Gestonia PM Election of 2024 - Election day and Results

Postby Gestonia » Sun Nov 03, 2024 10:48 am

November 3rd, 2024

Today is the big day of the legislative elections in Gestonia. 5 parties and 4 candidates for prime minister are fighting to elect as many senators as possible and to be decisive in the formation of the next government, which could last from two to four years. Elections for senators are held every two years, but surveys indicate that, due to the fatigue of a large part of the Gestonia population with electoral politics, the next government will most likely be reelected without difficulty in 2026.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 5 p.m., with the first results expected to be announced as early as 5:30 p.m., since Owon State, the least populous state in the country, is made up of 10 small towns with a total of only about 52,000 voters.

Voting has been generally calm, but hectic, as engaged voters are anxious to vote as quickly as possible because there is a rumor that the polls will close at 5 p.m. regardless of whether there are people in line to vote or not. In other words, if you were a voter in Gestonia in a voting line at 5 p.m. today, you would no longer vote because the polls will close anyway. The rumor started with a group of voters of current Prime Minister John Texas Goodlooking on Telegram commenting on the election.

User 1, 7:40 a.m.: Here in my section in Delawor, everyone is wearing green [the color of the ruling party]. I think we're going to win here.
User 2, 7:41 AM: Here in Alabema too, it's going to be a massacre.
User 3, 7:43 AM: Hehe, the Trussendarts are going to faint with this result. We're going to win in the first round by a wide margin! I'm just going to church and then I'm going to have lunch, and then I'll vote.
User 2: No! you better go soon, the polls will close after five!
User 3: I've been voting since 2016, if there are people in line they leave them open.
User 4: Look, I spoke to the poll worker at my section and she said that as soon as it hits 5 o'clock they'll close.
User 3: Huh, and did they change?!
User 4: They're saying that they did. And that's why the PM voted early, he voted around 7:30.
User 1: Yes! He was here, I took a picture with Abigail [Goodlooking, the PM's youngest daughter], she's a super nice person. Since she's 14, she can't vote, so she stayed talking to us at the polling station, there were only our people there. I bet the opposition will only vote in the afternoon.
User 3: It would be really funny if that happened
User 2: So I have to tell my sister, she's going to vote for TrussenBaby for senator [Elliot Trussendart, Elizabeth Trussendart's son].
User 3: There's still time to change her vote, don't let her throw it away like that, TrussenBaby is the worst candidate, he almost attacked Nicolaus X in a debate with him on Tuesday.
User 5, Drussian who immigrated to Gestonia: He didn't even go to the real debate at night because of the scolding he was going to get from Key Ivay. These Trussendarts think they're the best in the world. I agree with my former monarch. If I had to choose between Elizabeth and Arden, I'd choose Arden.
User 1: She certainly had the upper hand to make an excellent government with the help of Nicolaus X, but her ego spoke louder. They're both horrible, but at least the other one is less narcissistic, and I think a government by either of them would have the same result now. But then, Drussian, when did you come here?
User 5: After Nicolaus X abdicated, Nicole II is our Thatcher. I preferred not to risk it. I don't want my son to have to become a shoeshine boy to get ahead in life. I want him to study and only start working at 18 to pay for college.
User 1: Thatcher is cool. People hate her because they associate her with Elizabeth Trussendart. If it weren't for Maxim III, we'd have two more years of that crazy woman or Arden winning by landslide, God forbid, it would be like the US.
User 5: Arden is still better than Kamala, Kamala is going to be a disaster! She's going to make Biden look like a statesman! #Trump2024
User 1: Kamala is radioactive to her and she's already losing left-wing votes to the socialists, so she has to rationalize her speech. That populist promise of hers to build affordable housing has already gone out the window, she said she'll only do it "if she has the money for it".
User 6: Oh yes, the current government delivers everything in order and then she starts spending on this populist crap unbridled, like in Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela and then to cover the hole she shoves a bunch of taxes down our throats, like the other PM from her party did...No way! Let's paint the map of Gestonia green in this election! If you haven't voted yet, go now, because after noon, the line will be long because the opposition will vote in large numbers! AND IT WILL CLOSE AT 5 PM!"

