How Does Influence Work?

Postby The Terren Dominion » Tue Jan 21, 2025 9:41 am

So, me and my pals just moved to a new region because our old regions name sucked, but I was wondering what impact, if any, this will have on my influence? I like my badges and want to know if I will lose influence because of this. Will I lose all influnce because I moved regions? Or does it just get reduced? or does nothing happen?

(I could be wrong, BUT) I think influence is based on how long you have been in the region. It adds up over time, and things like ban or ejects cost influence. Because of this, I do believe you will lose your influence. I'm sure somethings, such as if you're a leader or not affect it, but past that point I'm unsure. Good luck on your travels either way! (For example, even as the leader your currently at zero influence.)

Yes, your pool of influence exists independently for each region. Each day you get 2 points of influence, plus another 2 for each WA endorsement. When you leave a region your influence goes down each day until it reaches the equilibrium point; when your increasing influence in the new region is the same as your declining influence from the old one. At this point, your influence will again begin to rise as normal. It is likely you will lose your influence badges for a time, unless you're situated in a region where you can get a lot of endorsements.

Not from my experiences. I remember on my old account I left a region I had a ton of influence in for about a day, and when I came back I had zero. I do hope this has changed, though!

I don't think that it's best on residency. Take my region for example. I am the longest tenured seeing as I am the founder and governor, but I am not the most influential.

Alright well those wanting to know about me OOC (It's no one) here you go. To start with me politically, you might ask what I am. The answer? It's complicated. Socially I would consider myself a Libertarian, as I support the legalization of cannabis, reduction of government involvement, and letting people do what they wish as long as it doesn't break the law. Now Economically, I am very conservative as I support reduced taxes, mainly on the working class, I am a Protectionist, and I support reduced governmental spending. Foreign Policy wise, I am a Isolationist and support the end of American involvement in foreign countries.

Endorsements also play a role.

ahhh, ok so it will tank for a while then start going back up.

How much does it decay per day? is it 2 or more?

You gain one influence point every update, so 2 per day, and each endorsement adds +n points every update. So, Chipoli, who has 662 endos, gets 663 influence points every update

I could be wrong, but I believe it will decay until it reaches 0 for the original region pool. I don't know the exact rate of decay, but generally it'll be a lot faster than the normal accumulation of influence. At the same time though, you will be accumulating influence in the new region, so I doubt you're ever going to fully go back to 0 influence under the census page. Something like; Region A 6000 influence -> 0 influence, Region B 0 influence -> 200 influence; not exactly values just an idea.

Ok, thats quite spooky, but makes sense.
What if, by some miracle, I get more WA endorsements in the new region then I had in the old region? Does that counter the decay or at least slow it down?

What will happen is that your pool of influence in "Region B" builds up faster (+2 for each endorsement per day), so that you'll reach the point where your influence starts growing again faster. You will still go down to 0 influence in the original region, but instead of just reaching, say 200 like in my previous example, you might instead reach 400, or 1200, in the same span of time. The decay will be a little bit shorter for each new endorsement you get. If you theoretically stole all of Chipoli's endorsements today, you'd be back growing in less than a week (at a rate of 1,342 influence per day in the new region).

Final question, what happens if I hop back and forth between the regions every other cycle? Could I do that to slow the decay in the first region while slowly building up in the second?

No, the rate of decay is always going to be faster than your rate of accumulation, so in net, by jumping back and forth, you would lose more influence over all.
