed at WLC 32, only going .500 in the group stage and getting knocked out in the Round of 16 by the tournament's top seed, they've restructured the squad. While they kept the defense and goalies, they made big changes up top, replacing all 7 midfielders on the roster, as well as changing out a number of attacking players. The WLC 33 cycle began strongly, with the team winning the Moravica Lacrosse Invitational en route to going 6-0 in group play. However, they were downed by Sarzonia in the quarterfinals, once again giving the Banijans an early exit from lacrosse's premier tournament.

WLC 34 was the most success this team has had in quite a while. While the team only got 2nd place in their group, their 4-2 finish put them into the knockout stages. They hit their stride in the knockout stages, beating a trio of lacrosse giants- West Phoenicia, then Sarzonia, and then the Commonwealth of Baker Park, en route to their first final since WLC 21. While they were favored in the Final, HUElavia was one better, downing the Banijans by a score of 14-9, as they came out of nowhere, in their first ever WLCs, and found themselves crowned champions of the world. After a quarterfinal elimination WLC 35, Banija was back at it in WLC 36, going undefeated in the group stages, including an upset victory over longtime rival Abanhfleft, who have delivered Banija so much pain in this sport while we have failed to return the favor.

They reached the semifinals, before playing their dreaded Fleftic opponents. There was a sense of optimism in the camp brought to them by their AO championship that preceded this tournament. But an Abanhfleft team that looked down and out brought the high-flying Banijans down to Earth, reminding us exactly who was the boss in this sport as they eliminated us once again in the late stages of this tournament, en route to their record sixth title. To follow it up with more pain, we played our other chief rival in this sport, Sarzonia, in the WLC 37 Semifinal. Once again, a high-flying Banijan team was brought down to Earth by an archrival, and Banija simply watched from the sidelines as our fierce regional rivals won their sixth ever WLC title, while Banija went on to pick up our record fifth third place finish at this tournament.

The Banijans, particularly in recent years, have been on the brink of glory in this tournament. They have been to the WLC Semifinals for four consecutive tournaments- and despite finishing on the medal podium all four times, they had yet to lift the big one. After that semifinal loss at WLC 37, the Banijans went to WLC 38 with a mission- we will not fall until we reach the sport's highest pinnacle- the WLC Final. And in three successive tournaments, we reached the Final. And in all three tournaments, we faced Sarzonia in the Final. That era of pain relegated us to simply the largest footnote in the story of Sarzonia- a record dominant run by them, 4 straight world titles in this sport. For those last three titles, we lost to them in the Final of each of those tournaments- smoked in WLC 38, lost by only 3 goals in WLC 39, and in WLC 40, on home soil no less, we were dominated once again as the Stars made the case they were the greatest team not only in the world at the time- but the greatest team to ever play the sport.

Gut wrenching pain. Many thought that WLC 40 Final would destroy the soul of Banijan lacrosse. So much hope, and all of that- crushed. So close to the mountaintop- but the final challenge of it seemed simply unassailable. Playing it in front of our own fans seemed to make no difference either. The head coach, Allen Budaye, the coach in all of those WLC Finals, who had reached age 70, called it quits. "I couldn't take those WLC Final losses anymore." He told reporters in his retirement press conference. "Too painful- too brutal." With the XVI Summer Olympiad coming up, however, time stops for no man. There was hope that the Banijans would be able to claim glory at that tournament. And they were.

A big fat asterisk, of course, because the sport was a demonstration event. But still- the Olympics aren't known for their consistency, and yet, here they were. Both Banija's men's and women's teams went to the Olympics, and dominated. Neither lost a game as they both had undefeated runs, celebrating with each other as they each took home victories at the demonstration events. While they weren't Olympic gold medalists- still, both the men and women held world championships, of a sort. They could call themselves something that very few could do- Olympic champions. Might be forever, as well- lacrosse hasn't been played at the Olympiad since.

The NT hired the men's Olympic coach for its unified team, hoping for greater results at WLC 41. And it turned out, yes- the Olympic titles were indeed a foreshadowing of Banija's greatest moment in this sport. WLC 41 saw Banija face down both of their archnemisi in this sport- the Sarzonians(modern), and Abanhfleft(historic). The Banijans shocked many by overcoming both. Sarzonia had eliminated Banija in the late stages from the prior four WLCs, including three finals in a row. The Banijans triumphed in the WLC 41 Quarterfinals, beating them in overtime to end their championship streak at 4. Then, a massive contest against Abanhfleft- where we scored one of our greatest wins in history, to knock them out of a tournament.

First time defeating Sarzonia and Abanhfleft in the same tournament. One last hurdle remained- an undefeated, and top seeded, Delaclava, in the WLC Final. But were simply going to be denied no longer, as we finally excised our demons and won our first ever WLC title. The hunt was over. We are still reigning double Olympic champions- and after WLC 41, we also held the proper title of world champions of lacrosse.

The fear started to rise that this would become a distant memory, however. A semifinal loss at WLC 42, followed by a QF loss at WLC 43, meant that hunger rumbled in the stomachs of Banijan lacrosse players once more. But they came out with much to prove at WLC 44- especially after suffering a shock, opening match upset defeat against Quebec. While they flew out of the gates to earn a win against Sarzonia, they never quite looked at their level in the group stages, they kicked it up a couple of notches in the one & done phase of the tournament- winning 24-5 in the QFs, and then 20-3 in the semifinals, to set up a winner-takes-all final against Baker Park. And in one of the great matches of our age, Banija earned a dramatic overtime win to defeat the World #1s, and earn their second world championship.

Now, the question is- will they reach the Final in Herzegovina City to defend that title?

The United Autonomous Provinces of the Visayas Islands, commonly called Visayas Islands, is a federal parliamentary constitutional monarchy nation in the Asian part of the Tinga. The Visayas Islands covers 71,503 square kilometers and has has an estimated population of 21,155,014. The Visayas Islands comprises of 15 autonomous provinces, 3 autonomous provincial districts, a metropolitan district, 6 major islands, an autonomous independent state, and 3 disputed territories.