And this generated a mass reaction in other groups and media attention.

Democrats Telegram group:

"User 1: Guys, for the love of God, it's going around social media and in the media that the fascist government is going to close the polls at 5 pm all over the country. IGNORING THE LINES!
User 2: He can't do that, how absurd! There are the elderly, those who vote late, minorities who have difficulty voting, places where there are naturally long lines. I knew this sh*tty government was going to do something to steal the election.
User 3: I don't know if I'll be able to vote, I get off work at 4 pm!
User 1: Ask for a day off, where do you work?
User 3: At the mall...at the food court. People are going to eat and watch movies after voting, so it's operating normally. It's crowded here...
User 4: This has never happened before, what nonsense is this?!
User 2: This is a conspiracy, most mall owners support the government!
User 1: Nicolaus X said to a follower on Instagram: "I'll check with the PM, but if you can, vote early. It's better to be safe than sorry."
User 2: Easy for him to say, only rich people follow him.
User 1: And the Drussians.
User 2: The Drussians only come here with money, the poor Drussians are getting screwed by Nicole Thatcher. That's why the government people don't hate them, because they come here so their children don't become cheap labor and they like to work themselves to death because of this damned psychopathic Reaganite saying that this is what makes a human being worthy. And since they're white and right-wing, the fascists here love them.
User 1: I don't know, they say that many of them will vote embarrassedly for the left.
User 2: That would be great.
User 4: Guys, look at this.

And he puts up a video of Arden after voting talking to voters.

Arden: Gestonians, don't worry. I have already sent a request to the electoral authorities that FORCES the government to leave the polls open if there are queues, and if the courts comply and the government fails to comply with the order, it will not be committing a crime of responsibility, it will be committing a criminal offense. Disobeying a court order can result in imprisonment! If a polling station with a queue closes at 5 pm, Goodlooking will fall today, write what I'm saying!

And the democrats in the queue celebrate.

User 3: Thank God!
User 2: What Kamala and Starmer? Arden is a MOTHER to us!
User 3: I hope the courts comply.
User 2: We will know at 2 pm."

And to avoid being framed by a court decision, PM John Texas Goodlooking made a statement on national television that was broadcast on social media.

Goodlooking: Citizens of Gestonia, I came here today to dispel the panic that is being spread regarding the closing time of the polling stations.

To clarify once and for all, the electoral court had decided in court decision 4569 of the Supreme Electoral Court that from 2024 onwards the polls would close at the same time throughout the national territory and to compensate for possible inconveniences, the start time of voting was brought forward from the traditional 8 am to 7 am. Before anyone questions us for allegedly not having given the appropriate warnings, this decision was made during the previous government and our social media and electoral propaganda on radio and television insistently warned that this change would happen.

The reason for this decision was the realization that some research institutes and television channels were projecting electoral results from certain locations while voting was still taking place in those locations. One example was when MSNBC projected the victory of current Senator Jaylynn Arden for governor of Zimp in 2016, another when the current Democratic Senator from Alabema won the 2023 special legislative election...this one was particularly controversial and the last one I will mention here was when Sayori Yuziki was projected to win the conservative primary for the Delawor senatorial election this year, and this is the most controversial of all because technically there was an error. Yes, Yuziki won according to electoral laws, but the result was a tie between her and a younger candidate, and many say that this erroneous projection may have influenced the final result. To avoid situations like this, it was decided that it is now forbidden to make projections of results and exit polls before the closing of the polls and that to avoid logistical delays, the polls would close at 5 because less populous results could have their results projected as of 5:30 or 6:00 p.m.

