Is Chivalry Misogynist?

Postby High Earth » Wed Jan 15, 2025 8:36 am

Hello everyone, seeing as I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with me and fix it recently (with the New Year and whatnot) I have decided that I have been raised up to be chivalrous, and in this society, I am not sure if that is a good or a bad thing. Full disclosure, I am a straight male, so keep that in mind.

I was raised to have a special kind of respect for woman. I always offer to carry things for women, and I also always hold the door for them. If I ever get a wife, I hope to provide enough money for the family that my wife has the option to stay home with our children if she wants to do so.

So, I officially ask the Intellectual gauntlet that is the nationstates forums: Is Chivalry Misogynist?

Absolutely not.
There really isn't something wrong with just being a nice person. If a woman (or even a gay man, you could say) didn't like it, they wouldn't let it keep happening. There's a reason chivalry's been "taught" for a long time. It's just the nice thing to do, nothing wrong with that.

Most definitely not. Chivalry is essentially niceness, applied upon a more grandiose, romantic scale - dumbed down by the modern day.
Aussie Patriot. Proud grandson of Greeks - prouder Son of Our Lord And Saviour. Passionate lover of creative writing, the bridge betwixt the realms beyond our own and the comprehension of our minds. Aspergers is its name, awesome is its game. Suave gentleman, debonair intellectual, kind soul. Lover of history, of politics, of civilisation. Devotee of Tolkien, of Frank Herbert, of George R. R Martin - the forgers of worlds. Supporter of Thomas Aquinas, of Aristotle, of Marcus Aurelius. Opponent of blasphemers, of uncreatives, and impolites.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law" — Galatians 5:22-23.

It's a misogynist as not putting the toilet seat down in a house full of girls.

EDIT: to make things clear I'm saying that it isn't.

No one here practices actual chivalry. Opening a door for women isn’t chivalry (and really you should be owning doors for everyone).

No. Respecting women is good and is the opposite of misogyny. Also being straight is opposite of misogyny adjacent. If you are able to respect women and have romantic interests in women then you by definition cannot be a misogynist.

Depends on how you go about it.

If youre chivilrous because you want to be respectful to women and you extend the same respect to people who arent women, then no

If youre chivilrous because you think women need your help or are simply less than men and therefore need protection, then yeah thats kinda sexist

Chivalry can either be based or cucked depending on how you implement it. Almost exclusively, it is cucked, though.

If you show women a special kind of respect that you do not show other people merely because they are women, then if anything that's misandrist.

But, as Samicana points out, to do favours to other people because you doubt their ability to be autonomous is not any kind of respect at all.

What if men do not think you need the help or are less than a man but open the door for women because that is the courteous thing to do? Does that make you want to sock them?

I have no idea why you would think that
A) Misogyny is sexist.
B) Your sexual orientation has anything to do with this.

If you treat them in a superior way because you think they are better, that's cucked.

If you treat them expecting something in return (which let's be honest, it's sex, what else could be?), it depends on whether you are successful or not if you are cucked or based.

But that's just my opinion, as based is a subjective term.

Actual chivalry had almost nothing at all to do with women - it was mostly about keeping mediaeval knights from slaughtering each other left, right, and centre.

Is Chivalry Misogynist?

If we consider misogyny as a type of sexism that can lead to women being treated as inferior to men and that having doors opened and being protected is regarded as inferiority rather than esteemed sure. But that is a broken line of thought that is trying to convolute manners to be damaging.

Is Chivalry Misogynist? No. But some might act or think as if it was. If they do-disregard their opinion because even if it was misogynistic it is still worthwhile.

If we are doing military comparisons, I have different tech levels match whatever your nation is to the appropriate level. If you are PT, imagine a set redneck guerilla warbands fighting so that their families aren't wiped out by famine and raiders. My goal in this is to be able to line myself up against any nations (along their timeline and tech level) whether they are based in 1974 or 80859. As such the numbers from PMT on are a bit soft.

As long as you aren't forcing anything onto woman (or men) its perfectly fine. Just be a good person in general and nobody will question your motives.

I don't have his quotes on hand, but Galloism had an excellent point on other threads when he pointed out that stereotyping men as the people who do stuff and women as people to whom stuff is done is absolutely sexist and that this sexist stereotyping is harmful to men and women.

He also points out that women have an ingroup bias and men a out group bias. Taking Gal's word as law we reach the conclusion nothing is going to be done about said bias.

Even if it is sexist to either side still worth doing.

But that isn't the question. He asked if its misogynist. It's completely unrelated to either side playing victim.

Sure, men suffer, as do women. But the point of this thread is target towards woman's suffering.