Lacrosse might not be too popular with the Visayan population, but it's popular between students in high school and in universities and colleges all over the islands. It was brought into the capital city of Iloilo by Spanish Jesuits returning from missions in French-speaking parts of Canada, specifically Quebec. Now provincial teams compete for the Datu Sumakwel Cup. Mostly won either by Leyte Oriental or Iloilo.

After the match, the team went to the fans and sing together a patriotic ballad called, "Visayas". It was written by Ramiro Enríquez, a schoolteacher and a composer in Antique, whose song gave it to the late Jacinto "Jas" Narvaja, who gave life to the song. It wasn't intended to have that in the first but whem Nonoy Zarzuela sang the opening lines, the whole crowd joining in, it goes to basketball and until now, every sport as a post-match victory song.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL LACROSSE TEAM

Abanhfleft has been taking part in the World Lacrosse Championships so many times that people have actually lost count as to how many times it actually has been, but what is important to note is that Abanhfleft has been crowned champions of world lacrosse six times in their history. For reasons that can be simply summed up as "it's the best thing we've done in a while," the Democratic Republic sent forth their women's national lacrosse team for their first seven appearances in the competition. The women's team, led by the "Fearsome Threesome" of Menan Alrisheb, Fatima Alsambis, and Cecilia Cuvimi, managed to win third place in their first ever tournament WLC XIX, beating the Serbian Empire to nab the bronze from under the veteran nation's noses. They went on to win back-to-back titles in WLC 22 and WLC 23 before a miserable performance in WLC 24 saw them eliminated in the group stage, but they have come back to win it all once again in WLC 25 to set history as the first nation to win three titles in four attempts. It was then decided that it was time to switch things up, and so for the first time in WLC history, Abanhfleft sent forth a mixed team of men and women to play international lacrosse in WLC 30. And they came close, but were still unable to snag the ultimate prize, losing to the eventual winners Wrexwic in the final. Eventually, finally, Abanhfleft did pick up another title on home soil in WLC 32; unfortunately they were unable to defend it in WLC 33, and were only able to collect the bronze in Jeckland. Victory was achieved yet again in WLC 35, and the objective of becoming a six-time lacrosse champion was achieved immediately afterwards, in WLC 36. Abanhfleft couldn't stop Sarzonia from picking up title number six in Baker Park, and then the repercussions of the Ripperidone scandal affected the team during WLC 38, forcing them out at an earlier time than usual. The team came close to bowing out of the group stage in Cassadaigua, but a late surge saw the Amazons sneak into the playoffs, only for Banija to finally get one over their eternal lacrosse rivals in the semifinals. However, it wasn't actually Banija that the Amazons should have been afraid of but Sarzonia, who went on a streak of four straight titles before finally slowing down. And while Abanhfleft has come close numerous times, once again they've been beaten back from picking up lucky title number seven. Perhaps this is the moment when everything changes.

The history of lacrosse in Abanhfleft is both long and short, in that it has been in the country for a long time, but a concise summary of said history can be written down in just ten to fifteen sentences or maybe more. Lacrosse was introduced in Abanhfleft by vacationing Canadian college students and expatriates who missed playing the game. The first truly Fleftic lacrosse players came from association football and field hockey backgrounds, and these players played in seasonal lacrosse clubs to augment their salaries during their respective sports' offseasons. The first national lacrosse league in Abanhfleft was established in 1929, and was composed of 7 teams coming from the Capital Islands. The Fleftic national lacrosse league system adopted its current franchise format in 2001, with the National League (now called the Lacrosse League of Abanhfleft) separating itself from the pyramid and becoming an independent organization of its own right. The Fleftic Lacrosse Federation (Samahang Lakros ng Abanhfleft or SLA) was established in 1930 to manage the leagues, and to see to the creation of a national team. The Abanhfleft men's national lacrosse team played its first game in 1931, where they lost 1-0 to a team of Montreal college players.

1963 saw the first attempts to introduce women's lacrosse into Abanhfleft. Women's lacrosse had vastly different rules from men's lacrosse, and while these programs saw some success in the mid-sixties, Fleftic women decided that the rules of women's lacrosse were "too soft," and simply adopted the rules of men's lacrosse. When the women's national lacrosse team played its first games in 1969, they surprised many other teams with their extremely aggressive style of play, the likes of which were more usually seen in men's lacrosse games. This led to many incidents of broken legs, broken arms, broken ribs, broken jaws, and so on and so forth. Eventually, the SLA established another women's team, this one focusing on women's lacrosse rules. Teams playing Abanhfleft are well-advised to treat the women like men because the girls will certainly treat their opponents like Fleftic men.

They have won six World Lacrosse Championships, winning in WLC 22, 23, 25, 32, 35 and 36. Starting in WLC 26, the team entered a rebuilding stage in which it maintained its ranking in the multiverse as much as possible without really challenging for the title. But in WLC 30, the SLA declared the rebuilding done, and the national team backed up this announcement with a deep playoff run that went all the way to the final, where they were unfortunately stopped by Wrexwic. Abanhfleft fell in the Round of 12 against hosts Baker Park in WLC 31, but the Amazons would come out on top of the lacrosse world once again after winning the championship on their home soil in WLC 32. Fortunes have been up and down in more recent times though; while the team crashed out of the quarterfinals in WLC 33, they were able to collect a third place finish in WLC 34. The team plowed through the tough schedule created by the Casaran format in WLC 35, proving the adage that "you can only beat the teams in front of you" true. One of those teams would be Vangaziland, a fellow serial winner in the competition, and in a final sure to go down as a classic, Abanhfleft emerged as 9-6 winners to lift their record-equaling fifth title. In WLC 36, the objective was to break the record and snatch it from Sarzonia, who were also planning to do the same. The Amazons defeated the Stars in the quarterfinals of WLC 36, and the team beat such giants as Banija and Cassadaigua to lift the World Lacrosse Championship for the sixth time. Now, the mission is simple: seven in 37.

