Am I a politician? No. Am I attempting to be a decent human being? Yes. Am I trying to make friends? Yes.E s t r u s wrote:You don't always have to win the debate. Discussions are only there to learn more.
Yeah, but… I’m talking about the immediate aftershocks. When everyone’s thoroughly turned against me, and my self-loathing is most potent.

No. In this way, a person simply closes in his or her own bubble and does not allow other opinions that can improve knowledge in a particular area to pass through. Anyone will never be right in all areas. Every person is wrong.

This, right here. Every person, quite simply, deserves damnation. We are all sinners, and all of our perspectives are relativistic. Only through the guidance of Our Lord And Saviour may we gain a taste of objective reality.

Who needs friends, you just have to be right. Also the AN is wrong.

It's true that you shouldn't have friends. But that doesn't mean you have to give them up. It is true that in a discussion, the main thing is to prove your point. But that doesn't mean it will be the right one.
Don't take the discussion as something personal. Every argument your opponent makes that destroys yours is an opportunity to research the issue better, gain knowledge, and then come back with a vengeance with other, more powerful arguments.

I really hope this is just a bit of joking for how a politician wins a debate, but judging by how seriously OP seems to be about this topic, I think you should knock off this attitude.Kasdados wrote:Yeah, but… I’m talking about the immediate aftershocks. I can kind of relate to that, very socially awkward in school, especially as my opinions tend to be different than most in my class, I would stick to being quiet, similar self-loathing issues as well. I feel like the thought that "everybody hates me now because I said a wrong thing" is quite silly in hindsight, at most they may care for like a day and move on. You should be able to express your opinions freely, and if they turn out to be wrong, it does not matter, maybe the other person also learnt from your own statements, and they really don't mean any harm. You can try adding any additional points, because that does not count as a defeat, you both learnt something from this experience.
And, if you don't think you can deal with these aftershocks, then maybe take a small break from debating, maybe try consolidate your own opinions as well as constructive arguments, then you will be more confident in your thoughts. And, do your best to ignore those toxic arguments, retaliating just makes it worse, ignore them, and they will have no one to insult

Why do you even have to say anything to yourself if you stop taking it as something personal? Losing is just a part of life. It's inevitable, so the only question is how to perceive this loss: as an opportunity or as a punishment.Kasdados wrote:But, still - what should I tell myself after loosing an argument? Aside from the fact that it isn’t personal, of course.
