A Blank Canvas: Ancient World [IC]

Postby Lemueria » Mon Nov 11, 2024 10:50 pm

The Ancient World

“The only thing to fear is fear itself.”

Welcome to the ancient world, Phase 1, of A Blank Canvas. The year is 4000 BC and society has just been created, literally. Many cradles of civilization are waiting to rise and many else will, in the eternal game of life. New technology will be expanded, interconnection will happen; the first conflicts and the first alliances, and the first treaties and the first laws. In this time you can do anything and your doing impacts the entirety of the future of civilization as we know it, for you paint the first pixels on the canvas which inspire further pixels, and so on.

All those who have signuped in the OOC can post here. There is not really one format but a few considerations:

— Respect other civilizations and their NPCs, do not RP them.

— Keep things realistic and bound, especially for technology, many simple things have not been invented yet, such as plastic, and fabric has barely been touched yet. Of course it gets boring living in such prehistorical technology so feel free to invent new ones frequently however there should be some continuity and it should be small inventions tying into one large invention infrequently.

— You are allowed to timeskip great amounts if no one opposes, a few years to decades usually are fine. However larger, like multiple decades, should be asked for consensus, and centuries, should be considered megaskips which can only happen with OP approval.

— Things will be added here as necessary.

Now go on and post! A recommended format is this (although not required):

In night, and dancing around the rocks jutting out of the beaches, Alohi took out a small obsidian knife, looking to stab fish underwater. When "fishing," Alohi swore she heard the voice of the Mother of Mothers speaking to her. She smiled, nodding and taking in what she'd thought she was hearing. Taking in the "words" of the moon, getting back on land and trying to cobble something out of the bones from the fish that were deboned.

She looked up at the moon, holding her hand out, crying. Pleading, as she felt it wrong for her people to just leave fishbones behind. But she "heard more voices," and the moon told her they didn't leave the fishbones there. Alohi didn't have to worry; it was all for a purpose. She knew the Mother of Mothers took care of her girls - the bones were intended for a purpose. Ofcourse - everything had a purpose - but these, atleast those bones Alohi found -

they seemed special.

She could make a sword out of them, a necklace - something like that - but...

Alohi scratched her head.

That was what she didn't feel like doing. She wanted to do something new, make something amazing. Alohi felt she herself was molded from sand - and even then, a special relation with it. An ease with making sandstone and then, houses out of it. Her name, in the Darkaeiahi language, meant "to comb the sands."

It was in her to do something special. Not -

She turned around. Helon stood behind her. She grimaced. He slowly backed away. He should've been grateful the young woman didn't splinter his shoulder with one of those sticks just lying around.

Lumieran Civilization;
Somewhere along the Yellow River - East Asia. Year 0.

The first six human on the planet came from the Star and were descendant of the ancient gods. Or so did the Lumieran ancient people came to believe.

Legends has it three dragons descended from the three moons above the earth. Each carrying two golden eggs and these were laid across the Three Great Rivers.

These 'eggs' (actually, more like cyro pods but they didn't know it back then) didn't hatched for at least 100 years. Instead it waited for the atmosphere on the surface of the planet to became warmer and normalize after the Apocalypse, and became acclimatize for the new surface of the planet.

Then they all awakened at the same time. The six human on this side of the planet open their eyes to a brand new world.

And thus Year 0 began.

To freedom, to the pampas!
Civilization name: Runakuna
Region: Pampa region in South America
Step: Invention of ceramics

An endless grass plain stretched to the horizon. The sun was setting, and Ikkautli's fellow tribesmen had to manage to drive a herd of semi-wild vicunas behind a fence made of pressed earth. A similar earthen rampart separated the shepherds' shelter from the steppe. They placed the cattle in a stall, settled down nearby, got fire by friction and lit a fire. The entrances were covered with a felt canopy. The storyteller began to sing "The Song of the Sun and the Starry Veil." Ikkautli reached for his belt. There hung three woolen ropes, dyed in different colors with the juices of herbs - ropes with three, five and six knots. "Ask the Son of the Sun to send three wineskins of salt for the people and alpacas and five brides not from our clan, and prepare sixty felt mats for the chief ourselves...". All that was left was to wait for the messenger from the Son of the Sun, with his retinue, to arrive at the camp. Until that moment, we will must shear the vicuñas and make the felt. Iccautli ate some dried vicuña meat, sighed, lay down on a felt mat by the earthen wall, and fell into a sweet sleep to the drawn-out chant of the storyteller.

He woke up refreshed. All around, the noisy bustle of a new day was already beginning. Men were shearing vicuñas with scissors made of sharpened bone plates, women were preparing to make felt and spin wool, young men went out into the steppe to hunt for rhea - a group of ostriches was spotted not far from the camp. For hunting, they used a "bola" - a weapon made of three stones connected by a leather belt. The Indians threw them from a distance of a hundred paces, and so accurately that the bola entangled the victims' legs, causing them to fall. The hunting trophies were used for breakfast - ostriches and prairie partridges were roasted on bone spits.

In the afternoon, the envoy of the Son of the Sun and his retinue arrived, accompanied by loaded vicuñas. Ikkautli greeted the messenger respectfully, assigning him an honorary section, fenced off by an earthen wall and intended specifically for the chieftain's servants. The host, with cautious curiosity, asked the guest about life in the Habitat of the Sun - the main settlement from which orders, favors and punishments came. Ikkautli, the elder of the shepherds, had never been there, and greedily absorbed the news. It turned out strange: according to the messenger, in the Habitat of the Sun the inhabitants built not only fences of earth and clay, but also complex labyrinths with many sections, and covered the sections with felt on top to protect them from the rain. To dispel the darkness inside the sections, they made narrow slits in them for rays of light. Many compartments served as storage for corn brought by peasants, for salt and salted fish supplied by fishermen from the shores of the Great Ocean, for felt and dried vicuña meat, for woolen ponchos, bone tools. The Son of the Sun and his advisers carefully preserved these riches, sending to each remote community the things and products it needed - as the Sun sends rays and warmth to all those in need. And this was a complete novelty: the craftsmen learned to make portable pits there from clay! Every tribe knows how to dig pits in clay and earth - but here they made a pit in a piece of clay, baked this piece in the rays of the sun or even in a fire - and then in such a pit you can carry salt and corn grains, water and fish - as they used to carry in leather wineskins. They even came up with names for such pits - for a large one "basin", for a small one "bowl". The guest promised to send not only salt and brides, making sure that the girls were from another clan - but also to bring these clay wonders next time: bowls and basins.

