History

Cyan Period 100 BCE - 100 CE
The Cyan period is the first division in Cornland and Asura's history from 100 BCE - 100 CE. This Period was officially established in 100 BCE by the First Emperor Jun Isurugi and the First Empress Hiromi Yuasa. This was the only period in Cornland and Asura's history to not use the ruling family's name as the period title. This period ended with the the murder of the 7th and final Emperor of the Cyan Period Nio Isurugi. This period was replaced by the Freya Period.

Freya Period 100 CE - c.700 CE
The Freya period is the second division in Cornland and Asura's history from 100 CE - c.700 CE. This Period was officially established in 100 CE by Emperor Freya Hamasaki after the murder of the Cyan Period's final emperor Nio Isurugi.
This period was marked with violence and incredibly high tax rates because of the oppresive government. The Emperors at the time would gather huge groups of women and children and whip them im public to remind the people of the power of the Emperor. About 45% of the population died during this time period because of hunger, disease, and oppression. This period ended with the overthrowing of the 17th Emperor Freya Shinichiro. This period was replaced by the Verena Period.

Verena Period c.700 CE - 2008 CE
The Verena Period was the third division in Cornland and Asura's history from c.700 CE - 2008 CE. This Period was officially established in c.700 CE by Empress Verena Iwasaki who led the overthrowing of Freya Shinichiro, the final Emperor of the Freya Period.
This period is the longest division of time in Cornland and Asura's history lasting more than 1308 years with the same ruling family. There have been more than 93 different Emperors and Empresses during this time period. The Verena period was very different from the previous Freya Period. People at this time were generally living well and the economy of the country grew. The population duing this time tripled and the country had not seen war for more than 1000 years. During this time, Cornland and Asura was isolated from the rest of the world developing its own culture and language. The Shinto religion during this time was very popular and influenced people and art. This period ended with the 93rd Empress Verena Kamakura died of natural causes in 2008. This period was replaced by the Kurogane Period.

The Kurogane Period is the fourth division in Cornland and Asura's history from 2008 CE - Present Day.
This Period was officially established on April 28, 2008 after the death of Verena Kamakura, the Verena Period's last Empress and was replaced by Kurogane Kamanara, the Kuroganes Period's first Empress.
The Kurogane Period or what it is now called the "Modern Republic" is the most economically succesful period in Cornland and Asura's history. Since 2008 Cornland and Asura opened its doors to the world and is now trying to build relations with the international community, trying to set up embassies in many foreign countries.

Geography

The islands of Cornland and Asura are located near the southern end of the Pacific Ocean. It has coastlines with the Sea of Subterra and Subterra Oceanus. The main island of Cornland and Asura has generally flat land perfect for farming while the smaller island of Asura contains many volcanic plateaus and coastal plains in all directions. The governmental jurisdiction also states that the small island of Subterra to the country's west be part of Asura.
Major Cities in Cornland and Asura include the capital of the nation, Walled City of Corn; Duster the main port city of Cornland and Asura and its second largest city and also Ibaraki the third largest city in the nation.

Climate
Cornland and Asura is known for its hot, humid summers and icy cold winters. The average temperature around July is about 102 degrees fahrenheit while the average temeprature in January is
-2 degrees fahrenheit depending on elevation and latitude. Unlike surrounding islands, Cornland and Asura is not affected by the rainy seasons. Cornland and Asura typically sees very little rain only isolated snowstorms that develop long lasting snowbanks.

Economy
Cornland and Asura has an economy anchored on agriculture but with substancial contributions to mining and fishing.
Corn farming has attributed to 1/4 of Cornland and Asura's income followed by light industry ( mainly beer brewing and cloth making ).
Tourism has also become a major industry in Cornland and Asura because of the mainly year round ski resorts in Northern Cornland and Asura.

Transportation
Cornland and Asura is a isolated island in the middle of the ocean so it has no landlinks with any other country. Travelers to the island arrive by air through Impending Squall International Airport ( ISQ ) in the nations capital. Impending Squall international Airport is currently the only hub of Cornland and Asura's national airline "Leviathan Air".

Due to lack of major roads and the very sparse population of Cornland and Asura there are only 3 major roads so only 45% of Cornland and Asurans own a vehicle. Most of the population ride bikes because of the close proximity to their jobs.
The government is planning a major railroad to link the many areas of the nation.

Culture and Society

Cuisine
Cornland and Asuran cuisine is mainly Japanese-Korean / Malay in origin with some French influence as well. Typically Cornland and Asurans eat 5 very small and light meals a day. Once in the early morning, once at noon, once in the late afternoon, once in the evening, once in the late evening, and a Yoshoku which is a small snack eaten right before going to bed. All meals during the night include kimchi since Cornland and Asurans believe that when eating kimchi at night, it cleanses your body and keeps away evil spirits when sleeping.
Popular foods in Cornland and Asura mainly include corn, kimchi, rice, tofu, anchovies, and various type of noodles. Many diffeent seasonings are also used in Cornland and Asuran cuisine including sesame oil, soy sauce, soybean paste, and wasabi.

Mainly during the day, there are food stands called DdukBokGi where customers may stand beside the cart and dip their foods in different sauces and eat. Many stands also sell inexpensive foods including dango, makguksu, and kimchi.
Education
Cornland and Asura is known to boast the most knowledgable corn farmers in all the world. Everything possible about corn has been learned by many citizens. Besides the knowledge of corn, Cornland and Asura is known for one of the most competitive educational systems all over the world. Being #1 in your class for many consecutive semesters allows students to participate in government and ultimately have a seat in government. In early 2009, a survey showed that Cornland and Asura was #2 in the region for problem solving, 5th at mathematics and 15th for physical science. Cornland and Asuras mainstream culture include televised dramas, films, variety shows, and CA-pop ( a variation of k-pop ).

During the early 1980's traditional Cornland and Asuran folk songs were very popular. But since then Cornland and Asuran music was never popular around the world. During the transition from the Verena to the Kurogane period, a new type of music became popular called "CA Pop" which incorporated many westernized music styles including rap, techno, and jazz themes.
