Draft #1:
The Security Council,

Awestruck by Vylixan, commonly known as Sitethief or Site, a nation whose contributions to the world are solely matched by their exemplar character, unwavering generosity, collaborative spirit, and dedication to not only their region, the Pacific, international artwork collection, but also aiding all nations they’ve interacted with;

Celebrating Site’s efforts in painstakingly curating and expanding artwork collections, exhibited on said satellite states, of all types, a testament to their passion for history, general culture, the arts, and many themes tied to the Pacific, evidenced by, but not limited to:
  • A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history” by Vylixan Athena, a conservation of over 500 pieces of art picturing notable figures from history.
  • We are what we eat, and we become what we drink” by Vylixan Demeter, a mouth-watering collection which sheds a culinary light on the many forms food can take;
  • Animals” by Vylixan Artemis, an impressive display of nearly 4’500 pictures, paintings, and flags involving all kinds of animals and creatures;

  • Hosting the historic pull event of one of the world’s most prized works of fine art depicting Aleisyr, presently valued around 350.00 bank;
  • Fostering regional activity through generous art giveaways, evidenced by Site’s gift baskets on both Vylixan Polyteli Theia Dora and Vylixan Theika Dora, the contents of which endeavouring to improve art museums of the world;
  • Undertaking the gargantuan task of collecting all pieces of artwork related to the Pacific, ultimately possessing 988 of 992 artworks from the first edition, all 6847 artworks from the second edition, and all 9633 artworks from the third edition;
  • Paying homage to the most influential and historical figures of the Pacific with “I am the senate!”, which contains all present and former members of the regional Senate;

Lauding Site’s devotion to thorough analysis of every discovered artwork ensuring they are either added to a Vylixanian collection or offered for sale to other collectors—a level of dedication rarely seen among the numerous high-level artwork collectors;

Highlighting Site's exceptional contributions to the creation and free distribution of advanced tools designed to streamline the exploration and management of artwork, such as:
  • Sitethief’s Card Utility Manager Script” A tool enabling collectors to categorise artwork by highlighting, hiding, or preventing their accidental discarding based on criteria like edition, rarity, and originating region;
  • Sitethief’s Targeted Issues Helper” A utility that simplifies local legislative processes and policy-making;
  • Container Switcher Quick Menu” An essential device for efficiently managing the artworks and collections across multiple satellite states;
  • Contributions to the “Card Management Queue” project, the creation of “Region Highlighter”, “NSFocusGiftNationInput”, and “ShowPackCardOwners”, a utility that aids in the coordination of art-related transactions by displaying interested collectors;
Celebrating Site’s innovation and generosity, which not only are worth their renown, but also inspire countless nations to follow their footsteps, a true example in both regional initiative and artwork collection;

Hereby commends Vylixan.

Full support on principle. Site is definitely worthy of it.

However, in regards to the draft of the resolution on hand, this is a bit listy and I would encourage the author to get to grips with how to delete at least one of the lists. It does detract from what is a fine nominee.

Suggestion on that front: break out the first three subclauses of the Recognising clause as their own thing in a non-list subclause and add the two collection-based subclauses to the larger clause that focuses on that.

I also think, if you do the former, you'd find ways to break out the subclauses in the Highlighting clause, particularly the "Contributions" subclause and the "Sitethief's Card Utility Manager Script" subclause, allowing you to make the Highlighting clause all about the promotion and management of puppet management tools within cards.

I'd like to begin this response by thanking you profusely for your support. It means a lot.

Your feedback is noted; you're totally right and I see your vision with regards to possible improvements to this proposal. Hyperwolf and myself will correct our mistakes accordingly and will likely submit our second draft here once the time is right, that is, soon.

Rhaza wrote:I thought this happened before? Or Gio had a draft he didn't finish, maybe?

Indeed Rhaza, good memory. It can be found here.

Said draft was abandoned unofficially; this new and improved draft counts with the approval and full (but yet to be declared publicly) support of Gio. Any feedback on this is very much appreciated as Hyperwolf and myself, alongside a great multitude of players, believe that Site is more than worthy of recognition for his hard work.

Cheers,

Nice to read a well researched draft.