Nickname: The Amazons
Colors: All white with blue, orange, and green stripes on the waistline and yellow numbers in a red circle (home kit); all red with yellow letters and numbers (away kit)
Style: Abanhfleft is an attacking team. The legacy of football and hockey players dabbling in lacrosse in its early days in Abanhfleft has resulted in a playing style that emphasizes getting the ball up front for chances to score. This, however, leaves the defense a bit thin, as at least two midfielders join the attackers in forays up to the goal, leaving behind only the defenders and the keeper. The midfield makes up for this by rushing back to their positions as soon as the opponents have acquired the ball.

Harea Odolgarria is a small, mountainous island nation with a population of approximately 4.6 million people, roughly 1.1m of which live in the capital city Zaldi Zuria.

The island has a warm, dry summer climate with typical temperatures in the hot, dry summers ranging between 26-34C and generally holding between 5-15C through the mild, wet winter months. The island's geography is dominated by the Harlequin Hills mountain range, with the inland territories being hilly and local populations maintaining a proud tradition of humble hill farming and animal husbandry. Zaldi Zuria sits in the foothills of the Harlequin Hills, and has developed over millenia out of an ancient military fortifications into a modern, if modestly sized, cosmopolitan city. Zaldi Zuria, named after a (probably apocryphal) myth of a ancient conquering general being thrown from his white stallion as soon as embarking onto Harean soil, is the capital and largest city of Harea Odolgarria, with a population of approx. 1,000,000 as of 2024. The city has evolved over time around a series of costal military installations, having been first established several centuries ago within the foothills of the Harlequin Hills geological range along the nation's south coast. Fort Hope was the largest and most severe of these fortifications, which collectively housed the garrison of troops which guarded the island due to it's status as a key hub international trade and commerce since the earliest records of maritime mercantilism.

The Northwestern portions of the island are home to historic mining communities, connected by costal highways to the industrial heartlands along the Island's eastern portion. The hinterlands give way to a network of small rural communities, populated by proud, hard-working farmers.

Lacrosse is the country's most popular sport in terms of national annual participation - with popularity across both genders at all ages of children giving it the edge over Rugby 13s (which is largely seen as a more serious, adult game). Any visitor will quickly recognise the marauding groups of teenagers with sticks slung over their shoulders ambling to or from the municipal pitches which can be found in almost every city, town or village square, or gaggles of young children entertaining themselves with games of "wall-ball" in any suitable public space
Due to the country's climate and the resources required to maintain grass pitches, most spaces for casual and amatuer competition take place on hard courts, either indoor or outdoor (similar to public basketball or handball courts in other countries)

The national Lacrosse championship (LaxLiga) was established in 2020, originally with just six clubs but since 2022 this was expanded out to eight. The current league champions are expansion club Libertas, who had a historically bad first season in the competition before leaping up to second in the 2023 iteration and then doubled their all-time wins to claim the crown in 2024. Fellow class of '22 expansiontists Excelsior are another of the league's top teams and claimed their national crown in 2023 along with LaxLiga originals and 2022 champs Galaxy. The historically weakest team in the competition is the (ironically named?) Fortuna, who hold the humbling, unwanted league records for most all time defeats, fewest all time wins, lowest all time win percentage and most all time goals conceded.

In keeping with the game's near ubiquitous popularity amongst the country's youth, the average profile of a LaxLiga professional tends to be in their early to mid 20s, with anyone over the age of 30 generally being seen as an "old hand". This may be partly due to the limited history of the league, and that the age profile will raise as the seasons roll by. None the less, it certainly seems to help attract and engage the fans, with crowds at LaxLiga games being full of school kids, university students and young families.

Like the other most popular sports in Harea Odolgarria, lacrosse is still very much in the phase of translating common popularity into a strong professional set up, with a Women's LaxLiga earmarked for the 2025 season in a push to promote and develop the women's game alongside the men's. Due to not having a professional women's game yet, the country's governing body has elected to send a squad of only male players selected from LaxLiga teams.

The official marketing and branding for the Harea Odolgarria national team has given the squad the moniker "the SeaWolves", a small hint at the country's cultural attachment to the sea and the the infamous piracy and smuggling that has been intertwined with the historical naval trade networks.

The WLC45 marks Harea Odolgarria's first steps onto the world stage in any form of international sport and there is a terrific hunger all over the island for their boys to step and represent their small but passionate, patriotic and proud country

This inaugural foray into the global game has, seemingly quite sensibly and logically, to the most historically successful Head Coach in LaxLiga history. Dennis Peters has been the man in command for all five seasons at Galaxy, steering them to a national title in 2022 and racking up a LaxLiga best of 34 all time league wins at a terrific 54.83% win rate. The one black mark against Peters' record is the dreadful 2023 season where Galaxy crashed to bottom of the league (although it should be noted that a raft of his key players missed significant minutes through injury over the season). The 2023 term is largely seen as an anomyly, as Galaxy have finished in the LaxLiga top 3 in every other season.

Unsurspingly, the squad is stocked full of players from the most successful teams in the league. Overall, the squad is a rather unsurprising tale of the have's and have-not's, with oft-strugglers Fortuna, Panthers and Olympia only fielding one player each while current LaxLiga champs Libertas send forward six, while Galaxy, Victoria and Excelsior both pony up 4 squad members.

Every indication seems to suggest that Peters will look to replicate the traits that his Galaxy teams have been famous for. Expect defence to be punchy, compact and disciplined with high degrees of physicality used to leave opposition attackers elect between between shooting from long range from the centre of the pitch, or take the space out wide for highly unfavourable angles for shots on goal. In possession, the SeaWolves look to shape up with a patient, methodical build up leaning on the midfield's smooth stick skills and passing and waiting for the electric and athletic movement of the attackers to find space and create shooting opportunities.

The fans are passionate and full throated in their support for the team, but seem realistic in their expectations of success

Sea Wolves embrace Underdogs label

With the buzz and excitement around Harea Odolgarria's first experience of international sporting competition at the WLC45, the size of the task ahead of them is slowly but surely starting to dawn on the nation's lacrosse fans

There is no other way to describe the Hareans than untested and unproven on the world stage, having literally never played an international fixture in their history. Well, the fates saw fit to line them up with quite literally one of the hardest possible tests of all in Match Day 1 of LWC45 - none other than the six time world champions, ranked #5 in the world, 4th overall seed for this competition, The Amazonians - Abanhfleft.