Ikkautli showed the envoy of the Son of the Sun that the felt making was in full swing, and the felt bedding would be ready in three days, after which they could be sent to the chief. Then the conversation turned to the young men working in the Year of Initiation on the construction of a water channel that would bring water here from the Big River. Then the camp would have a watering place for the vicuñas, a grove of araucarias and fields of maize would appear, life would become easier and more satisfying. But this improvement, as always, would take longer than a human life - so we will not see the end of our labors, the messenger sighed.

Chur Beloborodykh
Somewhere around 4000 BC (2900 of the Age of Heroes)

The tribes of the great, called Chur Beloborodykh, were scattered from the "spires of the north of the sea serpent ridge" and ended at the "clawed shore". This tribe was led by valiant knights who hunted and fished. The tribe was then led by the voivode Gritsis Inor Slaviin (at first Chur was the name, then the family, then the name of the father). He was famous for the fact that with a stone spear thrown at thirty steps he pierced a bear through the eye. Each time he returned and did not count his child, the son of Yanori Inor Gritsis, after he gathered a team of hunters and decided to follow where his son went in the evenings ... It turned out that he went to talk to the Golovans (wild dogs), who brought him game. He was not invented in hunting and was considered a disgrace to the family, but after a while he began to bring a huge number of bird carcasses to the family. Gritsis finally understood where he was coming from, and at the council of elders he suggested that his son speak, who praised the elders of the golovans and told them how they could be tamed. This legend is still kept about the first friendship of Chur with the Golovans, who would later become a symbol of the strength of this tribe. The trained golovans stood on the plane with the hunters, were honored guests at feasts in tribute to good hunting. This decade was called "Golovanny"
he became one of the first to be revered as "godlike" during his lifetime (later a hero)

Chur Beloborodykh
Somewhere around 3990 BC (2910 of the Age of Heroes)

Decade of giants.
we were small, we stood against the giant with only an axe and a spear, but we defeated the treacherous tribe

The mammoths, whom the Chury called giants, often entered the lands of the WHITE-BEARDED CHURS. And for the first time, the Chury were forced to hunt mammoths not out of hunger, but out of a desire to avenge the destroyed settlement of the Aroon clan. However, everyone understood that even one "giant" could destroy a squad of hunters of 40 people, if the hunt was not conducted correctly, and three giants could destroy entire tribes. In the name of fighting the giants, the Churs entered into a temporary alliance with the tribe of Yorgs and Shiirs, who often raided the Churs, around the caste of hunters-Churs (Inei). However, the wise elders of the three tribes decided that a war on equal terms with the giants could lead to death, so it was necessary to take cunning. They dug a huge ditch, sticking many wooden sharpened thick logs there that could deeply enter the giant's body, and rolled boulders to the hill, covered everything with wood and grass from behind, which it was decided to set on fire so that the giants would run in panic straight into the "death ditch", where they could be crushed by a large boulder along the way. Only by 2909 were the hunters able to lie in wait for the giants and begin to torment them with prepared traps. This taught the tribes new tactics of war and wars became more dangerous and bloody for all sides, because all sides would be ready to use similar tricks as with the giants, already to their former allies. Nevertheless, the spoils were divided and the last year of the decade was the warmest and most satisfying.

lands of Karjaam
decades 1 and 2 in The Tyrubechean calendar (around 4000BC)
In a coastal Village named Hunjam, A lightning strikes The Temple of Unur(goddess of Moon and water) but it doesn't ruin the temple. The priest of this temple, a woman named Tyrubech takes it as a sign from The sky god Azimaa, and sets this event as an start for her new calendar which's usage will spread between different villages in the following decade.
Meanwhile, the usage of the new Karjaamite writing system spreads alongside with usage of bronze. Major sources of Copper and tin come from the northeastern plains( called Surmeyn) so The northern Karjaamite villages have more Access to bronze and to nomadic tribes which will serve as mercenaries in the battles between villages. In this way, northern villages raid their weaker neighbors in Central and west Karjaam. And Central villages prefer to pay tribute in wheat and jewels instead of being conquered. So Northerners grow wealthier and form five small towns: Ferub, Muijam, Sofag and
gurmant. This wealth helps Art and culture grow in this towns, but god of war can't accept his wife and opponent (god of Art) grow stronger than him.... And nomad warriors gain more political power every year....

Daytime - midday - Darkeiahi were angry; steaming mad as well, the sun was out and on this peninsula it seemed to be bright with nothing obscuring it. Alohi let out a groan, taking her bow out to shoot the primal demon in its face but a bird had flew past. Her obsidian arrow accidentally piercing the bird straight through. She knelt down, sinking herself purposely into the sand even though from a very young age she felt herself to be one with it. She was sullen, not wanting to move. Helon noticed this, but remembering lasttime - was scared to approach her. Even though she covered herself in sands, bits and pieces of her outfit were shining through like the treasure she was.

Taking a cloth and wrapping it around her eyes before she dove deeper into the sand, she was unseen - moving behind Helon in said sands, then jumping out of the sand and tackling him down onto the uneasy ground. Even in heels, she had finesse in her legs and overall movement. These men - these males, rather - were not being thoughtful; going around, disturbing the ones they were supposed to look up to. They pestered them, even silently. Just not leaving Alohi alone, and she felt the need to place fear back into -

atleast Helon. Atleast this man.

