The opening gameweek of the inaugural professional season under the newly formed GEMFA sees some long awaited action with many clubs focus put heavily on attack we’re expecting to see plenty of goals over the next 44 weeks. The current format designed off the previous amateur leagues, held together with good old-fashioned handshakes and gentlemen’s agreements, provides 3 divisions of 20 teams roughly grouped into similar abilities so we should have some enthralling watching with a very quirky fixture system that will see teams play mostly at home or away for the first half of the season so keep an eye out for those who might start to struggle not having the home advantage for a few weeks.

In a tense match, Crumblemarsh initially seemed to be in control, but Tabilaer’s superior attacking play saw them edge ahead. Crumblemarsh mounted a late comeback, but Tabilaer held on for the win, cementing their place in the mid-table as they look to push higher. Blyth Rangers pulled off a shock 3-1 win over Ke'haza FC in a performance that will give them hope for the remainder of the season. Blyth were fast out of the blocks, taking an early lead, and despite Ke'haza pulling one back, the hosts never lost control of the game. Blyth's defense stood firm, and they sealed the victory with a late goal, leaving Ke'haza to reflect on a frustrating result. Thermodosa FC continued their strong form with a hard-earned 1-0 win over Blood Argyle. The match was a cagey affair, with both sides creating few clear-cut chances. It was Thermodosa who found the breakthrough, with a well-taken goal midway through the second half. Blood Argyle pushed for an equalizer but couldn’t break down the resilient Thermodosa defense.

Now that we have passed GW15 of the league we have the first round of the Abydus Cup. The Abydus cup is a chance for teams to play across the divisions and see what they are truly made of, shall we see david beating goliath or will we see the better established teams brushing past the lowly minnows, we don't know and that is what makes this competition so exciting. Due to the number of teams there are 4 teams that will have byes in the first week, this season they are Wurtbad, Gormundi, Zerynthia and Lithrelir who are all safely through to the second round.

The first round of the Abydus Cup kicked off with an electrifying series of matches that showcased the talent and determination of teams across all divisions. High flying Timbery brush past Holberming 3-0, extending their unbeaten run in all competitions. Utopian Wanderers scraped past Allspark United in a back and forth encounter that saw both teams leading at times for Utopian to win 4-3. Rienerrion the first big team to lose to a lower opposition as they are dumped out of the cup 3-1 on penalties by division 2 Falkenheim. Eksfilaz followed shortly after as they lose 4-3 on penalties against Gaessilnean following a 2-2 in regulation time. Fandel join Eksfilaz in being knocked out the competition by a division 3 team on penalties following their 2-2 tie to lose 4-2 in penalties. Lowly Dahmbach, bottom of division 3, produced the upset of the competition by beating Malakh 5-3 on penalties after a full time 2-2. Ke'haza with an impressive 3-2 victory over their division 1 opponents Elmroots continues the upsets following the conclusion of their thrilling game. Dasmahler lose 2-1 to division 2 Dragmall, maybe not Dragmalls season in the league but a big away win in the cup could galvanise that team. APC another division 1 team to lose to lower opposition as MYB advance with a solid 2-1 victory with a late goal to secure a round 2 appearance. High flying Division 3 Bood Argyle managed to hold Karak 0-0 in regulation before scoring all their penalties to win 5-4. Gyrinx Spartans lose 2-1 to division 3 Indalwe after a solid Indalwe performance. Just 9 division 1 teams remain in the competition, after 3 had byes, with some impressive wins, a couple of last minute winners and more than a few nail biting penalty shootouts this is what the competition is all about. The draw for round 2 will be held just prior to next weeks league fixtures.