Hareans are generally a positive and optimistic people, but a debut contest of this magnitude is cause for concern even amongst the most confident of supporters. Some online chatter is suggesting that the SeaWolves can consider the opening fixture a complete success if they lose by fewer than 25 goals.

But that doesn't seem to be the view taken from within the playing squad.

Defender John Winsloe, who plays for current LaxLiga champions Libertas, sat down to field questions from the press and had this to say about MD1 vs the Amazons

"Yeah look, we're not silly. Their pedigree is pretty much unmatched, but there was always going to be at least one top, top side so we knew we'd be in this position at some point. And eh, they're the yardstick, right? This is how we judge where we're at, really assess what we do well and where we need to improve. You have to relish these kind of challenges."

When asked about if there's ever a good time to face a side of Abanhfleft's quality, Winsloe said "I'd say this is the best possible time. This is a free hit, really. No expectations, world's writing us off - what's to lose? If we can snatch a win then everyone's happy, if we get beat then there's still five more group games to look forward to."

"Again, make no mistake of how good Abanhfleft are and no doubt will be. But we always have to look for positives. They've not won a World Cup for what, 9-10 cycles now so there's going to be a lot of pressure and expectation on their squad. They're a bit older, as a team, as well. Maybe we can get some opportunities there with younger, maybe fresher legs, work them hard, make them run around and show they've got to earn everything against us."

Abanhfleft are (in)famous(?) for their traditions of tough, physical play since the days of their bruising women's team of the 1970s, but Sea Wolves HC Dennis Peters is also known for promoting a stout and robust attitude to the game - a style of play which Winsloe and his defensive crewmates are intending to take to heart and fight fire with fire

"I'm looking forward to it [the Amazons combative nature], I hope they bring it full-bore. This is a contact sport, that sort of style suits us down to the ground and I think the fans will appreciate seeing two sides go at each other hammer and tongs. I'm not saying we'll push them around or bully them out of the game, but I can promise you that we won't be shirking the challenge and we'll be there to answer whatever physical match up they want to lay down. If we keep the first quarter or so nice and tight, show them we aren't afraid of them and arent overawed by their reputation or the occasion? Who knows, maybe the pressure ratchet ups from their crowd and we might get some chances. It's up to us to take whatever makes itself available"

Lacrosse. The Medicine Game of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and the people of the Six Nations and beyond.

We play this game knowing full well of its origins and of its importance to the Six Nations and those who hold it in such reverence.
As such, we are proud that both our Head Coach and Captain hail from the Confederacy.

Our aim? To promote the participation of American Indian athletes in TJUN-ian sports, especially for the Confederacy.
So much so, in fact, that at least one Haudenosaunee must start each game we play - by the ruling of Lacrosse TJUN-ia.
This is to recognise the inventors of the sport while also ensuring a continued Native presence within our team.

A new era has arrived.
One which celebrates the old and encourages the new to play this medicine game.
Let the games begin once again.

Meet the Hareans - Part 1

Harea Odolgarria is a rather small nation, still emerging from dramatic social and political change through the first decade of the 21st century and as such, many outsiders find themselves unfamiliar with the culture of the island's residents.

With the imminent beginning of the 45th World Lacrosse Championship and Harea Odolgarria's first entry into international sport via their national lacrosse team, the Seawolves, this title will be publishing a series of articles designed to introduce the world to the customs, traditions and quirks of the Harean people.

Part One - Cuisine, food & drink

Harean cuisine has always been exposed to ingredients, flavours and cooking techniques from around the world thanks to consistent flow of global trade through the docks of Zaldi Zuria, but for most of the island's history these influences were restricted to the upper classes within the capital itself and made little impact on the diets and lifestyle of the farmers and labourer of the country's hinterlands.

This lead to "true" Harean cuisine enjoy rather mixed levels of prestige and popularity over the centuries. Derided for many years as simple peasant food, there was little international attention given to the culinary talents of the Hareans until the 21st century, where global food fashion tended back towards celebration of authentic, traditional cultural fare.

The dry sunny weather and warm winds coming in off the oceans creates the perfect conditions for growing fruits and large orchards can be found all over the island with the most common grown crops comprising of citrus fruits, olives, grapes, figs, cherries, quince and plums. Olive oil, wine and vinegar quite naturally therefor appear frequently in Harean cuisine, with the other popular crops either being consumed in their natural state or processed into juices, jams or preserves.

Traditional Harean breakfasts different from other cultures, as they tend not to be large, gut-busting calorific affairs full of fried meats or towers of syrup laden pancakes. It's not uncommon for breakfast to consist of small plates of whole fruits, cold cheeses and either fasgioli cotti (loaves of bread made from fava beans) or polenta made from chestnuts or or hazlenuts served with jams, fruit spreads, olive oil or cold meats. Most Hareans start their morning with the tradition "Dos Gots" or "two cups" - a cup of water and a cup of fruit juice. The most popular hot drink for a morning is generally coffee, although what is largely seen as an "authentic" Harean morning coffee comes from the traditions of the farmers and ranchers of the country's interior. When coffee reached the island back in the 19th century, farmhands saw the benefits of the drink for giving them a pep in their step for their early mornings and took their java hot, black and strong. It is known nationally as Suziri Kaetis or "Rocket Fuel" for the invigorating qualities it brings. There is a growing trend of tourists flocking to tour Harea Odolgarria in search the strongest, most potent dose of caffiene available.

Lunches tend to fall into one of three categories

Suau - a small, light meal which will often resemble breakfasts. Served cold, typically taken when one has had a late breakfast or anticipates an early dinner. Breads are often included in place of the nut polenta, with Pane Carasau (wafer thin flat bread) or Pane Sciocco often taken.