Without missing a beat, she took off one heel - delicately standing on one leg - holding it, using it as a disciplinary tool. and pressing the well-crafted stiletto into Helon's palm. He tried to just take it, to not show pain - but he let out a wail as it sunk in and aired out; winds hitting the newly-made wound. She, gracefully, put the heel back on and grabbed him by his forearm, bringing him to the dead bird.

Like a puppet, Alohi directed every move Helon had made - skinning and defeathering the bird. She wouldn't even give him a smidge of the birdmeat once cooked. Or anything made out of its feathers. She was pushing and prodding, making him nervous intentionally - digging her nails into his skin though on the uninjured arm. To take the birdbones and the rest of the fishbones and teach this idiot how to properly craft something.

She was sure he couldn't look into his minds' eye and figure things like this out. Afterall, he just was to stand alone - silently - waiting for her or any other woman to summon him to do something of use.

Massawomok
year: 1st Bright Moon (Massawomok dont keep track of years)

The small tribe started to fish and establish agriculture growing a maze and beans, the tribe would start to grow animals such as Turkey, and doe/deer, they would keep it small and sometimes hunt squirrels but never found it worth keeping them and breeding them. The tribe was rather peaceful as the elders sat by the fire and began describing what life was like some years ago. It was only 2 years ago the tribe settled down naming their location Bomok, nothing but longhouses where everyone shared. The tribe celebrated their new place and set up a calendar of lunar cycles. They then ended their day with their elders voting and heading to bed.

Bayouanne
4,000 BC

Events:

High Chief Tall Water spoke with Chief Bright Teeth to decide when to hold a festival during the second river season (summer). Chief Big Fish suggested using the remaining captives to do labor when starting a new Kin. Chief Sharp Stone started to teach how to make lighter longer stones tied to smaller pieces of wood.

In the High Chief's stilted house sat the chiefs in discussion.

High Chief Tall Water: Tell me Bright Teeth would the days of the long light be supplied with surplus of food?

Chief Bright Teeth: Of course Tall Water, however it should be held near a river or lake to avoid the hot light from spoiling the fun.

Chief Big Fish: Would the kin be a distance away? If so, I say we use the remaining captives to build another for closer shelter.

Chief Sharp Stone: Seems very efficient to me, I would support it, I also would like to teach how to make some new weapons after the festival to help out kin facing threats or wanting to subjugate rival tribes.

Hugh Chief Tall Water: Hmm, good points all around, I approve of using captives for the festival and shelter, I recommend teaching how to make these new weapons in the days of cool breezes and see how it fares as a tool for cutting food.

The chiefs would discuss more before splitting up in preparation for the festival. Many days laid ahead of them and their kin.
May we be opponents in peace and friends in arms.

Chur Beloborodykh
Somewhere around 3950 BC (2950 of the Age of Heroes)

Decade of Blood

The columns of smoke rose steadily, the hunters whispered among themselves - the god Yarva is preparing a war for us

The Decade of Giants became a real population explosion, the tribe grew to 12 thousand people in 40 years due to the fact that after this abundance gave birth to "Jinok" to be more engaged in the birth of children. This caused a huge number of problems with feeding. Houses made of mud were no longer suitable, so they began to insulate it with clay, supplement it with tents made of wood covered with furs. During this time, the Churs mastered cold forging of copper to identify the clan, copper products were of a purely declarative nature (bracelets with pictures of animals with which the tribe was associated). A layer of "dependent" children appeared who could not yet fully replenish the ranks of hunters. However, a large number of hunters and fishermen made it possible to obtain tens of times more food and furs, a new social stratum appeared, which in the Copper Age would be called "Khiils". They were engaged in cold forging of copper. However, the new voivode of Adyr Finde Salemysl gathered the chosen hunters for advice, after which the hunters advanced to the Yorgs, who were going through hard times after the death of their leader. The Churs believed that the gods had cursed them, and therefore we must become the last will of Jarve, taking all the women as concubines, leaving them a choice either to join the tribe or to become eternal exiles without a tribe or family. The attack was unexpected, first huge stones rolled onto the camp of the Yorge hunters, knocking them down and pressing them to the ground to death, then many spears rose into the air, piercing the hunters, soon the Inei ran, grabbing women and all the food from their camp on their way. Soon a full-fledged war began, where battle after battle hunters from both sides died, until one part of the Yorge recognized Adira Finde Salemysl as the leader, and the rest was lost in the pages of history, going somewhere into the distance. Thus, the Chury became the strongest tribe in their ridge with a large number of women and hunters, and its success is illuminated by the eyes of the gods from the heavenly canvas.

Afternoon, going into nighttime - As the colors up above in the sky started to dwindle into darkness, Alohi continued using Helon to her advantage. She didn't need to make him craft things for her - only she tired of some man bothering her. All the useless..

She instinctively grabbed her bow - the same bow she accidentally killed the bird with - aiming it into the distance with her keen eyesight. She could tell something was there. Some big animal threatening to break her concentration. Even though her hands were full, she reminded Helon again to stay behind her. To be unseen.

She was going to protect the both of them. She was going to continue to eat of the bothersome beast. She was going to keep moving; and Helon needed to memorize that and stay put. Behave like someone minding his "leaders" might.

She shot out quickly one stream of arrows to another, though instantly glancing at Helon and making him grab arrows out of her quiver to give to her. Someone was standing right there and if they were going to make themselves useful, then...

The creature was stung, hit. It - or "he," bore his teeth shortly before dying, unable to claw or swipe at the two Darkaeiahi infront-of it. Helon looked into Alohis' face as if both wanting her approval and waiting for her to do something. She, in her periphery, can see his eyes. They loudly-but-silently insulted her. She'd highkick his arm.

"Eyes...off...." She said under gritted teeth.

The young woman heard more noises. Her fine ears detected it wasn't an animal but another woman. She put her bow away, looking at her fingers and trying to think. She was obviously different in some way than Alohi but also very much the same; it wasn't like Alohi had another underling infront-of her just getting up to something he shouldn't.

