[λ] What If Every US County Was A State?

What if every United States county (and county-equivalent) was its own state? How would it work? How would this effect politics, economy, culture, history, etc? Would it be better or worse then our current system? Personally I don’t think the system would hold out for long. Too many counties (now states) to manage, each with their own laws, governors, senators, etc; it would collapse in on itself.

A fun, hypothetical scenario thread created. Be respectful and be creative.

Thousands, actually. And like what was said above, does anyone realize how many counties have the same name? It's almost as if each state has its own Orange County, Brown County, Lake County, River County, Washington County, Jefferson County, etc.

That was originally the idea for the flag, they were going to add a stripe for each state when they added the first 2 new states, which is why for years the US flag had 15 stars and 15 stripes, but it caused a problem when more states started being added and they realized more stripes would be a mess.
