The County's Mysteries [ IC ]

Postby United Mafias » Sat Dec 07, 2024 9:04 am

Crime scene: Fields near Marlette, 6.21pm

it was a cloudy day, as if it were going to rain, besides, it was getting dark, and Sheriff Baker hated darkness, especially being in the countryside during darkness: it reminded him of the areas near Baton Rouge after Katrina, which reminded him of bad things .

The sheriff had recently arrived on the scene: The 911 call had come to the switchboard about half an hour ago, and where the first to arrive were Johnston and Bouron, who, seeing the situation, decided to call for backup and the Coroner.

Stopping near the scene, he got out of the car and headed towards the scene, where he found a more than macabre sight: The body of a poor massacred woman abandoned here. Immediately, the sheriff asked the person who answered the call: "Johnston, Bouron, what did you find?"

"We got a call from a hiker, saying he found a body in the woods. We came here and found the woman in this state. The hiker is currently sitting in the police car. He was a bit freaked out, when we arrived, but has since calmed down. Bouron checked if anything was nearby, but he found nothing out of place. The woman isn´t from malette. I´ve never seen her before in my life, neither has Bouron. We are still wating for Dr. Lock to arrive." Johnston responded

Deputy Myers, who arrived on the scene after the backup call of deputies Johston and Bouron, stood apart from the others, near his patrol car, observing the scene that seemed surreal to him: a murder in the middle of the Marlette countryside, in a rural area of Louisiana, Wes thought that a crime like that could happen in big cities, like his native Talhassee, not in such a place. While these thoughts were going through his mind, Wes looked at the body of the victim, who still had no name, and said to the others:

" Shuouldn't we check her for any identificative sign, even documents ? " he said

" Aight, I'll talk to the hiker, in the meanwhile wait for the Coroner " Said Baker

Opening the door of the police car, he tried to appear as calm, calm and friendly as possible towards the hiker, it was an essential part if they wanted him to give them some information whatsoever.

" Hey pal, Sheriff Baker, De Mayne County Sheriff Department, I know you are still in shock, afterall finding a dead body isn't not something that happens all days, but I need you to tell us what you know, alright ? " Said Baker

Still shaking, the hiker, with a trembling, shaky voice, began to talk to Joel

20 Minutes Later...

In the meanwhile, Doctor David Lock, the Coroner for De Mayne County, arrived on the scene, and, after talking to the deputies present on the scene, began to work on the body. From the hiker's answers, Joel couldn't find anything useful, except that the body was found by chance during the excursion and he hadn't seen anyone around, it would have been very difficult to find a solution to the case. Once finished, he took Johnston and Myers aside: "The guy couldn't provide us with anything useful, unfortunately, check the gas station, or the diners near the highway, maybe they saw her there."

"On it" Katherine said. "I'll go get Hart and we'll check the Diners." With that she went back over to her police car, in which the hiker no longer was, as he had got out of it to smoke a cigarette. "Are you OK, Sir?" Katherine asked him. "Yes, yes, I'm fine." the hiker responded, but he didn't sound very well. "Are you sure sir? You don't sound very well." "Well I just saw a corpse for the first time in my life. I'm just a bit shaken up." "OK, Sir. If you need help the others are there." Katheri6said before getting in her Car and starting the engine. As she was driving off, she spoke into her radio: "Hart where are you? I need you here."

Killian had been having one hell of a first day back at the station. It had started out pretty normally, just kind of going over the very basics and getting the layout of the station. He wasn't all that prone to being nervous about...much of anything, but this was something he wanted to do well at, and was quite a lot different of an environment than what he was used to choosing to exist within. So when the station became aware of a body being found, he didn't necessarily receive this information, but he did notice everyone seemed kind of...unsettled, or just otherwise reacting as if whatever had happened was unusual. And then his training officer had gone off as backup for whatever situation was going on, and he wasn't really sure what to do with that.