Maybe they were around the same age?

Alohi looked up into the darkness, or what was steadily becoming said darkness. As always, if she didn't know something or wasn't sure of something - she looked to the Mother of Mothers.

"Making....something...Alohi?" The other woman shook; she'd picked up on that, every word and syllable, there was some anxiousness in it.

Alohi smacked Helon hard.

"Drink..." She rolled her eyes.

Helon moved with haste, not wanting to upset them. Giving two drinks to them - respectively Alohi got hers and this other woman would get a drink aswell though now Alohi tapped her nose, annoyed with Helon nonetheless, wanting another drink.

"Ugh..." She looked in the other womans' eyes, feeling mutual tiredness.

She understood Alohi even without her having to explain it. It was the fatigue of dealing with people who didn't know what to do or how to do it; Alohi perceived this as a sign from the Moon - even though she thought she couldn't get the true view of her. Seeing her, and she telling Alohi something - that naturally, Darkaeiahi caught on. Signs were all over the place.

"Earlier..." Alohi wiped at her painted face.

"Is nothing. Demons everywhere, in the way of Our Mother. Do not - Alohi, you do not have to explain anything to me."

"I know you, I think?"

Alohi asked. She nodded, then started to drink. She raised up a finger which caused her to nod. Ofcourse she was going to enjoy the sweet taste of the treats presented, even if they came by fools.

"Saorhe." She'd give Alohi her name.

"Saorhe," Alohi nodded.

"Saorhe, I don't see you often. It has just been..."

She scratched her head.

Saorhe giggled nervously. She knew what Alohi was trying to say but felt sad because it wasn't coming out.

She lowered Alohi's hand.

"No more... fingers..." She laughed, not being able to stop.

Accounting and control
Civilization name: Runakuna
Region: Pampa region in South America
Step: arithmetic, knot writing.

Image

A series of years passed, and everything turned out as the ancestors had wished: the former shepherd's camp became a prosperous settlement. From the earthen embankment, water ditches were visible, along them green fields of maize, and an araucaria grove towered. Unfortunately, the grove was rather frail - the seeds delivered from the hills of the tropical hot north did not take root well in the climate of the pampa. Araucarias gave little wood, it was too highly valued to be used for the construction of buildings. Wood was used only to create tools: spears with bone tips, diggers and ploughs for the fields, stretchers for carrying earth and clay. True, stretchers were used not only in construction: messengers rushed along the roads on them with orders from the Abode of the Sun, and above such stretchers a cabin made of felt with a leather canopy was fixed on a frame of branches to protect the rider. Caravans of vicuñas laden with dried fish and salt, ceramics and wool also moved along the roads. The Son of the Sun and his assistants decided which products to send to which settlement. Goods were not exchanged, but were supplied free of charge from the central storage facilities. In each city there lived a calculator and statistician - the "Eye of the Son of the Sun", and he took into account literally everything that could be counted digitally. He sent information about this to the capital, using knots on colored threads made of vicuña wool. Knot writing was difficult to master, but in the capital's schools this art was taught to those who wanted to. The best of them, having passed the exam, became statisticians.

Ikkautli looked around. This was not the bygone Ikkautli, but his great-grandson. The pattern on his poncho and the tattoo on his forehead were different, for he was born to a mother from a different clan than his great-grandfather. There were seven clans in total, each headed by a Foremother, in the event of her death her rank was inherited by the eldest sister or eldest daughter. The seven Foremothers chose the one who would be the incarnation of the Son of the Sun after the death of the previous ruler, the previous incarnation - and each new leader had to come from a different clan than the previous one. When seven rulers changed, the order of the clans was repeated. This was the cycle of succession. The associates of the previous ruler, in the event of his death, were sent into retirement, returned from the capital to their native villages, and in their place new ones were recruited through examinations. Preparation for the exams was grueling, Ikkautli did not risk participating in them, remained the elder of the local town, not claiming a career in the capital. Still, from the statistician he learned to understand knotted writing a little. This helped him calculate and remember how much wool and vicuña meat the shepherds brought to the local clay barns, what share of it had to be sent to the capital, and what share to leave for the locals. Yesterday he had long begged the calculator-statistician to order a hundred stone scrapers from the capital - stone was even more valuable than wood, and was a rarity in the pampa plains. Finally, the "Eye of the Son of the Sun" took pity and ordered scrapers, but three times fewer in number. All that was left was to wait for the caravan with tools, salt and ceramics to arrive - and prepare skins, felt, dried meat and corn cobs for shipment.

Dredea:

Around 4000 BC

It’s morning in A dredean village called Pavodia. Most of the village has woken up by now, the farmers were on the fields, the druids were doing morning prayers at the temple and the richer members were doing this new trend called “breakfast”.

A 15 year old called Udnu was setting Out of the banks of the Dradean river. He had heard rumors about mysterious activities south in the land called Sudruva (Southriver or Bulgaria). Udnu lived on the Sudruvan side of the river and went to investigate as sightings of foreign peoples were creeping closer to the village. After searching for around 40 minutes he found nothing, he thought of going back soon but then he saw a lake and something at the other side of it, and he saw figures stampeding towards him on horses, it must be them. They were carrying weapons so he began to run. One of the men shouted something and a weapon that resembles a spear pierces the boys neck.

Soon after the village was sacked. They had arrived on the Dradean river.