However, to avoid any scares in more populated areas, I spoke to the electoral judges and they understood that given the way voting is proceeding smoothly and quickly in the less populated states, with the possibility of there being little or no movement in their polling stations before 5:00 p.m., the polls in the most populated states may only close at 6:00 p.m. In other words, if you live in states with more than 500,000 voters, you will be able to go to a voting line and remain there until 5:59 p.m. After that, the polling stations will close, but those in line will be able to vote until 6:30 p.m. I hope this has been enlightening.

And may God bless Gestonia.

Responses to the statement:

Media against the government:

* To avoid defeat, the government blames the electoral justice system for a situation it itself created, distorts the content of decision 4569, which only prohibited projections while people were still voting, and speaks as if it were the winner of the situation.
* Goodlooking distorts reality and insinuates that projections of results are made too early to benefit the left. The projections use statistical and scientific methodology and there have been situations in which the projections showed results favorable to current allies of the government and even contradicted electoral polls that actually underestimated these allies in some places.
* With the addition of J-O-E, the government has more international adversaries than allies. And if we are to be strict, only Ejorike is in fact an ally of the government, despite the current empress's brother Nicolaus X supporting JTG much more vehemently than Nicole II.
* "A government victory would cause instability, anyone who says otherwise is crazy, misinformed or a liar" says Jaylynn Arden after voting.
* For the majority of the population of Krillin Nicolaus X and allies have signs of psychopathy, says study.
* Government officials are already trying to blame a potential Harris administration and a supposed imminent global recession for any negative economic results in the medium term if Goodlooking is reelected, says a geopolitical scholar.

Government supporter media:

* PM Goodlooking ends the hysteria caused by the left and once again brings order to the chaos.
* Opposition member of the current J-O-E government tells us anonymously that the current local government reduced the budget for the milk distribution program for needy children to make more military weapons (OOC: Fake News)
* Ryan goes crazy and says that closing the polls at 5 pm would have been an attempt to rig the election.
* Nicolaus X claims that voters who support the current government usually vote early to avoid very long lines on a regular basis and that supposed guidance to do so would be Fake News from the progressive media.
* Kamala Harris' victory could cause a global recession, "her policies scare the financial market and she shows no commitment to fiscal responsibility" says expert.
* "Trump is a liberal Democrat and we disagree with some of his vacillating positions on the behavioral front, but a Harris government would be a global financial disaster and we are afraid that this will affect Gestonia," says Minister of the Economy Edter Paul Capt Yevdokim.

Winner: Liberal-Democrat (2)

6 pm - Zimp (157,890 voters)

A dangerous state, the state of the Democratic candidate for PM of Gestonia, Jaylynn Arden. Normally, it would be a sure victory for the candidate due to her national relevance, but as this election is very competitive between the five main parties and there is an effort by the COP to liquidate the opposition, Arden is apprehensive about the real chances of losing the race. There is a 20% chance by the draw, good luck to Arden.

Incumbent: Democrat (Jaylynn Arden)

Drawn: https://imgur.com/03rdMzV
Winner: Democrat (1)

News coverage:

* Tradition continues, at least for the Democrats, and Arden manages to be reelected in Zimp.
* COP loses the election in the three smallest states of Gestonia, but this does not yet indicate whether the government will get 31 senators today or only on November 24. If it gets, of course.
* Red wave? Liberal-Democratic Party surprises and wins in two of the three smallest states in the country. The long-awaited race in Owon gave victory to the party of the late Senator Ronaldo Latores.
* Democratic campaign minimizes losses in smaller states: "This election was especially competitive and we campaigned more in the larger states. Arden's reelection in Zimp was a big win, we'll know later if it was a landslide or a close call."
* Arden thanks for re-election in Zip: Thank you, Zimpians for this simbolic vote of confidence! The people of Zimp trust in my work, I hope the people of Gestonia will trust me too. If I am elected, I will do what I did in Zimp throughout Gestonia. I hope that Zimp's result is repeated in most states in this country, enough of JTG and Trussendart!