Just a couple of quibbles at the moment - standard practice is to write a number like 2,000 with a comma separator, not an apostrophe. So, 2,000 not 2’000. You’re also inconsistent, not using a separator at all for some numbers in the thousands.

Final quibble. You say Aleisyr’s card is valued “around 350.00 bank” Giving it to two decimal places would mean it’s exactly that, not around about.

As I said these are minor things, easily fixed. Otherwise nicely written and would have my vote at vote.

Idem for you BBD, I'd like to begin my brief response by thanking you for expressing support! It's our first SC authorship here, so it means a lot.

Your criticisms of the draft are noted, and the draft will be amended, most likely today. To be completely truthful, your response was one I almost feared, and I was expecting to be called 'sunshine' more than once :}
At any rate, thanks again,

Overall this is quite a good draft, though I do still have some comments as requested :D

Hyperwolf wrote:Awestruck by Vylixan, commonly known as Sitethief or Site, a nation whose contributions to the world are solely matched by their exemplary character, unwavering generosity, collaborative spirit, and dedication to not only their region, the Pacific, international artwork collection, but also and aiding all nations they’ve interacted with;

The construction in this last part is a bit odd; rewrites as above for clarity. "Exemplar" is a noun and should be changed to the adjective "exemplary".

Panegyrizing Site’s endeavour to found satellite states to represent over 1’800 historical figures, literary characters, and species, across more than 120 regions, thus enriching the cultural and artistic landscape of the world;

"-izing" is American English; you use British English later on and should stick with just one variant (as a Commonwealth resident I think British English is better in every possible metric and should be preferred over American ;)). I would use just "1800" instead of "1’800" -- that looks to be either a typo or a convention in some obscure form of English. If the latter, you use numbers without commas (inverted or otherwise) later on in the proposal and should stick to just one format.

Animals” by Vylixan Artemis, an impressive display of nearly 4’500 pictures, paintings, and flags involving all kinds of animals and creatures;

Weapons” by Vylixan Opla, a veritable arsenal of nearly 2’500 weapons of all sorts, put proudly on display for the whole world to admire;

The universe of Science Fiction - "Science fiction encourages us to explore... all the futures, good and bad, that the human mind can envision."” by Vylixan Epistimoniki Fantasia, which shows over 2’000 pieces of art pertaining to the domain of science fiction in all its forms;

Same as above for numbers.

Directing the regional artwork program, which continues to distribute invaluable artwork to the many member states of the region;

Here it might help to explain what they have done in directing it; did they help found it, are they the primary farmer for gathering cards to use in the program, or anything else "above and beyond" just being appointed leader? It might also help to give a timescale for how long they've been leading it; having led it consistently since founding three years ago is immediately more compelling than having been appointed to lead it yesterday :P

[DRAFT#2] Commend Vylixan

Postby Hyperwolf » Sat Nov 30, 2024 2:10 pm

The Security Council,

Awestruck by Vylixan, commonly known as Sitethief or Site, a nation whose contributions to the world are solely matched by their exemplary character, unwavering generosity, collaborative spirit, dedication to their region, the Pacific, and international artwork collection;

Panegyrising Site’s endeavour to found satellite states to represent over 1800 historical figures, literary characters, and species, across more than 120 regions, thus enriching the cultural and artistic landscape of the world;

Celebrating Site’s efforts in painstakingly curating and expanding artwork collections, exhibited on said satellite states, a testament to their passion for history, general culture, the arts, and many themes tied to the Pacific, evidenced by:
  • A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history” by Vylixan Athena, a conservation of over 500 pieces of art picturing notable figures from history.
  • We are what we eat, and we become what we drink” by Vylixan Demeter, a mouth-watering collection which sheds a culinary light on the many forms food can take;
  • Animals” by Vylixan Artemis, an impressive display of nearly 4500 pictures, paintings, and flags involving all kinds of animals and creatures;
  • Weapons” by Vylixan Opla, a veritable arsenal of nearly 2500 weapons of all sorts, put on display for the whole world to admire;
  • The universe of Science Fiction - "Science fiction encourages us to explore... all the futures, good and bad, that the human mind can envision."” by Vylixan Epistimoniki Fantasia, which shows over 2000 pieces of art relating to all science fiction;
  • The World of Fantasy - "Stories of imagination tend to upset those without one"” by Vylixan Fantasia, whose more than 2000 artworks representing famous works of literature and film, such as The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and A Song of Ice and Fire;
  • I am the senate!” - Paying homage to the most influential and historical figures of the Pacific by depicting all present and former members of the regional Senate;
  • Undertaking the gargantuan task of collecting all pieces of artwork related to the Pacific, ultimately possessing 988 of 992 artworks from the first edition, all 6847 artworks from the second edition, and all 9633 artworks from the third edition;

