When one thinks of Nightralia, one thinks of sentient Shadowphoenixes, bioluminiscent beaches, superfast Skyrail trains, and of course the awe-inspiring tapestry of the Night Sky.
War and Nightralia had never met each other. Not since the Pact of Celestria had cleared the shadows of ash and birthed the Nation. But no peace can last forever, and a thunderstorm can always take you by surprise. Especially if you ignore the clouds on the horizon....

Silent As the Night: The Frozen Revolution

Image
The wonderland we unwisely gave up shall be ours again...

We, the proud inhabitants of the original Nightralia, those who are now derided as irrelevant reindeer herders, shamans and country bumpkins have spoken, and we will not be silenced! Today, we unite with each other, and against our oppressors! Yesterday, the Lapland Thing finally voted to secede from the so-called federation that has continually neglected our needs. The Midnight Kingdom, under King Surya Parantaka, has proven itself an oppressive regime, prioritizing the sun-kissed southern territories over our frozen landscapes. The Nightwalkers have abandoned us as soon as the saw an opportunity, rushing to cozy up to the so called "Astro-Shaktist" freaks in Celestria.

Seara Duvre, our fearless Sami leader of Parliament, issued a brave proclamation in the wee hours of Monday. Her words echo in the hearts of every Northern citizen as we rally for autonomy from the high and mighty folks in Capitol Hill, ruling from their comfy Svetahansapuram skyscrapers.

“We are no longer willing to accept the scraps from a table that does not acknowledge our worth. This is our land, our culture, and we will fight for our rightful place!”

"For too long, we have watched as funds are squandered on the prosperous southern coast, as their sacred bulls till the sun-kissed coastal soil, while our communities crumble under the weight of isolation and neglect, while our reindeer flounder and suffer for want of moss in this dark wasteland. We demanded investment in our frozen permafrost regions, where rich traditions and resilient spirits flourish, so that they do not fade into obscurity! But no, the bureaucrats prioritise the bustling cities and skyscrapers of Ardhratra!"

The time has come for us to forge our own destiny. Lapland, nay Sapmi, stands united in our resolve: we shall reclaim our identity and autonomy! Let the Midnight Kingdom know that the north will no longer remain a mere afterthought in their grand designs. We rise for our future!

Long Live Sapmi! Long Live Máttaráhkká! Down With Ratrika!

The Lapland Thing declares...
The Majestic Confederation of Skáidirolf.

A Chill Wind from the North

And so, the people of Sapmi have spoken. They’ve risen, at least for now, in a so-called declaration of self-determination. The Midnight Kingdom, vigilant and tempered by centuries of unity, will watch and wait.
High King, Surya Parantaka

Indeed, the Majestic Confederation of Skáidirolf—or “The Shadow-Frost Confederation,” as they grandly name it—has proclaimed independence. Their declaration brims with indignation, tales of oppression, and cries of neglect, painting themselves as victims of a Nightralia that has supposedly turned its back on them. They denounce the "sun-kissed south," accusing it of hoarding wealth and power while disregarding the resilience and traditions of the Sami of the north.

Seara Duvre, an impassioned and combative voice in their fledgling Parliament, the Lapland Thing, declares, “We are no longer willing to accept the scraps from a table that does not acknowledge our worth.” Her rhetoric stirs her people, yet it skews the truth. Are we truly the oppressors they claim? Have they forgotten that Nightralia, too, endures the weight of its shared burdens?

Let us be clear: we, too, are people of shadow, bound together by the Nightforce and the watchful eyes of the Nightwalkers. Yet the north speaks as though they alone know hardship, as though the shared legacy of the Midnight Kingdom—the very fabric of our nation—can be unraveled at their whim.

It is true that much of Nightralia’s recent focus has been on strengthening urban infrastructure, public transport and upgrading our capital in Svetahansapuram. This was not an abandonment of the north but a necessity, a cornerstone for a stronger federation that uplifts every province.
Ardhratra and Celestria’s prosperity was meant to be a beacon for all. Yet, the north has chosen defiance, opting for isolation over unity, believing Máttaráhkká and ancestral shadows will suffice to forge a stable country in the frozen wilds.

They cry, “This is our land, our culture,” as if such declarations can erase centuries of shared history. They see themselves as neglected, yet forget the bridges built, the roads carved into permafrost, and the trade routes established—all of which bind Suovajiekŋa to the rest of Nightralia. These are not scraps; they are lifelines, shared by all who call this Midnight Kingdom home.

And while they claim autonomy, one wonders: do they understand the hardships this path will bring? Self-sufficiency is a virtue for the entire Midnight Kingdom, not Sapmi alone. In their fervor, they risk undermining the unity that has shielded us from the harshest nights.

So we, the heartland of Nightralia, bid the “Shadow-Frost Confederation of Skáidirolf” well, though not without sorrow. May their path bring them stability and peace, and perhaps, one day, a realization that we are stronger together. Until then, Nightralia shall watch, as we always do, silent as the night.

As the sun sets on the skyline of Svetahansapuram, it sets too on the dream of a unified Nightralia, stretching from polar Kiruna to balmy Srivijaya. The Midnight Kingdom's been ripped in half.
