Survey - New Sinkers | Last Call!

I'm pleased to welcome players to take this short 2-3 min survey on the new sinkers, Plains of Perdition and the Outback.

On November 26 2024, two new sinker regions, The Plains of Perdition and The Outback, were introduced to NationStates. This short 'addition' to the 2024 State of NS Gameplay survey hopes to capture player's views on these regions and their creation.

Once data collection is closed on this survey, responses will be combined with the results from the previous installment last month as a single report on current topics and perceptions of NS as they stand today.

Good morning, NationStates —

With some big events developing, I have made a few decisions on how to approach this in regard to their year’s State of NS Gameplay census:

- Data collection for this survey will end on Saturday, Nov 30.

- A shorter addendum to this series will launch in December to gauge the reaction to the creation of the latest sinkers — this poll will be short with no subsamples, to reduce the length of the survey itself.

- The final report will be released by the holidays containing both insight into the mindset of NS Gameplay headed into the new year and its reaction to recent developments.

I doubt this is the most pressing thing on the minds of NSGP regulars at the moment. But I wanted to give you all an update on the plan for the survey.

Regarding data collection

Please note that the survey is anonymous, the log-in requirement is only to prevent multis. Once the survey is closed, I will also once again release the *full* raw, data set of the results here so players can play around and manipulate the results as they choose with the subsamples and analyze.

About the NS Gameplay survey

Three years ago, NS Gameplayers graciously took part in the first survey and another one after that... and today seemed like the right moment for another update. The survey covers a range of topics concerning NS Gameplay at the present moment, and offers a snapshot of the current landscape.

It cut me off at the fourth question? What?

Like with past editions, this question ("I’m primarily a Roleplayer, Generalite," etc.) is a comprehension question intended to filter out respondents who do not have sufficient knowledge or familiarity with NS Gameplay to be able to answer the rest of the survey. If you feel you can finish the survey, you're welcome to edit your response to that question and continue on with the rest of the survey.

Not looking forward to the results. I will not be responding and encourage everyone else not to as well. As an active member of the Outback community, I will not be interacting and I encourage my fellow sinkerites to do the same. If even a significant minority of the sinker population refuses to participate, the findings will be therefore insignificant and irrelevant and everyone can forget this thread was ever made. We should not endorse polling from a nation who would not be allowed presence in any of our discords. This will also be my only post in the thread and I will severely judge anyone who chooses to interact with this thread further.

So yeah, don’t do these please. You don’t want to do anything the individual hosting this tells you, their no saint. Although I’m not complaining if we have some sillies who can perhaps give us some… fun little skewing of results to make the results more useless than a second liberation to Empire’s United Forever.

Thank you, the results have been surprising so far (at least for me), but I’ve learned to wait for the later responses from more casual players because the trends can change direction as collection drags on.

As per usual, I’ve launched a dispatch that can be used to pin the survey publicly.

Really appreciate all of the thoughtful responses so far — I’m thinking I’ll likely compile the exit comments into their own section for the results because a lot of respondents took their time to flesh out their perspective on the new sinkers and what they mean for NSGP.

A reminder too, as I’ve received a few inquiries about it: the survey is open to all, you don’t need to be a resident of either new sinker to submit a response.

Pleased to announce that the cutoff for this survey is Monday, December 23. I’ve made a decision to extend the collection period because we’re approaching the holidays, it’s a busy time for folks, and also because since this survey is billed as focusing on the new Sinkers specifically, it could be at a greater risk of participation bias.