Until he got a radio call from her. He quickly pulled his radio off his belt, "Ma'am, I'm still at the station. Nobody really informed the rookie what's going on," He said with a light, slightly nervous chuckle, "I can get in my car and meet you somewhere, just tell me where."

"Alright. We'll meet at the Blue Road Diner. I'll tell you everything then. Over" with that she put down the radio and drove towards the previously mentioned Diner. It was the closest Diner to the location of the body. Katherine pulled into the parking lot, got out of her car and started waiting for Kilian. While waiting, her mind started thinking about the body. This was the first time a body had been found here that she can remember. And she has been working here for almost 25 years. What if this was just the start? What if they would be more and more bodies? No, stop. Nothing will happen. We will solve this case and everything will return to normal.

"Roger that....Over," Killian replied, before sliding the radio back on to his belt and standing there for a moment, wondering if maybe he should tell someone where he was going. After a second, he darted to grab his keys, not yet having open access to any sort of police car, and decided that telling the nearest cop that he wasn't just ditching on his first day, he'd been called away to meet his training officer, was probably a good idea, and so he did.

Once that was done, he darted out to where his old black mustang was parked and climbed in. His dad had given it to him when he was old enough to drive, and it had served him well thus far. It had some...quirks, but he knew how to deal with them, and honestly wouldn't trade the car for anything. Backing out of the parking spot, he zipped out of the parking lot faster than he probably should have at a police station, and made his way to the Blue Road Diner.

Arriving shortly later, he zagged into the parking lot at a speed that was not necessarily illegal, but probably frowned upon, and then whipped into a parking spot beside where Katherine had parked. Hopping out, he gave her a playful little salute, and all but bounced over to her, barely contained energy practically radiating from him. He did, however, see that she seemed...bothered, so he attempted to curb his urge to make light of any and all situations, figuring this was probably pretty serious. "Sorry I took so long, Ma'am, didn't have the advantage of the whole lights and sirens situation. What's up?"

Myers had arrived in the area of the Blue Road Diner, together with Johston and Hart: the latter was the new one who had recently arrived, and Wes had not had the opportunity to get to know him in depth, but there would have been a way in the future after the interrogations After parking his patrol car nearby, he caught up with Hart and Johnston, and said, "Come on guys, the sooner we finish asking around here at the Diner, the sooner we can solve this case" in a confident manner.

Trying to hide his uneasiness about the case, he entered the Diner shortly after, and headed towards the owner, Joe Watson, a loving owner in his sixties, gray-white hair grizzled with a mustache and wrinkles. Wes showed him his badge "Police, we wanted to ask you some questions Joe, maybe you could help us"

"O-oh," Killian huffed. He wasn't really sure what he'd expected, but it certainly wasn't that. He'd lived here his entire life, and never once had he heard about a murder. People got hurt, sure, as they did in every town, but never murder. But did they know it was murder? She'd just said they'd found a body. But they had to at least suspect murder was a possibility, right?

After a moment of quiet contemplation and acceptance of the information, he spoke again, his voice a little more subdued now, "That does explain why everyone in the station seemed...frenzied?" He wasn't sure that was the right term, but it was all that came to mind. He took a deep breath, and nodded his head, "I'm good to go. I'd rather not...see the body on my first day, if that can be avoided. But...I'm good to help, if I can. I want to help."

As he said this, another cop car pulled in. He wasn't sure he knew the officer's name yet, but now might not be the time to ask, and he was already headed into the diner after a very brief greeting, anyway. He seemed confident. That was probably good.

The camera spotted someone running along the street, followed by another person a bit later. But it was blurry and the camera is in bakxj and white." " Can you give us the footage? " Katherine asked. That event sounded like it could help them." Yes, sure. I'll get it for you quickly." Joe said and walked away. Katherine turned to Myers. "That could have been our victim. And it seems like she was being chased."