Lands of Karjaam
decades 5, to 8 of Tyrubechean calendar

Only one century ago, Karjaamite people had settled down. Now They already have early bread, beer, Fancy fabrics, potters, Complicated buildings, and finally markets where they trade everything.
Mundi Si Yemnur(Yemnur son of Mundi) was Working in one of these markets in his Southern Village of Jernihhaa when he accidentally found out that if he leave mixed water and flour to sit for several days, he can an make a much better , more digestible bread out of it. This discovery of Yeast made bread much more popular in following decades, as Yemnur Turned his small grocery to a shop only dedicated to bread; and his name was saved in writings and memories as the first baker of Karjaam.
***
Jernihhaa was one of the 10 Central villages which payed tribute to the town of Sofag. Once a year, chief of Sofag sent his men to the villages to take away ⅓ of the villages' wheat, sheep, goats, and other products. If they resisted, Sofag would send its barbarian mercenaries to to ruin the village. This happened to two villages of Gemnaa and Fenjaam: their houses were burnt to the ground, their wealth was pillaged and their people were enslaved.... In this way, Northern towns strengthened their hegemony over Central villages with Thanks to bronze Arms and Barbarians mercenaries. But this children of Seymin [god of war] faced Art and in the towns, they left their Arms and fell in love with Ruyin [god of Culture] and were culturally Karjaamized. Soon these Karjaamite-barbarians become commanders instead of Soldiers, hiring new mercenaries from northern barbarians and this new barbarians became Karjaamized themselves. This cycle continued as Karjaamite-barbarians slowly climbed up, until one of them - a cultured warrior named Tybyeg- became the Chief of Gurmant.

Chur Beloborodykh
Somewhere around 3800 BC (3000 of the Age of Heroes)

Decade of dampness

Both the cold and dampness left them sick and wet, and to survive they had to start hunting for warmth

In 50 years the tribe grew to 62 thousand people, which prompted them to start colonizing the southeastern Urals. Having successfully established themselves there. This gave them inexhaustible access to forests, which would still be useful. By this time the technology of war with giants had greatly advanced, in order to reach the speed of giants the Churs saddled deer, and attached sharp copper tips to their horns. They surrounded the mammoth, one on the deer pursued from behind with a torch, two on the sides struck with spears, leading them into a prepared ravine. And in order to easily skin the skin, the hunters got a malachite knife. Thus, up until the "decade of dampness" there was abundance. The war with the Yorgs also ended in success. The reindeer riders were almost invulnerable to their infantry, and as a result, the current voivode Nenen was recognized as a "hero" and joined the ranks of the WHITE-BEARDED Churs. Thus, the northern Urals began to belong to only one tribe. However, a slight cold snap in the steppe conditions became unbearable, because the moisture from the sea completely soaked all the furs, earthen houses became a damp and cold place, therefore the role of the tribe in the South-East of the Urals became almost due to the abundance of wood. Houses began to be built from logs, laying one on top of the other, and the roof was made of dried grass, and in the center they installed a hearth of stone and clay (pottery was not discovered, but the properties of clay to bind stones became known after the voivode, planning a war with the Yorgs, moved small stones on a clay plateau, and when he accidentally brought a torch to the clay, it was difficult to tear the stone off.) Thus, the dwellings were strengthened and insulated, and the fur served as an insulated floor. Thus, already in the decade of dampness, the first signs of civilization began to appear, however, so far only in an embryonic state, the catalyst was the decomposition of the community.

civilization name

Da'ar'kai'aeiah

year

4, in the count made by Alohi.

events

Alohi had kept on creating things; ever the inventor she was. In her anger with Helon - she felt it was the last time he or any other man would get in her way and so, with her bow, she killed him.

Image

(this but with way more color and ofc add high sandals to it)

Elterah, the daughter of the moon - the one who "led all Darkaeiahi" to the accordance of their religious/cultural beliefs - she had heard many a thing coming from some walkingpeoples in and around Darkaeiah; not listening to them as they went against not only her will but the will of the Great Mother. Even then, Alohi had done many a wonder for her own people and so Elterah kept everything going in the direction Alohi had brought forth.

In punishing the roaming tribes in other parts of the peninsula, Da'ar'kei'aeiah went to war on them. As usual, the females fought. Males followed, going along and helping them in their effort though unallowed to pick up sword and fight alongst them. In how Alohi taught many girls around her to use animals to fight - the Darkaeiahi did the same; any and every animal tamed - which the Great Mother supported - became another hand in their lunar punishment.

When the Darkaeiahi won, and win they did - males were ofcourse made subservient. Women, in annoyance - were killed off in great numbers. Another punishment. Females held a great place in the world - as obvious, it was the chorus of the Sacred Feminine.

The Great Mother had told Elterah that nothing of consequence had happened to Alohi, that her mind soul essence and heart were in another body. Ofcourse, another feminine vessel - which this vessel was Alys. Alys knew she had a great reputation to uphold, as it was known throughout the land Alohi brought glory to her people through Craft. It was said that Alohi was the moon given human form; not believed earlier but in the time of Elterah, it became a widespread belief she and her mother were one-in-the-same.

Alys, though instead of crafting, took to sailing and exploring the waters all in and around the peninsula. She also took to spreading Darkeaiahi beliefs, so that no other nomadic people would come and attempt to discourage Da'ar'kae'aeiah from her path.

Ga Xal

3800 BC: Ten Years After King Hor-Hetep’s Coronation

Across the cold windswept plains of Xalia, upon the southern slope of Xal, a city slept soundly, borne with sleepiness to the Land of Naya. The city Xon, numbering ten thousand inhabitants, was entirely peaceful. The only noise was the Moon singing her silvery song to the empty slopes; no shining sun was displayed, for he had long dipped his fires below Mount Krayappa.

At this ungodly hour, where even the owls had fallen asleep and the fireflies gone silent, there lay awake only a single Xalian out of ten thousand; Hor-Hetep’s sleep schedule was ruined after long hours spent awake discussing how best to win the favor of his chieftains. The king stared at the cold indifferent snow swirling in icy ripples onto the earth; he hated the snow flurries, the endless cold that pierced the bones and chilled the blood. He desired and dreamed of a better place, a place where you could take off your endless layers of fur and bask under the sun’s radiance on the slopes of a mountain like Xal.

Eventually he must have finally fallen asleep, for he found himself in that better place, surrounded by crystal-clear streams brimming with catch and endless green fields of ripe plants ready for harvest. And he heard his god’s voice calling out to him.