Abbolu - A hearty and nutrious handheld meal such as a sandwich, hand-pie filled with a combination of lentils mixed either meat or fish with legumes, pulses, nuts or seeds.

Terriñ - a larger, heavier meal taken a little later in the afternoon. Often in communal settings, either with family, friends or work collagues. Comes from a tradition of farm workers or first-shift industrial labourers coming together to end their work day with a shared meal. Barbequed meats and fish are often the centre pieces.

Weekend lunches are often in the form of a Terriñ on a larger scale and on particularly special occassions these can see whole streets, neighbourhoods or even villages coming together to celebrate with a feast.

Dinner or supper is typically consist of meat, fish or lentils, often stewed, served with pasta (most traditionally made from fava beans), nut polenta, farro.

Like many island nations, the people of Harea Odolgarria feel their relationship with the seas verges on the symbiotic (referred to in a popular national motto of "sali di sangu" or "salt in the blood") and as such, fish plays a major role in the diet, especially along the coastline. The most common fish used in Harean cooking are sardines, anchovies, swordfish, tuna and seabass with mollusks such clams, mussels, oysters and octopus also very popular. In the centre of the island's territory, the most popular meats tend to follow what has proved easiest to farm and hunt - chicken, duck, rabbit, lamb, goat and wild boar all appearing on the menu of almost very local bistro one may happen to stop in at.

For on the go sustainence, Hareans can frequently be seen dipping into their pockets for snacks such as pine nuts, sesame seeds, chestnuts, hazlenuts and roasted split peas.

There are two sauces which are almost completely ubiquitous to nearly any meal or dining environment in Harea - garum and salsa d'erba.

Garum is an ancient fermented fish sauce, Hareans tend to use this sauce as frequently as other cultures used tomato ketchup. It's taken with almost everything, with numerous brands being found in Harean supermarkets. It takes some getting used to as an acquired taste, but Hareans have been historically near-addicted to the stuff.

Salsa d'erba - literally translates as "grass sauce", which may well be what it was first made from, it is in fact today made from parsley. A thin, watery sauce it is usually accompanied by vinegar or garum and used to help digest an other dry abbolu lunch or over-cooked Terriñ. Much of the outside world see it is as bland, but Hareans continue to enjoy this sauce and see it as a way of honouring the hardships their ancestors had to overcome and a way of celebrating their memory.

Alcohol

What every tourist really wants to know. What to order when you hit the bars.

Beers & Ales

If you ask for "a beer" in Harea Odolgarria, you'll be given a lager. There's two main servings which can found at almost any pub or bar on the Island. Marra Berdea or Green Stripe is named after the iconic and instantly recognisable flash of colour used for branding their cans, bottles or glasses while L'Amicu di Sceccu (Donkey's Friend) is also known for it's widely marketed mascot of a laughing donkey. Some people are very strict on only drinking one brand and not the other, but most objective reviewers tend to suggest that they are both perfectly acceptable, if unremarkable, lagers which will do the trick if served at a nice, chilled temperature.

Wines

The climate of the island makes it no surprise that grapes are one of the most commonly grown crops and thus - El vino doth flow. There's no shortage of white, red or rose wines either served still or sparkling. Reds tend to have deep, velvety ruby colouring with aromas of deep, dark fruits and full-bodied palates with silky, long-lasting finishes. Whites more often carry golden yellow colours with a floral nose and a palate of citrus fruits and fresh almonds. Wine is fully embraced as part of the Harean lifestyle, especially amongst the capital's white collar workers and middle classes where a glass at lunch or at the end of the working day is not seen as unusual at all.

Spirits

Due to the prevalence of wine, grapes and other fruit crops, the most traditional native spirits are pomace or fruit brandies such as grappa. These are mostly between 30-60% strength and are taken as either aperitifs or digestifs before or after a large meal.

Although not a traditional native drink, there is a burgeoning industry of Harean distilleries producing artisanal whiskeys and gin.

The above should serve an uninitiated or unfamiliar tourist with enough information to navigate the bars, cafes, bistros and restaurants of Harea Odolgarria if in search of a classic, authentic culinary experience. For the less daring or those in search of the taste of home, most international chains and franchises can be found and all large supermarket chains carry a health world foods range with brands from most major nations around the region of Liberlandia.

Picture the scene, if you will.

You have tickets to see your country playing a lacrosse world cup group match against the something-unpronounceable-beginning-with-Q Draconic Territories.

Exciting, huh? I mean, the 'Draconic Territories' bit lured you in, right? There's a lot of crazy shit out there in the Multiverse and possibility of watching actual dragons play lacrosse? C'mon, that's got to be worth the ticket price alone.

So you've got your ticket, you're making your way in a culturally appropriate manner along a culturally appropriate road, lane, dirt-track, psychotic death-maze, etc. to reach wherever it is that your national team plays it's lacrosse. Maybe you grabbed a culturally appropriate snack or drink for the journey? Whatever, that's not important. What is important is the sight that greets you as you approach the stadium, field, bloodstained gladiatorial arena, etc.

Fourteen gaunt humans, in a variety of odd religious gowns of which some match and some clash horrendously, chanting a variety of odd songs all at once and vying with one another in terms of volume, and waving crudely made placards. Upon these placards, you can see

"Repent Heathens, and give your love to the Supreme Dragonlord"
"Arrepentíos, paganos, y haced el amor con el Súper-Dragón."
"Arrêtez les pécheurs et aimez le Maître Dragon"*

Now, I can't speak for how your native lands would react to such public displays of religious expression but let's assume for the meantime they've been allowed, tolerated, or at least not been stopped yet in their cacophonous exhibition.

Then, as you approach, you have the misfortune of making eye contact with one of them. It could of been for the briefest of brief moments, a mere iota of a fragment of time.

Regardless of length, it was still a rookie mistake.

You have been singled out, and the whole group is now chanting in your direction, gesturing towards you and advancing upon your position with the drive and determination of a seasoned and ruthlessly persistent charity canvasser.

