ALLIANZ LIGA TOQUE

Image

The Allianz LigaToque was started in 1931, after 11 years since tapity came to the Islands. Where the provincial teams of Capiz, Iloílo Province, Guimaras, and Federal Canton joined by Antique in 1947 and Aklan in 1962 battle it out to be the kings of Tapity. The first winner was the Federal Canton, who won 14 times. But the team with the most championships is the Iloílo Province Lightning, winning 17 titles. The Iloílo Province-Federal Canton was a behold to sight in the world of Panayense tapity. The current reigning champions is Capiz, beating Antique 25-13.

NAME: Autonomous Sporting Union of the Autonomous Province of Aklan (Unión Deportiva Autónoma de la Provincia Autónoma de Aklan)
NICKNAME(S): Los Guerreros (The Warriors), El Vinotinto y Oro (The Red Wine and Gold), Los Atis Valientes (The Valiant Atis)
FOUNDED: 1957 (whole foundation), 1962 (tapity team)

HEAD COACH: *Carlos Katayama (JP name: Kentarō Katayama, 53)
ASSISTANT COACH: Fermín Claudio Nagales (35)

The Aklan Warriors were founded in 1957, a year after the Royal Chamber of Deputies voted for a new province proposed by Godofredo Ramos. The Warriors name was coined after an Ati native José Calleja wanted to have the name of "Warriors" because the Aklanon Atis are one of the indigenous tribes to fight for the loyalty to the Spanish crown. Nowadays, the Aklanon tapity team has been a force to reckon with alongside the rivals Federal Canton and Iloílo Province. Even though they're the youngest team in the competition. The golden age of Aklanon tapity happened in 1996 where Óscar Manuel Heredia and a Korean named Oh Sehoon led the team to 7 championships after the first title in their first year in 1963, 1968-69, and 1975. But the Aklanons still looking for an another win since 2011.

NICKNAME(S): Los Diablos Rojos (The Red Devils), Los Rojiblancos (The Red and Whites), Los Diablos del Monte Madja-as (The Mt. ASSISTANT COACH: Humberto Co (CN name: Guo Xie, 42)

Antique didn't have a tapity team until 1942 when the tapity sections of Deportivo Antiqueño and Real Club del Sur requesting a merger between two tapity teams into a provincial team that could play in the first post-war season of the National Tapity Championships in 1946. The club did win some championship in 1959, 1973, 1986, 1992 until 1994, where they would wait until 2020. Antique is not your average provincial tapity team in the Islands, even though they have ups and down but they're currently a competitive team after a spectacular run where unfortunately Capiz won over them in the Grand Finals. Will they bring back their glory years this new year after a heartbreaking defeat in the finals?

The Federal Canton provincial team is one of the oldest tapity teams in the world and is also the first tapity team in both Southeast Asia and in the Islands two years before the introduction of tapity in Mandurriao, home of Panayense tapity. One of the strongest tapity teams alongside the Iloílo Province and Aklan, the Cantoners were the first team to win the national title until the lightning from the Iloílo Province stole their spotlight. They have 14 titles and even got a dynasty thanks to their tradition of bringing Japanese players, foreign or ethnic, with names like José Furukawa, Rolando Yoshida, Yū Hashimoto, and many more.

ASSISTANT COACH: *Wilfredo Bermejo (49)

In a school in Guimaras, there is a group of students, who got introduced to tapity by Joe Swanson, trying to form a tapity team to represent Guimaras at the national an international level. So in 1926, Club Gimnasia Guimaraseña was formed. In its early days as a club, Guimaras has shown its potential to be Guimaras' representative in the international stage, so just like Antique, they applied to be the provincial tapity team, and so it happened in 1931, where the first national championship was formed. They were called the "laughing stock" of the tournament. But there are some times that the Guimaraseños wasn't playing around when they won 3 championships first in 1949, second in 1990, and in 2003 when they defeated the most powerful Aklan team. Will they turn back their years of glory again?