“Hor-Hetep, my faithful servant,” the mountain-god Xal proclaimed, “you have borne the burdens of a king utterly devoted to his people. You desire a place of perpetual summertime rather than eternal winter, where lush trees displaying every kind of food stretch to the horizon.” God’s voice echoed into the earth, making vibrations that shook his body like grass in the wind. ‘But look! Here is that place you so desperately desire! Is it not amazing?” Xal’s voice shook slightly at the end.

Hor-Hetep could not think of anything to answer with.

“No need to speak. Just listen. When you wake, order an expedition immediately south from here. There is a people there, a quite powerful one, although you outnumber them greatly. Kill them. Displace them. Enslave them. They are an obstacle on the pathway to this land of epicurean plenty.”

Hor-Hetep’s voice was dry when he spoke. “O God King Xal, good lord of the universe, I shall do as you say. I trust that the majority of chieftains shall follow me?”

“Oh, yes. Once they know my will, they shall follow you to the ends of the earth, beyond Mount Krayappa. I trust that you shall carry out my will flawlessly. Remind me, what are your line’s words?”

“Live by the sword, die by the sword.”

civilization name

Da'ar'kae'aeiah

year

6, in Alohi's count. It skips a number because of significance to Alohi herself. Even though she made this "system," Darkaeiahi wanted still to remember her in one way or another so instead of going normally from "4" to "5," it jumps to "6" all because of her.

events

From warring with the nomads all in/around the peninsula, there were more males than females - or atleast, more "masculines" than "feminines." Elterah was thinking of not only "clearing the land" and "expanding Darkaeiahi Culture" but also expanding out further westward. She was told, by Alys, that the sailing had went well. There were alot of boats made, even around the time of Alohi - only that no one was using them until Alys and those girls with her went out and into the waters.

Now, with Alys' explorations, some boats were being used. Elterah was thinking that there could've been a use for the new people taken into Da'ar'kae'aeiah instead of them just sitting around on the peninsula. Too, making usage of the new numbers of people within the area. Elterah can hear her mothers' call for the land to be fully-populated instead of the relatively-small mass there was currently. This territory can house alot of people yet doesn't, which was strange.

Some women did rites and rituals, communing with the moon - while it was still visible in nighttime - talking to her, asking her their questions. Asking her, wanting help in peopling Da'ar'kae'aeiah.

When Alys was resting, she was thinking of making good on herself being the reincarnation of a special person - but her mind only really went towards exploration and land. Finding new land, delving deep into the sea and seeing what was there - things like that.

Not that she didn't have the dexterity to come up with things. She did. Just that she was "geared" more towards being a living star - a symbol meant to show others where things were.

Elterah, in talking, was coming to the point of - "why not do both?" Why not work on peopling Da'ar'kei'aeiah but also on using the other boats and sailing out, or when there were more people - the current mass of people could move onto the islands they had sailed. Only they had seen them but didn't make landing on those islands - just looking in the sea and getting ideas together.

Elterah mentioned to Alys that she could come up with something more with the boats - newer things to add onto the boats. If she was Alohi's next life - then why not act on it?

Alys then was taking whatever she could find, and cobbling things. Seeing whatever'd stuck together. What was to work - only out of curiousity. And if they could work with the preexisting vessels, then she'd try to create something to "add onto the boats."

All of the recent conclusions were leading up to one thing; Da'ar'kai'eiah needed to stretch out. In every direction. And also house more people.

Though the thought wasn't to go northwards into the land up there. A thought was to go onto the islands but also westwards where the peninsula had pointed. Maybe all Da'ar'kai'eiah would have to move onto the islands and the remainder - the newer people - stayed on the peninsula.

Growth meant more choices. And they were going to make good use of the choices presented to them by the Great Mother. They were to, not really act out and "punish" every other tribe or so they were - only warring in their recent memory as Alohi was a new, important figure to them and they had no desire to change any aspect of hers. Any sort of "clash" between Da'ar'kai'eiah and another group of people, was to mean Alohi was to become grounded in Da'ar'kai'eiah Culture and her offspring - or whomever was next - would be still "flying," so to speak, off of her gains. From her success meant the success of all Da'ar'kai'eiah.

Carts, maps, stars and canoes

Civilization name: Runakuna
Region: Pampa region in South America
Step: wheel, cartography, astronomy.

Image

Another series of years passed, and the descendants of Ikkautli saw a slightly different picture around them: a wide road passed near the settlement - an embankment of pressed soil raised above the plain. Carts pulled by a new species of animal - guanaco - creaked along the road. These ungulates had been domesticated recently, their herds had been driven from the western foothills, where the brave explorers of the Son of the Sun had already penetrated.

As for the wheeled cart, it was generated by the construction of pedestrian roads and buildings. The fact is that all structures were built on embankments, and these embankments were rammed with a roller, a log of araucaria. For wide roads, a wide roller was used, and for narrow paths, it was necessary to chop off the log from the edges, making the roller narrower. Very narrow log stumps were used as stools. .. And so it occurred to one of the porters, when his partner was injured at the construction site, to replace his partner with his own stool, a piece of log, by threading an axle through it and securing the cylindrical piece to the other end of the construction stretcher. The other builders began to imitate their resourceful colleague, and soon acquired one-wheeled wheelbarrows. Word of this reached the Son of the Sun. He ordered a hundred children, inquisitive and inventive, to gather in a large hall - and encouraged them to mold wheeled toys from clay. There were ceramic baths and basins, carts with two, three, four and even eight wheels. The children's imagination was inexhaustible. Then the officials chose the most interesting toys and instructed the craftsmen to implement the projects in wood (sometimes, however, supplementing the wooden frame with a felt cabin or clay container). The wheels of these carts had no spokes or rims - they were narrow round logs with a hole in the middle. Such a wheel served for years. Carts were built without nails, because metals were unknown in this region. A wooden rod was driven into a wet wheel, a second wet wheel was driven onto it, then the wheels dried and the axle was tightly clamped. After that, a wooden platform with sides was installed on the axle, and a pair of muscular guanacos were harnessed to the cart. Single-seat carriages were also created, driven by people-rickshaws. Of course, the rickshaws (as well as the builders) were young people mobilized for annual public works - this was their initiation, after which the young men were considered adults and could have offspring. Carts could carry more cargo than foot porters, pack guanacos and vicuñas. The roads had to be built stronger for them, they were accompanied by bridges, ferries, roadside inns, post stations. Local and capital warehouses had to be expanded. Workshops for the production and repair of carriages appeared in large settlements.