Maybe you can turn invisible, hurl yourself down an inexplicably deep hole in the floor or spontaneously implode? If you can't do any of these things, there's no escaping now. You could try threatening violence, but given that these are peoples of a land ruled by a malevolent and unpredictable dragon, barbarity, cruelty and threats of death are commonplace to them and would not dissuade them in the slightest. Regarding this, they are also remarkably resilient and driven: they would likely continue preaching their gospel even under a barrage of police batons or similar.

So, assuming you haven't found a miraculous method of escape, you are now partially surrounded by these strange religious fanatics all talking over one another, each extolling the virtues of the Supreme Dragonlord (All Praises and Glories unto Them) in their own way. Amongst this bombardment of conversation some claim that the Dragonlord will soon rule the Multiverse and that it is in your best interest to join them, some claim that as the Dragonlord is a higher order of being that it is your duty to pledge fealty to them, others merely state that everything is fucked anyway so why not give your life to worshipping a dragon. The longer that they talk, the more likely they are to start disagreeing amongst themselves also. There are multiple 'true' paths it seems, but all of them lead to, or from, an omniscient dragon, apparently.

With any luck, a few vehement 'No's on your part should get them to back off, eventually. That, or they notice another individual to try persuade to follow their path of worship.

At this point, one can only assume that you would immediately discard your lacrosse ticket in a culturally appropriate manner, and/or notify the culturally appropriate authorities about a bunch of weird foreigners harassing the locals.

*OOC: I don't speak these languages, so used Google translate to hopefully provide some humorously inept translations, which is totally IC.
For any game they play, they will have a go at making such signs with words to the effect of 'Repent Sinners/Heathens, and love the (Supreme) Dragonlord' in their opponent's native language(s). Feel free to mention how badly they mess up their translations, or indeed any ramifications of such miscommunications.
All Praises and Glories unto the Supreme Draconic Overlord

Warkus National Lacrosse Team

Style Modifier: -3

Nation: The Unified Kingdoms of Warkus
Demonym: Warkusian(s)
Trigramme: WAR

About the team: The Warkus National Lacrosse Team was somewhat hastily thrown together at the last minute, especially on the coaching end. But we've got some good local talent and you've gotta start somewhere, so here we are. Lacrosse is not the most popular sport in Warkus, but there is a healthy domestic university league that's been running for a while. There's a bit of a 'nepo baby' phenomenon going on in the sport, as many of the national team players come from longstanding lacrosse-playing families. For example, Vincenzo Bianchi and Alessandro Bianchi are cousins.

The team is relatively defensive in style, as most domestic teams are also.

Player-Manager: Thomas Murphy, 33 y/o

Thomas Murphy serves as both the team's captain and manager. He was already serving as the head of the nation fledgling youth setup before the WLC and there's not really much great domestic coaching talent available right now, so he was able to convince the executives of Warkus Lacrosse to give him the gig until a suitable replacement can be found.

Atlantian Oceania Lacrosse Championships

Champions Challenge Cup 2
Runner-up

Previously controlled by the Universities Athletics Coalition, the sport is now governed by the Baker Park Lacrosse Association (BPLA). Dawn Thornton, the BPLA Chairwoman is currently serving her second term as President of the World Lacrosse Council.
Baker Park first entered a team in the 29th World Lacrosse Championship, co-hosted in Razenthuria & Banija; the all-female squad made up of college-aged players advanced from pool play to the knockout round.
The nation has hosted the 31st, 37th, and 42nd editions of the WLC, as well as the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Lacrosse Classic, prior to WLC 34.
While the sport in BP was traditionally a female pursuit, males participated in intramural or recreational level competition; with the expansion of game into official intercollegiate recognition, the National Team have adopted an all gender policy which has seen expansion of the player pool.

All Time Record--121 wins, 50 losses (99-36 in WLC)
Nickname--a recent revival has brought the identification of many of the nation's sporting teams as "Elks" back into modern usage; the Elk (Wapiti) is the national animal of the Commonwealth.
Style Modifier--+1.85

The Commonwealth of Baker Park National Lacrosse Team fell short of a second title in three tournaments, dropping an overtime thriller to Banija in the final in the last edition. They maintain the overall top ranking in the sport as they look to make a fifth straight semi-final berth. The NT will be undergoing something of a rebuilding project as no players remain from the WLC 42 Championship squad and eight newcomers join the squad this time, which will be the 17th appearance in the competition.

Eric Pearson chose not to return for a third stint in charge of the National Team, so Megan Ostrander takes over the top spot after having served a lengthy apprenticeship as the NT #2, much in the same way her former boss and teammate Shannon Fries did. The Belle Haven State University coach becomes the 8th head coach of the national side and second woman to lead after having played in the nation's first ever international match. She will equal Fries with her 12th time representing Baker Park either as a player or on staff.

Head Coach: Megan Ostrander
Asst Coaches: Chiara Petruccelli, Kurt Watson, Allan Underwood

Oceana—Selvey Commons (12,000)
Selvey Commons is the something close to the spiritual home of lacrosse in Baker Park; the University of Oceana's athletic teams call it home and the school has won more UAC titles in the sport (14) than any other university. Hosted matches in all three editions of the tournament that have been held in the Commonwealth.

Hannover—Fritz Schafer Stadium (14,000)
The east-central region of the Commonwealth is one of the hotbeds of the sport and The 'Fritz' was a no-brainer choice as WLC matches in the three hosted editions here were usually one of the toughest tickets to get.

Hamilton—Hamilton City Stadium (22,000)
Hosted the first time in WLC 42, but is no stranger to high profile events. West Belle Haven County has been at the forefront of the growth of the sport among men.

THE CAPTINA COMPANY LACROSSE TEAM

Captina Island's National Lacrosse Team will make their fourth appearance in the World Lacrosse Championship looking to rebound from their disappointing group stage exit in Njaza.

All time record: 7-11 (WLC 42/43/44)
National Team Nickname: Captina Island's national animal is the peacock, although it has never been used as a sporting appellation except for the Women's football NT's use of "Peahens"; the men's football team are generally known as the "Oro e Rossi" (Gold & Red) but a survey of citizens have convinced The Captina Company Sports Division to market the WLC side as the Peacocks.

