Good morning NSers, and well met! I am Moorehaven, and it is my ambition to start a world-building fantasy medieval roleplaying region inspired by the Game of Thrones series! Truth be told, I am sort of surprised there isn’t something like it yet. But we’re going to change that, and hopefully with your help!
I’ve already created a region called Heroes and Foes. It is a work in progress, as we’ve yet to build the world out. In order to be a part of this endeavor, you will need to create your fantasy House/kingdom/civilization here on Nationstates and then promptly move them to the region.
There is a world map already; I’ve taken the liberty of creating one on Azgaar’s Fantasy Map generator…which is an incredible map generator that allows you to edit biomes, create heights, cities with your house’s sigils, mountains, forests, rivers, etc. etc. The map is totally customizable, and in fact, EVERYBODY will have access to it. Changes must be approved of course, but I want to build this community TOGETHER. That means if you create a house, you can add their lordly holdings to the map and build out some of the geography around it! That means small townships, woodlands, mills, towers…the possibilities are endless!
There are two main continents. For now, we will only have ONE continent open for sign up (hint: the one on the left in the above picture). It will be fashioned in the likeness of Westeros…that means western European inspired lordships and holdfasts preferably, though if you have a fantasy concept that doesn’t align with that vision, run it by me and maybe we can figure something out.
This roleplaying community will be HUMAN ONLY, though it will be a low-magic setting with SOME fantastical beasts. We’ll touch more on those themes as we develop.
Getting enough players to flesh out a map, roleplay, and stay active will be a tall task in itself, which is why I’d prefer to start off small. I have carved out a section of the map already with some basic kingdoms/holdfasts/houses.
My suggestion would be to stick within those perimeters for now, until we have jointly fleshed out more civilizations and cultures. My initial plan is for the continent to have three primary kingdoms currently at peace; the kingdom of Engleshire will be one of them.
Engleshire will be styled after medieval England in the early 1300s. Ideally the other two kingdoms would take after medieval France and/or Spain/Italy, with the French-inspired kingdom being the main continental power, but truth be told, I have no set expectations for this region and I am open to suggestions.
A suggestion of my own would be to create a castle/holdfast/lordship under the rule of Engleshire first, to sort of ease yourself into this world. The monarchs I have planned for Engleshire will not be permanent; they can be removed, usurped, and replaced by your own lords and houses, if that’s what provides the best story.
I have a beginning story in mind for roleplaying, a sort of default adventure to help hook players into this. The king of Engleshire has been mounting a campaign against the independent northernmost lordships in the Galelands in an effort to expand the kingdom of Engleshire. Not only has he failed to bring the Northern rebels under Engleshire’s rule, but he has caught fever and died, putting a pause on the campaign as his heir apparent, King Fraser Arden II, is officially coronated.
Players could be one of the northern rebel lordships…they could be a lordship currently under the rule of the new king who either supports him or is secretly against him…they could take on the role of the King’s Queen, or the King's mother, automatically granting their house a great deal of political power in this world. The opportunities are endless. I implore you not to get hung up on the details and to just jump in with your own ideas and imagination!