They began to travel more often and over longer distances. Someone once came up with the idea of drawing a travel route on clay with a branch. Quite soon, such maps of the area on ceramic plates, round and rectangular, appeared at officials. The maps became more and more detailed. The invention of maps prompted not only land travel, but also sailing along the ocean shores in large rowing canoes. Here, stargazing also came in handy - an adobe pyramid observatory was built in the capital for this purpose, and the Learned Brother and his assistants compiled a map of the starry sky on a huge clay panel. Reduced copies of this map were distributed to sailors to help them navigate by the stars.

Not only maps were carved on clay, but also ornaments, images of people and vicunas, houses and towers. Very often, a thread with knots was hung on a ceramic button with a picture - counting the number of houses under the picture of the house, counting the corn under the picture of the cob. And little by little, written messages were composed from these pictures. An alphabet was created on ceramic plates. And with knotted writing it became possible to transmit not only numbers, but also the coordinates of the alphabet pictogram on a clay tablet - and instead of bulky ceramic plates, carry portable bundles of knotted threads. So woolen threads with knots became not only a counting tool, but also a notebook.

Lands of Karjaam
decades 8 to 11 of Tyrubechean calendar

Rise of Tybyeg ( the Karjaamite-barbarian chief of Gurmant ) was an unpleasant, yet understandable event for Karjaamite elites of the other four towns. However, Tybyeg soon proved them that he will be one of the most memorable town chiefs in the history of Karjaam .
Just after being elected by his former mercenary friends in the Gurmant's Council of Elders, he started his plan to prevent Any rivalry between Gurmant and Ferub, who had some "who has the right pillage this village" conflicts before. The solution was simple and efficient: Every village in the east of Neynun river(which was located between the two towns) would pay tribute to Ferub, when Villages west to Neynun would belong to Gurmant. After that, he raided southward to gain tribute from more villages, Strengthened Gurmant's Outposts in north, making it have the best Access to new mercenaries , built a new Market, Five more Temples, Four new public bathhouse and two more huge warehouses, rebuilt the Council's building, And Built a wall around the Town. These combining with a major population boom made Gurmant the greatest town in Karjaam.
And just after that, Tybyeg sent his Armies to Attack Muijam and siege the town until they accepted to cade four more villages to Gurmant.
But Tybyeg's greatest achievement was taking early canoes used by fishers and making large, actually efficient boats. He used them to move southward sailing trough the Neynun, and pillahing even more villages.
And finally, after 20 years of ruling and 50 years of life, when he was about to die, he ordered his Artists to inscript an Inscription. Thus he saved his name in stone.
I'm Tybyeg, son of Trymun. I'm Tybyeg, The greatest chief , The blessed son of Ruyin and Seymin, The greatest constructor, The most Sacred Ruler, The protector of God Unur. I built Temples and sacrificed Animals in them, for the gods to bless the city of Gurmant. I built Gurmant again and made it more shining than ever. I brought peace and waged war, I pillaged the most villages and I killed the most people, for the happiness of Seymin. I built Temples and saved all stories of Karjaam in my memory, for the joy of Ruyin. May the Sky god bless me, his faithful slave and his powerful Cheif, and place me in the world of the dead in a place as good as the place I had in the world of the Living [....]
- part of Tybyeg's Inscription

civilization name

Darkaeiah

year

7, in Alohi's count.

events

It was seeming like one drastic change to another - when the women compared things from "4" to "6," and even in the eve of "7," with many saying that in the writings of Darkaeiah and the region herself - there was going to be rectification. Starting with the obvious which was Darkaeiahi Culture/religion and Alohi/Alys then to Elterah and every other daughter of the moon. Because of the "drastic changes" that were throwing off the much-treasured balances in Darkaeiah, collectively, the females of the land were saying that the Great Mother, while there was a part of her in everyone and everything -

at the same time -

she chose to reflect herself in some people, i.e, she would take human form. Too, her daughter or other special people - they had a place in the grander scheme-of-things and so the Great Mother chose to bring them back as well.

There had to be balance but what was throwing off the balance was the ancient demon acting, and in Darkeiahi writings it was said he acted through creatures though they didn't know them to be the proto-alligators/crocodiles. Everytime Darkeiahi went deeper and deeper into their land and enjoyed themselves in Nature - there was an evil organism licking his fangs, waiting to sink them into the creations of the moon.

Too, war - such as the past wars - had happened because of the balances being thrown off. As the moon treasured balance of everyone and everything, yet the will of the Great Mother was being challenged. Yet the demon could've been sending or creating agents to act against her. Yet in some cultures and societies, men ran everything and females were nothing but cattle - which caused Darkaeiah to fight them aswell and cast off their shackles; teaching those patriarchical lands the significance of the moon and those acting in her stead.

When Darkaeiahi came to the conclusion of migrating onto the islands "southwards" of the peninsula, they, before that, had made markers and temples. Not only for the people besides Darkaeiah, the new/younger inhabitants - but for those who had never heard of these people, they would know and learn that Darkaeiahi had dwelled in the peninsula and all over it, for ages. The peninsula itself became something of a "colony" or satellite; the two peoples were eternally connected for Darkaeiah had birthed a new culture in her voyage to the islands.