A new generation of Kytlerian lacrosse talent are trying and presumably failing to resurrect the reputation of what was once the national sport. A very, very long time ago.

It's long since dissolved into being a messily-run sport of privilege, hence this Oops! All White Dudes squad with four separate double-barrelled surnames, one of which belongs to one of the squad's three pairs of brothers:

Goalkeepers:
#1 Paul Charles-Warrington
#13 Damon Fear

Defenders:

#3 Philip Hutchinson-Blake
#4 Thomas Kingston
#14 Tim Hawkins

Grand Hopes

HUElavia enters WLC 45 with hopes of not just knockouts, but with a deep run once again.

Lacrosse is back! And it returns once more to Banija, the previous hosts of WLC 44 AND the defending Champions. Even with that fact, HUElavia returns as well! And this time, Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos come in with an outside shot of winning the WLC for their 2nd time.

After a tough elimination in the knockouts in the last edition, HUElavia returns ranked No. 7 in the Multiverse with an expectation of at least the Quarter-Finals. They enter their group with the likes of Andso Mangis(UR), Baker Park(1),
The Kytler Peninsulae(39), Busoga Islands(UR) and Montagne Noire(UR). Being a Pot 2 team, there is the likelihood that Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos will be runners up and have to play in the Round-of-12 in order to try to get into the Quarter-Finals.

Yet, the team trains diligently and downplays the expectation, where they're choosing to take it a match at a time, especially where they know they have to likely tackle Baker Park, the No. 1 in the Multiverse and the defending runners up for a chance for a direct spot to the Quarter-Finals.

With a mix of experience and youth, there is great hopes that this team can make a deep run once again, and maybe, just maybe, get a chance at another WLC Final and maybe the team's 2nd ever title, after more than 40 years since their 1st title. Here's to what can be a fun and enjoyable edition of this niche sport that has sparked great interest in HUElavians once again!

'Title or bust'- Defending champions enter WLC 45 with sky-high expectations

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA- Nothing, in Banijan sport(at least among lacrosse fans), might bring the explosion of joy that the WLC 41 title brought to Banijan laceosse fans. Just the amount of times that the team was so close. WLC 21, our debut, reaching the final- and then not getting back for 13 cycles, until WLC 34. Mostly getting smacked around in big games by Abanhfleft. And then, finally getting past them- only to lose to the debutants, HUElavia, in the Final. And then, reaching the final in 3 straight cycles, of WLC 38, 39, and 40- all to lose to Sarzonia in those championship games, including one on home soil. It seemed that, no matter what we did, the title was destined to never come to Banija.

Until, of course, it did.

The Olympics came. Banija went out and dominated- both the men's and women's teams won the demonstration Olympic competitions, showcasing the depth of talent, in both genders, in this country. And with the confidence of an Olympic title driving them, they finally paired that with a world title, as those teams formed the core of the Banijan team that FINALLY got over the hump, that won WLC 41. How many close calls. How many failures. How many times did they think it was impossible- and yet, it was. And now.. the Banijans building on that. Winning at WLC 44. Back on home soil at WLC 45, the pressure to defend that title is high.

"We are a big nation in lacrosse- we may not have a ring count that matches Abanhfleft or Sarzonia, but we're every bit as good as them." Said the head coach, Owole Kalali. "People are saying title or bust, or whatever- and we don't need to put any extra pressure on ourselves. We've got a long group stage ahead, a challenging and interesting group, and I'm just focused on getting to the knockouts."

Big games ahead. The title defense will start right here in Herzegovina City, which is the heart and soul of Banijan lacrosse.

Welcome to the first cutoff for Matchdays 1 & 2 of WLC 45! Here's some Trisha Yearwood for your ears.

RP Prompt: Tell us about pets in your nation. What animals are kept as pets? Are pets common? Are they for just the upper classes, or the middle and working classes as well? And if your nation are sentient animals, what do they think of other nations keeping pets?

(Reminder that RP Prompt can be amended or ignored by users at their choosing. There is no punishment for ignoring the prompt, nor any bonus for following it).

FIRST 2 WINS FOR THE DOLPHINS
Iloilo City, Metropolitan District and Riuwiee, Abanhfleft

In their first game at the Royal Institute of the Visayas Islands at the capital city, Tito Ledesma gave some words before their first game against Natkr. He told the Blue Dolphins that they could have some fun and kick some butts against the Natkrians. Fortunately, some of the barra bravas went on to cheer on to the team, and as they come into the field, some of the smoke came in dark and light blue to intimidate the Natkrians before going to Banija. The first half went some defensive masterclasses from Salvador and Ndong to give de la Peña and Maruhom their goals that made the barra brava crazy. Even though the Natkrians responded with theirs to take a shot back at the Visayans, but Ndong had some other plans to take out the defense of Natkr and gave some chances for Watanabe and Maruhom. And in the second half, the Dolphins went on offensively on Natkr with some scores from the attacking trio. Giving it the win with the score of 15-9 for the Visayans. "We did well because we have focused on offense and some slight of defense.", says Ledesma. "Hope our next game against Abanhfleft will upgrade our game." And they go to the Fleftic capital of Riuwiee, and stayed in a hotel to hangout and held some meetings to plan for some "stuff that they're going on". But when the day arrived for the Dolphins, in the first half, Ndong take his defense himself to give to the midfield headed by Danilo Lu. Lu, on the midfield, went on to attack passing over to de la Peña to score some goals alongside Maruhom. And here comes the LSM, Isko Balmores to dominate the midfield and went on to shoot a goal over the Fleftic post and celebrated it with some 'salsa choke' he got when he was in Colombia and Ecuador and some of his teammates came in to dance along a bit. And de la Peña wants also to do the salsa choke after the goals he did, but Balmores helped him to do the dance. And another win came for the Blue Dolphins and celebrated the victory with Balmores' salsa choke celebration in front of the fans after the patriotic ballad sung by Abella and the fans and the team. "I think, it's a good thing to see our team going well in our first matches.", says Ledesma. "As my players said, they're gonna 'lock in' with our games against both Riandera at home, and Odolgarria away at home." The Blue Dolphins will face both Riandera at the university campus stadium, and Odolgarria at their backyard. Will the Dolphins continue to 'salsa choke' their way to victory?