Deputy Sheriff Aarya Shoshant sat in his office chair swiveling around while taking in the grandiose nature of his office. It was well decorated with posters of his time at Louisiana Lafayette and a bunch of ravens and orioles posters covering the granite marble like walls. On Shoshants desk sat a bunch of files organized into multiple labeled bins. As he completed his spinning journey around his office his eyes lay on a picture of him and Anya in Marlette the day he got his job. He took a look at her big beautiful brown eyes and her silky thick dark brown hair and the Infectious joyous smile that had captured his heart. He took a stop and pulled out a Silk embroidered small box out of his desk. As he opened it a golden glowing ring with a shiny red ruby encompassing the center point shined seemingly heavenly. Red Her favorite color. A ruby her favorite piece of jewelry. As he pondered over the ring he caught Senior Officer Schwartz out of the corner of his eye. He closed the box and shoved it back into his drawer.

Schwartz appeared out of breath and his face red with determined and fiery eyes. Those eyes. The same eyes he gave him when he told him about the Rodman Blackmail case.

"Sir- a moment sir, please sir"
He only ever said sir that much when there was something seriously wrong. Cause for Concern
"What is it Schwartz? Something happen in the civies"
The civies was the political center of Marlette the county seat where he caught that blackmail case about Councilman Rodman

"No Sir Something much worse..."

"Well then? Spit it out Schwartz!"

He took a deep breath in as if his words were going to be life changing.

"Sir there- there has been a murder. A hike rin the woods. Baker,Johnston,Myers are on the scene"

Aarya practically jumped out of his chair. A murder? In Marlette? impossible.

"Holy fuck. I'm gone for a couple fucking hours and somebodies dead." Dispelled Aarya

He paced around the room sweat forming around his brow as he looked straight at the Senior

"Have we identified the hiker? I need information FAST!!!" Burst out Aarya

"It's a woman sir. A hiker found her in the woods brutally massacred sir. The guys can barely identify there screening the gas stations and diners for any useful information"

Aarya slammed his hands on his desk in frustration. "How come I was not informed!?!

"Sir you were on break for a few hours"

He took a deep breath "What about the rook Hart? Johnston is his damn training officer and I didn't see him at the station"

Schwartz looked away

"You don't mean to tell me that a rookie, on his first day knows less about being a cop then a baby is out there investigating a murder?"

Aarya almost slammed the table a second time but caught himself and attempted to clam himself down. He looked up at Schwartz

"Get me the master radio and get the officers investigating on the channel. By the end of the day I want them all at the station in front of me. Now."

Joe returned with an USB Stick which he gave to Katherine. "Here is the night in which it happened. "Thanks Joe." Katherine said before turning to Myers. "I'll go back to the station with Hart to analyze the footage. Can you check the other diners?" We probably won't find anything there, but it's worth a shot." She then turned back to Hart and said:" Come with me." with that she walked back to her car and started driving back to the station

Killian just sort of gave a nod, and followed along after Katherine, figuring he should probably just observe for now, and the people who knew what they were doing could lead the way. At least for the time being. He fidgeted with nervous energy while she spoke to the owner of the diner, who seemed to possibly have useful information. Hopefully this would get figured out quickly, and hopefully it was just some dumb, one-off thing. Not that any murder was good. Or maybe it was an accident? That would probably be the best case, since they seemed pretty convinced it was murder. He was trying his best not to even think of the idea of a serial killer. Why would he? There was only one death, so there was no reason to think that was even a possibility.

"Thanks for helping," He said to Joe when he returned with the USB stick, and he gave a tiny little smile, before following Katherine back outside. Not wanting to leave his car behind, he chose to drive behind her back to the station. "Do we have any information on...identity?" He asked her through the radio, really hoping it wasn't someone he might know.

