Based on the iiwikiii I see it says Safiloa was resistant to colonialism. Was it completely resistant that it didn't get colonized by another country? If so what was the strategy to avoid it? Did the nation already have similar or even better technologies than the colonial powers?

Sorry if this question is kinda long but resistance to colonial powers has always fascinated me. Especially with irl examples like Ethiopia.

The Qarmatians were the first outside colonialist power to try to assert dominance over the inhabitants of Safiloa in 9th to 11th century, until the fall of the Qarmatian state. In the 16th century, Portugal came into the picture and they were able to colonize the some parts of the coastline. Catholic Jesuit priests were sent in to convert the inhabitants from their heathen ways however a small albeit scary enough number of them went native after living among the inhabitants. The once coastal city of Potilena ("Porto Olentia" in its heyday) is still home to a small fort and a small colonial quarter that guarded the mouth of one of the most important rivers, the Ootsi. Potilena is now simply a small seaside "oldtown" suburb of the much larger Ponaiga metropolitan area - the capital of Safiloa.

The Omanis - supported by the Ottomans - initially allied with many Safiloans against the Portuguese. The Portuguese were kicked out.

In the 17th century the United East India Trading Company (also known as the Dutch East India Company/VOC) again colonized most of the island, this time with more success leaving numerous buildings. However, due to their exploitative practices and harsh treatment of the local population, resistance movements emerged among the Safiloans. The VOC's dominance began to wane as these movements gained strength, with Safiloan leaders leveraging their deep knowledge of the island's geography and fostering alliances with rival European powers. The Dutch, French, and British during the 18th century both vied control over the island and the native government was able to maintain some semblance of authority as long as it played between the French and British.

By the late 18th century, the VOC's control was further undermined by its financial struggles and the broader decline of Dutch influence in the region. This left the island in a precarious state, with the French and British vying for control. Some regions returned to Safiloan self-governance, while others remained under the shadow of French and British influence.

The VOC's legacy is still evident in Safiloa today, particularly in the form of architectural remnants such as warehouses, administrative buildings, and churches in the port cities of Potilena and Kaivaga. These structures have been repurposed into museums, cultural centers, and marketplaces.

In the late 19th century, during the Scramble for Africa, Safiloa was officially ceded to the Kingdom of Italy through the Treaty of Berlin in 1884-85, which formalized colonial claims across the continent. The Italians sought to exploit the island's strategic position and natural resources, particularly its fertile agricultural lands, spices, and access to important maritime routes.

Italian rule introduced a wave of infrastructural projects, including roads, railways, and ports, primarily to serve colonial interests. However, these developments often disrupted local systems of governance, economy, and culture. Safiloan communal landholdings were seized and redistributed as plantations worked by coerced labor. The Italians also attempted to impose their language, religion, and customs, fostering resentment among the local population.

Resistance to Italian colonial rule was widespread and persistent. Safiloans used both armed uprisings and passive resistance to undermine the colonial administration. By the early 20th century, these struggles had coalesced into a broader nationalist movement advocating for self-determination and the revival of Safiloan culture. Unlike the Portuguese and Dutch structural remnants, most of the Italian structures were either demolished and vandalised beyond repair.

Safiloa’s main line of defense is structured around three distinct forces, each with specialized roles that reflect the nation’s unique cultural and strategic needs:

Coastguard: Safiloa’s extensive coastline and reliance on maritime trade make its Coastguard the backbone of national defense. Equipped with modern patrol vessels, radar systems, and a network of coastal outposts, the Safiloan Coastguard is responsible for safeguarding territorial waters, combating piracy and (illegal) fishing, and conducting search-and-rescue operations. It also plays a crucial role in monitoring and protecting the rich biodiversity of Safiloa’s marine ecosystems.

Gendarmerie: Serving as a hybrid military-police force, the Gendarmerie bridges internal security and national defense. They maintain order in rural areas, respond to emergencies, and collaborate with local communities to uphold Safiloa’s communalist principles. The Gendarmerie is known for its strong emphasis on ethical conduct and cultural sensitivity. It's not particularly large.

Boluan Guards: This gender neutral elite force of left-handed protectors is steeped in tradition and serves as the ceremonial and functional guardians of Safiloa’s governmental institutions. Named after Bolua, one of bodyguards and martyrs of Mazdak — the Boluan Guards are rigorously trained in martial arts, counter-espionage, and crisis response. Their left-handedness, historically regarded as a sign of exceptional skill and uniqueness, adds to their mystique. Stationed at key government buildings and during state functions, the Boluan Guards are both a symbol of Safiloa’s sovereignty and a formidable line of defense against internal and external threats.

If you have to choose only one fundamental principle/ideal of Safiloa, which one are you picking?
Right-center Constitutional Republic on a (sub)tropical island, with advanced technology and a strong, resilient military.
We strongly believe in secularism, national security and meritocracy.
NS stats are canon, but the first information source are factbooks.

Safiloa has never had a military junta, as since its independence from the British, Safiloa has never had a military. The Coastguard is the largest armed force within the country.

Tough one, I would say Nóngjiā (in English “Agriculturalism”).

It encompasses the Agrarian in nature community-centered approach of the government toward giving equity and delegating land/resources to the people. Agriculture whether it be fruits, rice, or even seaweed is a substantial part of the culture and economy (along with eco-tourism and offshore banking).