Results - Part 2 (OOC: after 1 personal interval)

6:42 PM - Lincoln D. C. (210,513 votes)

Lincoln D. C.

Incumbent: Democrat

Drawn: (https://imgur.com/HGQggYD)
Winner: Liberal-Democrat (3)

News:
* A historic progressive bastion, Lincoln D.C. has a party change in one of its senatorial seats for the first time since 1992, the year of the first legislative election in Gestonia. The Democratic leadership is starting to get scared, COP voters are starting to worry, but the party leadership tries to reassure them by saying that there are still 26 states to be decided.
* "Using these results to say that there is probably a red wave is idiotic, there have only been four states so far and all the incumbents were Democrats," says Richard Zed.
* "Of course this makes us happy, but there is no dazzlement. There have only been four states, maybe in the fifth we will see something different already happening," says the leader of the liberal-democratic party in the senate.

6:54 - Franciun (278,931 voters)

Incumbent: Liberal-democrat

7:00 - Treinton (310,143 votes)

Incumbent: Conservative

Drawn: (https://imgur.com/LABYz2v)
Winner: Conservative (2)

7:08 - Bowsters (314,508 voters)

The last of the least populous states. The draws in the next ones will be made with a larger wheel, including possibilities of a second round. If no candidate reaches 50% of the votes, there will be a second round between the top two.

Incumbent: Conservative

Drawn: (https://imgur.com/sfgwIYW)
Winner: Socialist (1)

News:

* Socialists surprise with ridiculously narrow victory in Bowsters. For the first time in history, the party of Corwel East and the controversial Dedrerick Ryan will have a senator.
* COP voters are starting to get angry because the party did not win in any of the small states.
- "It was a matter of honor, couldn't we win at least one?"
- "I'm getting nervous, but they say our electorate is more concentrated in the big states... maybe that's it... maybe if there were a second round in these states we would win...please God, we want to reelect the great John Texas Goodlooking!"
* "Situation in the small states may indicate a much more complicated scenario for the COP than previously imagined", says Richard Zed
* "Democrats only won in Zimp and socialists won by a very small margin in Bowsters, calm down people, for God's sake." says Abigail Goodlooking on X.
* "Small states are more conservative and centrist, at least apparently. We need to see the margins of victory to understand better," says political expert.

Results - Part 3

Now we will start to evaluate the most populous states. Here there is a possibility that the electoral race will continue until November 24th in some states.

The scenario so far is frightening for the COP, the governing party. Bad for the Democratic Party, which lost three seats. Relatively good for the Socialists, since they never had a seat and now they will have at least one. And good for the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats, who together won 5 of the seven least populous states. Let's see if this trend continues or if in larger states the trend will be different. Honestly, I think it would be ridiculous and comical for the COP not to win any seats.

7:45 pm - New Drussia (now it's being random, I don't intend to search in my factbooks how many voters each of the most populous states has)

Incumbent: Liberal-democrat

Winner: TbD (Second Round on November 24)

Second Round:

Christian Order Party x Conservative

8 pm - Alabema

Incumbent: Conservative

Drawn: (https://imgur.com/KQo93GP)
Winner: TbD (Second Round on November 24)

Second Round:

Christian Order Party (Key Ivay) x Conservative (Elliot Trussendart)

News:

* Ronaldo Latores' successor and Liberal Democratic Party incumbent, Richard Nuñes, loses the race to keep the seat won by the young senator in 2022. The second round will be dominated by the right, with COP and the conservative party competing for the seat.
* "We want victories, for God's sake!" reacts the COP leader in the state with the situation where COP has not won any seats definitively so far. The party needs 7 to win an absolute majority on November 3.
* "The new Drussia scenario may indicate that COP is stronger in more polarized scenarios, but we will only know that with more states. Nuñes' defeat reassures the party's left wing, which feared that his group would dominate the party after Latores' death." says Richard Zed.
* The Alabema race will be between former state governor Key Ivay and Elizabeth Trussendart's son, Elliot Trussendart. Democratic candidate Delilah Owens narrowly misses out.
* Nicolaus X disdains defeat against Elliot Trussendart. "There was no effort on my part to get him out of the second round, the left-wing candidate was more dangerous. Now I will focus exclusively on Alabema, it is a matter of honor for me that Elizabeth Trussendart pays for wanting to corrupt my people in my beloved Drussia and Key Ivay is the best candidate by far."