Recognising Site’s exceptional revival after a period of inactivity and complete management of the Pacific’s regional artwork program for almost 4 years, which continues to distribute invaluable artwork to the member states of the region;

Acknowledging their hosting of the historic pull event of one of the world’s most prized works of fine art depicting Aleisyr, presently valued at 350 bank;

Extolling their fostering of regional activity through generous art giveaways, shown by their gift baskets on Vylixan Polyteli Theia Dora, Vylixan Theika Dora, and Card Captor Pacifica, the contents of which aim to improve art museums of the world by enabling said giveaways by managing over 50 satellite states in the Pacific’s colony Card Captor Pacifica, which provide funding to these altruistic ends;

Lauding Site’s devotion to thorough analysis of every discovered artwork ensuring they are either added to a Vylixanian collection or offered for sale to other collectors—a level of dedication rarely seen among other high-level artwork collectors;

Highlighting Site's exceptional contributions to the creation and free distribution of advanced tools designed to streamline the exploration and management of artwork, such as:
  • Sitethief’s Card Utility Manager Script” A tool enabling collectors to categorise artwork by highlighting, hiding, or preventing their accidental discarding based on criteria like edition, rarity, and originating region;
  • Sitethief’s Targeted Issues Helper” A utility that simplifies local legislative processes and policy-making;
  • Container Switcher Quick Menu” An essential device for efficiently managing the artworks and collections across multiple satellite states;

Further noting vital contributions to the “Card Management Queue” project, the creation of “Region Highlighter”, “NSFocusGiftNationInput”, and “ShowPackCardOwners”, tools that aid in the coordination of art collection and organisation;

Celebrating Site’s innovation and generosity, which are not only worth their renown, but also inspire countless nations to follow their footsteps, a true example in both regional initiative and artwork collection;

Hereby commends Vylixan.

Yea, I realized that right after I made this. Apologies, I am not very familiar with the forums.

Full and utter support.

Panegyrising

This word stays or I retract my support. With that out the way,

Recognising Site’s exceptional revival after a period of inactivity and complete management of the Pacific’s regional artwork program for almost 4 years, which continues to distribute invaluable artwork to the member states of the region;

You do not give this nearly enough attention. I ran you through a character counter and you still have 400 characters, more than enough to flesh out this clause. Give us details. Did Site run a lot of giveaways? How many pull events did he organize? I want to know more about this exceptional revival!

Acknowledging their hosting of the historic pull event of one of the world’s most prized works of fine art depicting Aleisyr, presently valued at 350 bank;

Why is it historic? Now, I'm ignorant, of course, but if I don't know neither will the average voter and that's something that deserves an explanation.

I realize this is your choice but for the love of god can't we get over italicizing the first word of every clause?

Anyway yeah, full support!

Authorial note: on request of parties mentioned and involved, I will erase my name from this Commendation. The only material aim here is to ensure proper recognition of worthy members. In my stead as "co-author" will appear non-sanctioned nations which I deem to be constant sources of inspiration, both for me, and for this draft.

Ironic that Site's commendation is only deemed "important" by his allies when someone has written it all and nobody needs to worry about raising more than a finger for it. I suppose endorsement and recognition of merit only go so far sometimes.

I'm sorry, this is absurd. I dislike raiding as much as the next guy, but there is no reason a petty feud like this should stop a player from being allowed to contribute to the SC and be credited for it. Frankly, while I was originally intending to vote in favour of this proposal I no longer intend to do so in light of this. (Not that I expect one withheld vote to change much).