Now it was Ro'ose'kei'aeiah (Roseaeiah) and Da'ar'kei'aeiah (Darkaeiah), with Da'ar'kei'aeiah keeping in contact with Ro'ose'kei'aeiah regularly so that the shared-culture would remain, even if Roseaeiahi Culture would splinter off into her own thing - atleast the Roseaeiahi would've known of their land-mother.

civilization name

Da'ar'kae'aeiah/Ro'os'aei'eiah (or "Ro'ose'kei'aeiah")

year

8, according to Alohis' count. Roseaekeiah shares the same count due to being interrelated peoples.

events

There was a significant change in color, some had theorized it was because of the Great Mother - but this change had to be spurred on because of smaller changes in Da'ar'kae'aeiah. "Pink" and "blue," even though they were called something different in the Darkaeiahi language, stopped being the colors used to represent Da'ar'kae'aeiah as a whole or the Great Mother who was primarily regarded as having some sort of relation to the "color pink" and things after her being "reddened" but things sharing her characteristics or embodying her, being "blued" - now it was "purple" and "red." Art/fashion still had a great link to Da'ar'kae'aeiah and too, Ro'ose'kei'aeiah - with that link being treasured even to some extent above Alohis' creations. Feminines would create more art, but also write - and write more -

about Alohi and the time in which she'd lived. Then the time(s) before Alohi. All of that was regarded as "1," in Alohis' count. Things written down about "2," "3" and even "4," would've had more clarification or expansion as Darkaeiahi wanted the younger/future generations to have a more expanded knowledge about the future besides prewritten things and the structures on Roseaeaiah. "1," all the way to "4," saw not only clarification on what was already written but correction as the daughter of the moon was noticing spiritual attacks on Da'ar'kai'aeiah. The demon and his parademons/agents would slowly-but-surely change things about Darkaeiahi Culture or their history, trying to undermine their mother. Maybe even the great yoke would sneak his way onto the Darkaeiahi.

Darkaeiahi, through Aslynd (another name for the Great Mother), had blessed the entire world - through creation. Through Alohis' creations - which was Alys' creations and the incarnation after. This was believed by both Darkaeiahi and Roseaeiahi, and when Roseaeiahi had looked on the remains of the dead/extinct peoples in their land - they saw creations similar to that of Alohis'. Same, or similar tools for fishing et al. Darkaeiahi culture had snuck her way up onto them, but it was said by Roseaeiahi that as their mother had been there for ages - the land would share tendencies relating to Darkaeiah.

Setura, a young girl, read the accounts from Darkaeiah when they had dwelled in the peninsula. They stated how the men hadn't loved nature, only trying to bend her to their will or corrupting it - which in some societies/cultures, the feminines/women were "cattle" to them. That, was regarded too as "the great yoke," the patriarchy was said "great yoke," and it itself was a creation or manifestation of the ancient demon which for time immemorial had tried to bend everyone and everything to him.

If those peoples/societies hadn't lived by nature side-by-side, if they didn't cherish or care for her - they would collapse and become extinct; even maybe, those doing her will, would war them - same as the wars against those trying to blind Darkaeiahi and the wars-of-liberation. Patriarchs/men, liars/corrupted - there was a pattern. To the highly-superstitious Darkaeiahi, everything was magically linked to one another; patterns were everywhere. They, for a time, hadn't fought wars. But then "suddenly, in a great change-of-great changes," there were wars waged between Da'ar'kae'aeiah and other peoples.

In ceremonies and in rituals - some taking place in buildings though it was uncommon to worship/commune within buildings due to their religious belief/love of nature - they were pleading, hoping, wishing for the wars to end. For both Darkaeiahi and Roseaeiahi to not have a series of wars. For the ancient demon to become silent - an eclipse, though they didn't know that was what it was - and for many other things.

Hor-Hetep looked back at the ceaseless sea of people behind him, stretching in a lazy column for as long as a league. They had been on the trail southward for three days now, and if the king had to guess they had covered perhaps twenty leagues at the most. Persistent snow flurries had blanketed the ground, covering up the foreign plant life around these parts—it would be winter soon.

Eighty thousand people were in this host, just over half of Ga Xal’s 150,000 population. Hor-Hetep had not been able to take everybody—there were the old and the sick, mothers with babies, the disabled and the few cowards who were reluctant to leave their homeland. He predicted that the cravens would die soon in this coming winter, for he had taken much of the kingdom’s food reserves to eat on the march. Their tight-knit host would not starve while he held breath, he had reasoned when he gave the order.

He himself was bundled in several layers of furs, with his ancestral sword strapped onto his back—Angoth. The bronze sword was centuries old, forged in the time of Xo-Xon, the legendary first king of Ga Xal who had been the son of God himself. He always kept it near him, night and day, for he was the fighting lord of the Xalian people, and a fighter needs his blade close to slay treacherous men.

Xal had not spoken to him since he had woken up from that first dream, though this did not alienate him; the mountain was the eternal ruler of all, and it was a fabled honor to exchange even a few words with him. Such a thing had not been happened in as much as a century, since the days of the ninth king of Xal, Ny-Aha, who had exterminated an unholy rebellion with Angoth and his armies. His thoughts turned to the foreign people—he hoped that they were near, so that he could instantly plunge into fighting. He always felt great with his sword in his hand and an insult on his lips, ready to give his life fighting enemies and infidels.

He hoped that he could be as great of a king as Ny-Aha, or even Xo-Xon. Those two had been legendary rulers—the former crushing a revolt and ensuring the unity of Ga Xal, the latter taking the land of Xalia for his people to settle in perpetuity. But now he, Hor-Hetep, 13th king of Ga Xal, would be the first ruler in history to make contact with a completely different people—one that had been acknowledged as “powerful” by God. If he destroyed it, his name would be repeated in households for generations to come, and the wealth and land gained from such a venture would be fabulous. And the best part was that it was divinely ordained. There would be no doubt among his people that it was justified.

It had been a dream of his even before he learned about the other civilization. Sword in hand. Some foreign city burning before him, its men cut down, its women and children taken as slaves. Loyal Xalians taking out loot from the ruins, his entire being suffused by the bloodlust of his god. One day he would seek to make that dream a reality. But—as he checked the horizon and saw no signs of civilization—probably not today, at the least.