News:

* After a night of apprehension, the COP registers its first definitive victory in Twen. Voters celebrate. Now it has to hold Delawor and win in 6 more states.
John Texas Goodlooking: Twen will not be the last victory, we will keep the National Christian Government because God is with us. God bless Twen and Gestonia.
* Abigail Goodlooking: Now is the time for a turnaround, let's go for it (and she puts this music in the background of a fancam of Nicolaus X when he was reigning emperor of Drussia, Maxim III of Ejorike and her father: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQPLrxn8JOc)
* Elijah Goodlooking: The forces of darkness were already celebrating the election as if everything was already lost for us. Fools, little do they know that it is in hardship that Christians grow stronger!
* "HA HA HA, they celebrate victory in ONE state as if it were the definitive victory, that is called despair. This election is showing that the strong name of the Gestonian right IS ME!" Says Elizabeth Trussendart. "Don't beg for my forgiveness, Nicholas, you have disappointed me greatly. Pay the consequences for your perfidious and opportunistic attitudes against me."
* "I don't want your forgiveness, I will defeat you in Alabema and you have already been defeated because Maxim III exposed us all the viper that you are", reacts the former monarch of Drussia.
* "We cannot create illusions, the scenario for the left is terrible. As far as I have seen, the Democratic Party has only won in Zimp. Thank God we socialists have had two victories. If we defeat the COP, we will be able to build a larger bench in 2026 with the great work of the elected senators. The left has to stop being childish and celebrate the COP's defeats so far, there are still several states to go, then we can celebrate (if they lose for good), I know it's great that the COP hasn't yet reached an absolute majority, but calm down." says Dedrerick Ryan.
* "I disagree with Ryan's thinking, even though I understand that many thought that at this point in the championship the COP would be celebrating its overwhelming victory. This is indeed celebratory, it means that the COP's victory today, if it comes, will not be easy." says the party's candidate for PM Corwel East.
* Kamala Harris's special advisor for Gestonia reacts to our political situation with the current results: "Something is wrong in this country, how is Jaylynn Arden's beautiful campaign having so little popular support so far? Could it be that JTG's attacks on Kamala are having an effect?"
* Nicolaus X's supporters credit Trump with the Conservative Party's current performance in Gestonia: "If he had supported the COP, we would have already won." The Latin American left jokingly blames Jair Bolsonaro and Javier Milei for the COP's performance so far.

* The Democratic Party already sees itself as defeated today, Alexandrina Ocazio Corteziba's defeat in New Berlin scares the party, which fears becoming dwarfed in the next legislature.
* "Apparently the socialists' smear campaign against the progressive Democrats has worked, I hope they don't end up throwing the country into the hands of the COP with this" says Patrick Rajaram.
* "AOC's defeat in New Berlin makes her unviable as a candidate for prime minister in the short term, perhaps the identitarian wing of the party prefers Patrick Rajaram as leader now, especially if he performs better in Delawor" says Richard Zed.
* Senator AOC's tragedy, how an easy re-election turned into a humiliating defeat.
* "I will reflect on my political life to try to understand why the New Berlin electorate decided not to re-elect me this year," says now lame duck senator AOC.

