Sakha in January: https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/imag ... jDcav0fQ&s
The image above was of Yakutsk, Russia, a city of around 340,000 people depending on the census used. The city gets around 20 hours of sunlight per month (less than a single hour per day ), and average temperatures of -34* Fahrenheit (-36.9* Celsius)
Antarctica: https://www.jtbullitt.com/earthsound/pa ... w-pier.jpg
The image above was of Palmer Station, Antarctica overlooking a mountain vista. The research base has a population of less than 100 people. McMurdo, the largest base, has a summer population of around 1,000 people. This station has average temperatures of 36* Fahrenheit (2.7* Celsius); cold, but not any colder than what most of us have experienced before, and also 70* warmer than Yakutsk
If you would take Siberia (civilization) in January over Antarctica, I would love to know your reason why. My opinion is not set in stone
