[DRAFT] Regulate the Size of Commercial Vehicles

Postby Grandma EK » Mon Jan 20, 2025 2:57 pm

The World Assembly,

Recognizing complaints across many nations of The World Assembly about the lack of regulation around the size of commercially available vehicles,

And taking note of the fact that many companies are making vehicles too big for parking spaces, too big to see over on roads, and even too big to fit in a single lane of smaller, older roads,

And acknowledging the fact that companies will make vehicles as big as possible to sell them for more money, as there is no regulation around the sizes of these vehicles,

Hereby enacts that:

1. Commercial vehicles must be able to fit in all existing parking spaces and road lanes, and commercial vehicles must not be more than 10 feet of height.
a. Commercial vehicles also must not have dangerously bright headlights.

2. Existing, and in use commercial vehicles in violation of this law will be exchanged for free for new vehicles that do fit regulation.

3. This law only regulates commercially available personal vehicles, vehicles such as school busses and semi-trucks are not affected.
a. This law on regulates land vehicles

So wait...

You're wanting to enact regulation on commercial vehicles, but then specifically say not commercial vehicles but personal vehicles, and exempt the most common commercial vehicles (semi-trucks).

What about commercial vehicles that are not meant to sit in a parking lot, like construction vehicles?

I feel like what you want to limit is the size of private personal commuter vehicles and confused that for vehicles sold commercially to private commuters as "commercial" vehicles...

By commercial I mean not heavy machinery used for jobs, I mean like pickup trucks and cars

But construction vehicles are commercial vehicles, as they are used for a commercial purpose.

And "pickup trucks and cars" are most commonly used as commuter vehicles, not commercial vehicles.

You can see my confusion now, yes?

I think the subject of this proposal is too specific and uncontroversial to merit a WA resolution. I'd expect that most nations who have a minimum good faith towards road safety would already have regulations on this matter.

I don't think this fits the bill for international legislation, and I'm having a hard time understanding the justification for it at the national level.