* Tradition is broken: PM John Texas Goodlooking fails to be reelected in the first round in Delawor. He will have to run in the second round against socialist candidate Dedrerick Ryan.
* Elijah Goodlooking says he was surprised by Delawor's result: "It doesn't make sense with what we saw on the streets during our rallies, Delawor was a sea of green, this doesn't make any sense! I have a bad feeling in the air, we need to be alert and prepare to act!"
* "We may have finished behind in the first round, but we are going all out to win this second round. In the first round we defeated Trussendart and Elon Musk, now we will defeat JTG and Maxim III!" says Dedrerick Ryan in a speech reacting to the symbolic victory of having prevented a comfortable victory for the PM in his own seat. PM Goodlooking reacted that he will be re-elected comfortably "with almost 70% of the votes".

Final result:

-> Races already decided (final balance):

* Liberal-Democratic Party - 9 wins, 3 losses (+6)
* Socialist Party - 2 wins (+2)
* Christian Order Party - 1 win (+1)
* Democratic Party - 7 losses, 2 wins, 2 holds (-5)
* Conservative Party - 11 losses, 2 wins, 1 holds (-12)

Seats where it is yet to be decided whether they will remain under the same party or be swapped: 7

-> Second Round Races

* COP (9 races)
* Conservative (5 races)
* Liberal-Democrat (4 races)
* Socialist (3 races)
* Democrat (3 races)

-> Number of senators now (needed for absolute majority)

COP: 25 (+6)
Liberal-democratic: 12 (unattainable)
Democratic: 10 (unattainable)
Conservative: 6 (unattainable)
Socialist: 2 (unattainable)

Afthermath:

The National Christian Government (and by extension the COP) failed to achieve its goal of concluding this election today, still needing 6 seats to obtain an absolute majority.

After losing a chunk of its elected senators in 2023 with their defection to the COP, Elizabeth Trussendart's Conservative Party lost the majority of its current senators, leaving it in an even more fragile political position. Trussendart's most significant victory in this election was managing to prevent Nicolaus Ten from removing Elliot Trussendart from the runoff against Key Ivay in her home state of Alabama. Nicolaus moved to get the Democratic candidate to go to the runoff against his candidate, Key Ivay, only to destroy Trussendart and Elliot politically, but was unsuccessful.

The Liberal Democratic Party, which was left without a candidate for PM due to the death of its candidate Ronaldo Latores in a plane crash on September 16, apparently succeeded very well in its strategy of focusing on local elections for senator and having a considerable parliamentary bench. But now the party is in a dilemma, now that it is the opposition party with the most senators, will it still be the second force in a coalition with Trussendart or Arden to defeat the COP or will it nominate the next prime minister? Many speculate that former Prime Minister Christopher Clarence will be the name if the Liberal Democrat Party nominates the leader of an anti-COP coalition for the 2025-2026 term.

The Democratic Party weakened in this election. Jaylynn Arden believed she would be the strongest name in the opposition after the result of this election, but that did not happen, with her party losing seats and having its leadership on the left even more threatened by the Socialist Party. Well, at least she had a victory, it is unlikely that this name will be former Prime Minister Elizabeth Trussendart thanks to the performance of the Conservative Party in this election. But Trussendart will try...she will...

The Socialist Party was more concerned with avoiding a COP victory today than with winning. With this objective having been achieved, the party states that it will not be part of an anti-COP coalition government, but that it will support the candidates of the Democratic Party and the Liberal Democratic Party against the COP in the second round scenarios, regarding the Conservative Party, the party says "it is up to each member to do what he or she thinks is best".

Given the number of senators from each party, a coalition between the Liberal Democrats involving Trussendart and Arden may be necessary. Adding the number of senators that the opposition has now, they need to gain 5 more senators to have an absolute majority without needing the socialists to govern and, thus, remove the COP from power.

OOC: The COP's authoritarian escalation will not happen now because the second round is still to come. However, JTG and his son Elijah are spreading distrust of the COP regarding the race for the Delawor seat. JTG will travel to Ejorike next week to talk secretly with Maxim III and prepare the post-election in case it does not go in favor of the National Christian Government.