BP off to fast start in WLC

The Commonwealth National Lacrosse Team picked up where they left off in Esportiva in the last World Lacrosse Championships, earning a pair of group stage wins to open up the 45th WLC as they seek a second title in four tournaments.

Busoga Islands provided the opposition at an energized Selvey Commons in Oceana with a crowd of about 9,500 on hand to witness the beginning of the Megan Ostrander era and the Elks shook off some early rust to cruise to a 19-10 victory that marked the team's 100th all-time win in the competition while extending their winning streak in WLC group stage play to 18 dating back to a loss away to Delaclava in WLC 41.

Matchday 2 saw a visit to Andso Mangis where the newcomers were hosting a second straight fixture after debuting against fellow first timers Montagne Noire, but the number one ranked side were not to be caught sleepwalking as they ground out a 9-3 result that keeps them atop Group C.

Baker Park will have a pair of home dates for their next two fixtures both of which will be played at Hamilton City Stadium beginning with previously mentioned Montagne Noire on matchday 3 followed by number seven ranked HUElavia; Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos and the Elks meet in the group round for the third straight edition and fourth straight tourney overall after BP won in the semi-finals at Sportsmen's Park en route to the title in WLC 42.

Sea Wolves Underway, Hardest Test Over

The Harea Odolgarria Men's National Team made their international debut in the World Lacrosse Championships in a tough-fought but ultimately one-sided contest against six time champs Abanhfleft.

The Sea Wolves undoubtly worked hard throughout the game, but were never able to really get close to the Amazons. Abanhfleft's experience and nouse meant they were expert at stepping in to put pressure on Harean ball-carriers at the perfect moment to cause a turn over and their quick transition from defence to attack made it difficult for coach Dennis Peters' defensive structures to take shape effectively, repeatedly leaving pockets of space for the Amazons to exploit. Despite the manful battling and hard-nosed tackling, Harea Odolgarria could never really get themselves in a position were a win looked likely and they ran out 10 goal losers in a difficult opening game.

The games do run through thick and fast in this competition though and Harea Odolgarria have got their campaign back on course with a reasonably comfortable 8-5 win over fellow unranked side Riandera.

HC Dennis Peters comments after the games:

"All credit to Abanhfleft, obviously. Sometimes these teams are even more impressive in the flesh, they just make the game look so easy while making it so hard to play against. I couldn't be more proud of the effort we put in, but also for the work that went into learning lessons from that game and putting things right. To bounce back from such a sour end to such a historic occasion, well beaten on debut to come back and put on a professional display to secure your nation's first ever win - really great character from the lads. So proud of the whole squad. That first one would have been amazing to win but a team like Riandera, those are must wins and we give ourself just half a chance by picking up points there."

The Sea Wolves will look to continue their positive, if tentative, first steps into international competition with a crunch match up against The Sporting Justices (also unranked) before resuming their underdogs role against early group leaders Visayas Islands. Harea Odolgarria will be hoping to spilt this pair of fixtures much like the first two - a widely anticipated defeat to Visayas Island's will be much more tolerable and less destructive to hopes of progression if full points have been secured vs the Sporting Justices.

One particularly pleasing element will be that the playing squad if currently not reporting any serious injuries, with Peters' preference for high rotation and frequent in-hame substitutions allowing every member of the outfield squad to stay fresh while also clocking up minutes.

OOC: This is all propaganda, and my opponents are welcome to decide whether it actually contains any scrap of fact within, or to completely disregard it as they see fit.
And for clarity, any insults are given IC and do not represent the views of the writer.

Image

The Greatest of Tidings doth abound from the immense successes of our Lord and Saviour's chosen lacrosse team as they doth compete in the name of the Most Fantastic Dragonlord (All Praises and Glories unto Them) against the uncouth heathens of the Multiverse!

A Thousand Blessings unto the team that did conquer those repugnant sinners of the most repulsive Harp that be'eth supposedly Golden.

A Thousand more Blessings unto the team that did rain sporting destruction upon the loathsome imbeciles that dwell 'pon the Island of Captina.

When asked by Their most humble servants for comment on our team's glorious achievements of sporting prowess in Their most awesome of names, The Supreme Dragonlord (All Praises and Glories unto Them) doth spake unto Their most loyal flock
Like, what the heck is a lacrosse?
- The Supreme Dragonlord (All Praises and Glories unto Them)

And our most humblest of followers did see that The Supreme Dragonlord (All Praises and Glories unto Them) is most humble Themself in these most terrific of victorious exploits for They see with Their most sagacious of minds that such accomplishments are commonplace, and to be expected of a team so graciously blessed by Their magnificent awesomeness. We did recognise Their word, and did see that it was good.

In our first immense triumph, Pope Pepe II (Interpapas) did proclaim the gospel unto the team of the Harp that be'eth supposedly Golden at the start of the match to which their whole team did hurl themselves prostrate upon the ground and did brayeth noisily for repentance in the eyes of The Supreme Dragonlord (All Praises and Glories unto Them) for they did see the truth of the esteemed words of Pope Pepe II.
This was but a skillful guise that did allow our most blessed squad to score unabated 15 nets goals with their blessed racquets sticks.
Thus the Harps were conquered 15-0.

Knowing with great wisdom that such holy trickery could not be called upon again for fear of prediction by the Islanders of Captina, Pope Pavl I (Interpapas) did decree a most incredible of stratagems. An effigy of The Supreme Dragonlord (All Praises and Glories unto Them) was thusly created of paper of tissue, bags of black plastic, and wood of balsa. This image of The Supreme Dragonlord (All Praises and Glories unto Them) was sanctified and blessed voraciously before being floated aloft above the Island of Captina. As the Islanders ran in panic at this godly visage, our team did scoreth 12 nets goals.
Thus the Islanders were conquered 12-0.

And thus, the current standings be as such