Deputy Sheriff Aarya Shoshant paced back and forth in his office sweat forming on his brow. When he first got to Marlette, hell he was pretty sure in the history of Marlette and all of De Mayne there had never been a murder. He was waiting and waiting and waiting for the officers to report back to the station, where they would come directly to him. His biggest concern was the Rook. Killian hadn't even completed a full day of training and he was being dispatched to investigate a murder. It was a disorganized Disaster, this start to the investigation.

When he had first got in touch with Myers,Baker and Johnston he had yelled for pretty much 5 minutes straight. He had yelled at them for not bringing the hiker in yelled at Johnston for bringing her rookie and neglecting training duty and yelled at Baker for letting all of this happen when he was the senior officer on duty. When he finally calmed down he asked them if they could identify anything about the person or if they had any witnesses other then the hiker. Johnston told him about the strange late night camera appearance that a witness at the Blue Road diner mentioned that could be the victim being chased. Myers and Johnston had collected the camera footage on a USB stick. Aarya had ordered them to return to the station. Now here he was waiting pacing and getting ready for the end of the first of a long chain of nights dedicate to solving this murder

Bouron was troubled. It was the first time anybody here had seen a murder in Marlette. The closest he’d ever been to a murder before was actually before he’d joined the police. This was when he was around 13 and his family was shopping in New Orleans when a shooter was found in the same building.

Johnston went off, said he was meeting with the rookie at the blue road diner. Hold on why did they send someone on their first day? Anyway he needed to get a move on. He thought of nearby buildings where the killer might be. He wasn’t sure how long ago the murder was but he decided to search the woods for any clues.

(ooc:I wouldn't yell at baker since he is the sheriff and your boss)
Katherine waited for Aarya to stop shouting before saying: "I didn't take Hart to investigate a murder sir" she said, making the sir sound condescending. "I took him to investigate a dead body. While still quite serious, it's nowhere near a murder. There were no indications of a murder until the mentioned security footage. And based on the description we have its also not very indicative of a murder." she continued. "We were also already on our way back. We will be there in a few minutes." she then switched the radio to a different channel to answer Killian's question. "I don't have anything on identity. She definitely isn't from here, I would know that. Maybe Dr. Lock will be able to tell us more."

Killian pondered Katherine's answer to his question, thinking that searching the body for an ID or something like that might be one of the first things they would do, unless they had done that, and there was simply no ID on the body, which would be pretty strange if it was an accident. But ultimately he decided he knew nothing, and it was best to leave the theorizing to the more experienced. He had done all the training to become an officer, of course, but there was a big difference between training in a controlled situation, or simply studying, than doing it in real life.

All that being said, he was glad that she was confident the victim wasn't from around here. He knew a lot of people in this town, and he wasn't sure what he'd do if it turned out to be one of them. Of course, he also knew a lot of people from nearby towns, as well, so it not being a stranger was not an impossibility, just unlikely.

Lost in thought, he pulled his car back into it's parking spot outside the station, then jogged to meet Katherine once she got out of her vehicle as well. "Has this station ever dealt with something like this before?"

"A murder Victim was found here in 1998, but that was linked to a serial killer and the FBI took it over. And there was a hiking accident in 2002, but that was resolved relatively quickly. There was nothing were we´ve had to investigate." she then started walking towards the entrance of the station, considering if they should first Aarya or if they should try and analyze the Security footage. After a brief consideration, she decided that keeping Aarya waiting would just get him more mad and so she steered towards his office, already preparing for a heated discussion

"1998....Explains why I wouldn't've heard about it," Killian murmured. He was, in fact, not born back when that had been a thing, and that wasn't really the kind of news that stuck around for enough years for him to have heard about it when he was old enough to comprehend what that would even mean. And the hiking incident was probably even less noteworthy through the years. Sometimes things just happened when hiking, especially if people were reckless. He thought briefly about asking 'does the department even know how to investigate', and even opened his mouth to start talking, before realizing that could come off kinda rude and he should probably not insult the station on his first day, so he just closed his mouth and followed along. "Just...lemmie know what I can do to help, I guess."
